Minot State University is the university of choice fornearly 3,500 students each year. The fourth-largest academ-ic institution in the state, Minot State offers a wide range ofstudy. TheU.S.NewsandWorldReport consistently namesthe university one of “America’s Best Colleges.”Founded in 1913, Minot State comprises the College of
Arts andSciences,CollegeofBusiness,CollegeofEducationand Health Sciences and the Graduate School. It is a com-prehensive public university and fully accredited by theNorth CentralAssociation of Colleges and Schools.Minot State University charges all students according to
a flat-rate tuition model. Consequently, tuition costs atMinot State University are among the lowest in the four-state area. Seventy percent to 75 percent of MSU studentsreceive financial assistance in the form of grants, loans, on-campus employment or scholarships. Room and boardrates are among themost affordableof any four-yearunder-graduate university inNorth Dakota.The university offers 64 undergraduate degree pro-
grams, seven master’s degree programs, one specialistdegree andmany pre-professional programs. Character Counts! is a local, grass rootseffort of concerned citizens in Minot andmany communities nationwide whichembrace the Six Pillars of Character as thebasis for understanding and evaluating allethical behavior. The overriding mission ofCharacter Counts! is to strengthen the char-acter of America’s youth. The Minot PublicSchool Board has endorsed and is support-ing this movement.
Junior Achievement is a program thatbrings business people into K-6 classroomsto lead the students through hands-on activ-
ities that show the relevance of education tosuccess in business and in life. You can be apart of this interactive learning experienceby volunteering to become a facilitator forJA. Classroom sessions involve about onehour per week for five weeks, and all train-ing and materials are provided. Minot welcomes our friends to the north atMinotAir Force Base.Located about 13 miles north of the city of
Minot,MinotAFB and the city share a close rela-tionship with those who make up TEAMMINOT, a phrase coined for the relationshipbetween the two communities.Minot has long been committed to Minot
AFB. Looking back to 1954, the city of Minot
sold the Air Force on becoming a site for a newbase. That following year, Minot businessmenand citizens donatedmoney to buy the first por-tions of the base and ground was broke on July12, 1955. This year is the 60th anniversary of theground breaking event.Minot AFB is the only dual wing nuclear-
capable base in theAir Force.The base’s host unit, the 5th Bomb Wing, is
