ACTION (INTENSITY)
Map of Intensity Explanation
To map out the intensity of Concrete Lawn, observations of the site were made throughout the day. The map aims to show the difference in intensity
at three different times of the day (9AM, 1PM, 5PM), showing which part of the park is most used by the crowd. The red dots are a representation of
the crowd. However, the red lines are the trajection of where crowds travel in the site (they make up most of the intensity of Concrete lawn). The red
intense line is the location that there are a lot of density of pedestrian, whereas the dotted line indicates that there is less traversing happening.
Comparison of intensities throughout the day
Although it is evident that 1PM is the busiest time of the day at Concrete lawn (due to it being lunch time and a period where people socialise the
most), the site at 9AM indicates there are more commuting happening during this time. The main travel route is in the middle of the lawn and it
mostly used to get across from the MSD to Union house (vice versa) or using the lawn as a shortcut to get to the other side of the road quicker. At
9AM and 5PM there tend to be a lot more people who are alone, whereas 1PM consist of larger groups of people. This shows that Concrete lawn’s main
use differ at different time of the day, at lunch time it is mainly a place for socialising and eating, but by evening people use it to get away from the
crowd to relax and also as a meeting point.
