In October Australian audiences will enjoy some of the finest classical music from home and
abroad including the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra who will present a concert celebrating
masterful performers of string instruments featuring Cuban artist Lixsania Fernandez on viola da
gamba and the Brandenburg's concertmaster Shaun Lee-Chen tackling the technical challenge
of Locatelli’s infamous Violin Concerto in D a.k.a. The Harmonic Labyrinth.
The West Australian Symphony Orchestra bring two of the greatest living French
instrumentalists, Gautier Capuçon and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, to Perth for two nights of
spectacular music. French Flair will feature a program of Debussy and Rachmaninov alongside
the world premiere of Richard Dubugnon’s Eros Athanatos conducted by Ludovic Morlot, who
will also be making his debut with WASO.
To mark their 70th birthday Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra presents Romeo Retold, a concert
featuring the musical interpretations of Romeo and Juliet, a work that has inspired artists for over
400 years, from Prokofiev’s majestic ballet to the jazz influenced West Side Story. Happy
Birthday TSO!
In Brisbane this month Queensland Theatre’s Artistic Director Sam Strong helms David
Williamson’s play revealing the difficult man behind the myth of Sir Isaac Newton, Nearer the
Gods, with a cast including Matthew Backer, William McInnes and Rhys Muldoon.
Sydney Dance Company will this month debut a new work by acclaimed Australian
choreographer Anthony Hamilton, Forever and Ever, in a double bill with Rafael Bonachela’s
2015 Helpmann award winning Frame of Mind.
Opera Australia is touring Madama Butterfly to Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, that will
be the company's first multi-city international tour. The Australian Ballet is touring their lavish
production Sleeping Beauty to Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai, West Australian Ballet is currently
performing three contemporary works at the Dance Stages Shanghai Dance Festival, Bangarra
Dance Theatre is also heading north, returning to India for a second time as part of the
Australian government’s festival program. The Australian Chamber Orchestra have been invited
by the Barbican to be International Associates at Milton Court in London in late October.
