Designing and Implementing Organisational Change Strategies

NDS Victoria has partnered with Service Quality Australia (SQA) to provide NDS Victoria Members with an opportunity to strengthen their change management capacity through the in-depth SQA program: Designing and Implementing Organisational Change Strategies.

This hands on program has been developed specifically for organisational leaders in the Victorian disability sector wanting to prepare for the NDIS, planning to make organisational changes and having responsibility for organisational change. The program will strengthen NDS members’ readiness for the full implementation of the NDIS and will support participants to successfully design and implement organisational change initiatives.

Why is Change Management Important?

“A change leader sees change as an opportunity. A change leader looks for change, knows how to find the right changes and knows how to make them effective both outside the organisation and inside it. “ Peter Drucker, Management Challenges for the 21st Century (1999)

Carefully designed and implemented change management strategies, using proven techniques, ensure organisations can seize the opportunities presented by new circumstances and move forward with confidence The capacity to work out what to change, how to change it and then create that change smoothly are essential to organisational survival and success in times of uncertainty.

Program Benefits At the end of this program participants will be equipped to:

Understand and use frameworks to design and implement organisational change initiatives

Design effective and realistic change interventions around identified organisational strategic directions – including resourcing, communications, project planning and making it happen

Analyse the impact of change initiatives as they are being implemented and adjust the organisational change strategy to achieve desired outcomes

Use up-to-date literature on organisational change as part of their own design and implementation strategy

The program is designed to build the capacity of each individual as an organisational change agent and for the participant group to learn from each other’s experience of implementing change under the expert guidance of the program consultant, Mary Burgess.

About the Program Consultant: Mary Burgess, Director, Service Quality Australia

Mary Burgess Dip OT, BA has designed and managed major cultural change, evaluation, quality improvement, and training projects in human services over the last 20 years. She has also implemented highly regarded professional development programs in organisational dynamics and change for leaders in human services for the last nine years, including the Networks for Quality program for NDS Victoria.

Mary developed this program utilising her expertise in designing organisational change interventions and assisting disability sector organisations along the journey when implementing organisational change:

“I’ve engaged Mary on two major organisational change projects and participated in the Networks for Quality Program she ran for NDS. She brings a wealth of experience to her change design and implementation work and creates rich learning environments that really engage staff and build skills. I am more than happy to endorse and recommend Mary to any organisation that is looking to engage a group of stakeholders to come together to tackle a problem, develop strategy or projects or undertake a major change initiative harnessing the power of the group.” Scott Sheppard, CEO, Able Australia

“Mary really gets that staff need to own change themselves. She is great at creating a space and environment….and an expectation…whereby people are not just encouraged but ultimately feel comfortable to embrace both the process and the excitement of delivering a change in agency culture.” Warwick Cavanagh, CEO,MOIRA Disability and Youth Services

Who should attend? This program offering is in line with NDS’s strategic direction to ‘equip members for the new world’, specifically ‘to assist members with skills and strategies to achieve sustainability’. Consider participating if you want to make changes to your organisation in readiness for the implementation of DisabilityCare Australia – even if you are not sure what or how you will change at this stage. You may wish to sign up for example if you are:

Staff member/s with the authority and decision-making power to design and implement organisational change in your agency.
