Effort and Reward

2 Good examples 2 Bad examples

Page 3: Design Portfolio

Low Effort, High Reward.

Paragraph is very short and contains an idea that is linked to the picture.

The picture makes the reader think about the potential negative effects of climate change

Combination of colors is very light and is easy to read

Page 4: Design Portfolio

Low Effort High Reward

Paragraphs are very short on and very descriptive

The black background grabs the attention of the viewer giving it a touch of simplicity

Having one graphic and four words create a low a low effort and high reward image

Page 5: Design Portfolio

High Effort Low Reward

Even though the design looks simple, it is hard to tell what a toilet paper is doing folded sideways, in my opinion. It requires some thought, and two of my friends did not get the idea of the ad.

Letters seem to tiny to diffuse the idea of the message.

Even though it may seem clear that every inkjet paper belongs to a bathroom, it is hard to understand why the toilet paper is folded.

Page 6: Design Portfolio

High Effort, Low RewardI see that the script is extremely extensive. The Title is kind of eye catchy

Paragraphs are too long. It is hard to tell what the ad is about.

The picture is kind of funny and grabs the attention

Page 7: Design Portfolio

Theme

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 8: Design Portfolio

Good Design The colors of the design are simple and beautiful: light blue and yellow. Very effective for this type of creation

The white on the background helps to emphasize “sales” and the house”

Having several pictures of the house makes very clear what the purpose of the site is.

Page 9: Design Portfolio

Good DesignBlue, green and white are a great combination of colors.

Combination of black and white on the pictures, and having the featured houses in color help grab the attention of the viewer.

The theme is well made because the pictures are directly related to the purpose of the site.

Page 10: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

The background seems very fussy and the date of the show does not combine with the background

It is hard to read the title. The white of the letters fades with the background.

The combination of red/orange with blue does not create a good match of colors.

Page 11: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

The pig does not have any connection with the rest of the design. The background

is not a consistent color. I don’t think it matches with the pink pig and the blue.

The combination of colors is so bad that is almost impossible to read some parts of the text.

Picture Words And Concrete Verbs

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 13: Design Portfolio

Good Design

Low effort and high reward. Only four words for the whole idea of the design.

The picture is very descriptive. It shows a can of Pepsi smiling, making the viewer that they will smile as well if they avoid sugar.

The background is very simple and centers all the information to the picture.

Page 14: Design Portfolio

Good DesignThe design shows two basic words in onomatopoeia. This words immediately grab the attention of the reader.

The subtitle and the title clearly express what the book is about in very few words.

Two pictures create a perfect connection with the words meow and ruff of the title

Page 15: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

Even though this design is very clever, I don’t think it makes a good job making the viewer want to buy this drink.

The letters are too small and it is hard for me to understand why there is so many words for this drink.

Even though the word gingervating may be catchy, I still believe that is not a good design.

Page 16: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

I don’t think the picture makes a good connection with the intent of the message. In fact, I don’t even understand what this design is about.

I don’t see why they did not get rid of this object. There are several tools that are able to get rid of it. Maybe is related to the intent of the design?

I don’t see why the bottom part shows some type of rocky background.

Page 17: Design Portfolio

Audience(Targeting an identifiable

audience) 2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 18: Design Portfolio

Audience Good DesignThe cigarette makes very clear what the main audience is intended to attract.

Probably adding a question mark would have helped to grab more the attention of the viewer.

The red letters help to emphasize the main goal of the message.

Page 19: Design Portfolio

Good Design AudienceThe picture is very strong and makes the viewer think about the negative consequences of smoking

The main intent of the design is clearly stated. The words clearly express what this audience is directed to.

A few words describe a personal story of a smoker, making smokers aware of the possible side effects.

Page 20: Design Portfolio

Audience Bad DesignThe audience that is expected to be impacted by this add is not limited to blonde young women. I don’t think that the design made a good job addressing who they wanted to inform.

The colors of the design make the letters very easy to read. I think it is a good design overall, but the audience is not very clear. I think that children and people over 50 years old are not going to be impacted by this ad. Maybe they only wanted to inform blonde and young women?

The letters are too small. They are very hard to read.

Visual Context

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 23: Design Portfolio

Visual Context Good Design

The tea pot creates a perfect visual design for a tea company

The design is simple, yet very well made.

The location of the place is also displayed attracting new potential clients.

Page 24: Design Portfolio

Visual Context Good DesignThe context is perfect for showing the world an Irish company.

Showing old buildings from Ireland create a wonderful visual context.

Old Irish clothing give the design a wonderful touch.

Showing blue letters of the Irish Airlines clearly show the purpose of the design.

Page 25: Design Portfolio

Visual Context Bad Design

Even though the design is related to graphic design, I don’t think that showing a paintbrush makes it very clear for the viewer.

Having letters sideways make the design hard to read.

This design does not even show with clarity what it is for.

Page 26: Design Portfolio

Visual Context Bad Design

Page 27: Design Portfolio

Embellishment, Enhancement, Embodiment

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 28: Design Portfolio

Good Design EmbellishmentDifferent textures on the design show how embellishment techniques are used in this context.

Even though there is white colors on the background, it is still easy to read the subtitles.

The colors on the background make a good combination.

Page 29: Design Portfolio

Good Design Embellishment

This is a very nice design that is created with different tones of pink

There are different flowers on the design creating a line of symmetry and embellishment.

The design shows both simplicity and creativity

Page 30: Design Portfolio

Bad Design Enhancement

The design does not create a very good job at enhancing each aspect of the consequences of using steroids.

Using blue letters for the title and black background for both the title and subtitles does not help enhance the ideas of the design.

The Second subtitle is so small that is hard to tell what is the purpose of the design

Page 31: Design Portfolio

Bad Design EnhancementThe message is not very

clear. It can be hard to understand for some people.

The size of the letters is to small making even harder to understand the idea.

The combination of colors is good, but the enhancement of the message is very poor.

Page 32: Design Portfolio

Proximity

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 33: Design Portfolio

Good Design ProximityThe categories of the design are well group together.

This is also a good design because the contrast grabs the attention of the reader.

Even though is hard to read white letters on a black background, the design seems pretty good.

Page 34: Design Portfolio

Good Design ProximityThe information of the magazine is well grouped on the right side of the cover.

The white letters located on the dark side of the magazine make it it easy to read.

Blue and gray give a good style to the astronomy magazine.

Page 35: Design Portfolio

Bad Design ProximityAll the information on the design does not have any logical sequence. There is no proximity on the design.

Page 36: Design Portfolio

Bad Design ProximityEven though information is group into similar categories, the colors don’t really make the information easy to read. For example, this monitor has a green background and all other monitors have blue background.

The colors of the background don’t seem to have any harmony

Contact information or other categories don’t seem to be placed in a logical sequence

Page 37: Design Portfolio

Alignment

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 38: Design Portfolio

Good Design The information is well aligned, centered and easy to read.

The white background facilitates to read the whole message.

Page 39: Design Portfolio

Good Design All the pictures are well aligned with each other.

Even though the colors don’t seem to have a logical sequence, because of the alignment the information is easy to read.

Even though many pictures have different colors and contrast with no previous planning, the design still looks good because of the alignment.

Page 40: Design Portfolio

Bad DesignI don’t think the alignment of the letters

“polar bear” match with the rest of the picture. It does match a little with the paw of the bear but not with rest of the picture.

White letters on a white background don’t make a good combination for reading purposes.

Letters are too small, and it is hard to tell what the message is for. This may be a wrong assumption because I don’t know the original size for the design but that is my impression

Page 41: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

From my perspective, this is a bad alignment. The intent of the creator was to find harmony in random spots, but I don feel like the whole design looks messy.

I am not sure if they intended to create a design that had the objects outside of the frame, but it does not look professional

I don’t think that the green combines with the pink background

Page 42: Design Portfolio

Repetition

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 43: Design Portfolio

Repetition Good Design

This is a good and simple design. It relies on repetition of real objects:

Having two similar products on the right side and two similar products on the left side creates a nice background based on repetition.

Having cans rotating on different directions create a sense of a “natural picture”

Page 44: Design Portfolio

Good Design

The repetition is based on real objects. I think this is a really good design.

This is a background that gives a touch of simplicity.

Page 45: Design Portfolio

Bad Design Repetition

The flowers are a great idea, but the letters don’t do a great job describing what this is for.

The color of the letters may be good, but the design looks incomplete

Page 46: Design Portfolio

Bad Design RepetitionThey tried creating a background full of squares in order to create repetition, but it does not look very professional because the order of colors is not very consistent nor organized

This is a very wonderful design that give the impression that was handmade, however, the letters don’t make a good repetition.

Page 47: Design Portfolio

Contrast

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 48: Design Portfolio

Good Design

This is a great design that is simple and attractive. Three colors

make a great design, pink, white and black.

Different shades of pink create a wonderful and simple design.

Page 49: Design Portfolio

Good DesignWonderful design that emphasize the hair style.

The color box emphasizes what the purpose of the design is.

Page 50: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

This is a high effort and low reward. It is really hard to understand the meaning of the design.

This may be a good piece of art, but it is not a very good tool of communication.

Page 51: Design Portfolio

Bad DesignThe message is not related to the background. The message reads: Capitalism is selfishness.

Page 52: Design Portfolio

Emphasis

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 53: Design Portfolio

Good DesignThe color on the graphics give emphasis to the 7up drinks.

Even though the letters are very small the design is still very good. I have notice that several old designs that have have that trend.

Page 54: Design Portfolio

Good Design.Having the drink in color creates emphasis in the product.

This is a wonderful design based on the emphasis of the picture.

Page 55: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

QuickTime™ and aTIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor

are needed to see this picture.

The white letters are not emphasized with the background. It is hard to tell what the main purpose of the design is.

Page 56: Design Portfolio

Bad Design

QuickTime™ and aTIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor

are needed to see this picture.

The letters are not emphasized in a wise manner. The background makes the letters fade.

The date and time of the event are emphasized with the color. Unfortunately, it does not match the rest of the design.

Page 57: Design Portfolio

Good design Color The simple red on the background and the color of the cans emphasize the appearance of the design.

Page 58: Design Portfolio

Good Design ColorHaving black, blue and white as main colors help the enhance the red of the Coca-Cola logo. The goggles of the bear match the Coca-Cola Design.

Page 59: Design Portfolio

Bad Design Color

tino herrera:I believe that the combination of colors is just random. There is no planning when the design was made.

There is no clear combination of colors. Many combinations don’t even match.

Page 60: Design Portfolio

Bad Design ColorThe combination of colors is terrible. Many viewers won’t even be able to read many of the words.

The words are blurry. It is hard to read them.

Page 61: Design Portfolio

Style

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs.

Page 62: Design Portfolio

Type and Style

2 Good Designs 2 Bad Designs

Page 63: Design Portfolio

Good DesignThe old style of the design

and the contrast show a wonderful combination of colors and letters.

The design using a sepia color emphasizes the monitor.

Page 64: Design Portfolio

Good DesignThe modern font

combined with the color create a nice, and modern style of the design.

The gray background help to enhance both designs, as well as the white titles.

Page 65: Design Portfolio

Bad DesignsThe script style of the letters

don’t match with the other letter styles. There are too many kinds of letters. Maybe having only two style of letters would help?

I know that I only have to look at the style of the ads, but I wonder if this information is real?

Page 66: Design Portfolio

Bad DesignIt is hard to read

Tabitha letters on this design. It is very decorative, but it is hard to read all the letters of the message.

I don’t think that the motorcycle matches the rest of the picture
