Course Title : Design of Reinforced Concrete Elements

Course Description: The course is to introduce the students to the concept of reinforcedconcrete design. It exposes the students to the different design theories used in the designof reinforced concrete structures, particularly the limit state design theory. The studentsare further exposed to the design of basic structural elements using the limit state methodof design.

Objectives: 1. Understand the concept of reinforced concrete design2. Appreciate the methods employed in the design of reinforced concrete elements,

    particularly the limit state design

    3. Be able to design a concrete section for moment, shear, torsion and deflection asrequired4. Be able to apply the design of a concrete section to design the following elements

    a. Slabsb. Beamsc. Columnsd. Pad foundationse. Staircasef. Retaining walls
