SENTIENT is a New York City based furniture design and

fabrication company with more than 25,000 square feet of

workshop facilities in Brooklyn. We have extensive experience

manufacturing residential, commercial and hospitality

furnishings including case goods and accent items. We have

supplied furniture to the New York City area for decades and

also foreign markets including Toronto, London and Qatar.

At Sentient we conceive, design, develop and

fabricate all of our own ideas and products. Our

ideas and designs have two main influences.

Firstly the wide choice and availability of

sustainable hardwoods from forests of the

North East and Midwest of the United States

and secondly the decades of experience we

have from making bespoke furniture for the

New York City marketplace. Whether its a three

legged stool for a coffee shop or case goods

installations for a 500 room hotel our designers

and fabricators have done it all.

Long Wool Sofa

The SENTIENT Furniture Long Wool sofa is so much more than a sofa its a superb 360° design. An

original design using long wool Icelandic sheepskin together with reclaimed American oak boards. If

they could speak what stories would these boards tell? The icelandic sheepskin wool is chaotic, wild,

soft and long measuring 6” - 8”. The hair falls all directions resulting in a array of warm beige, brown

and golden colors. Dimensions as shown 96” x 42” x 40”.

Long Wool Sofa, Furniture As Art

The locust wood log provided our designers

inspiration for a unique chair using a vertical

locust slab as both leg and backrest. We added

some design to the composition so set against

nature’s log we constructed a curved seat with

tapered legs. The result is a chair that will work

for both formal and contemporary settings. It

may also provoke some conversation which at

SENTIENT we see as an important ingredient of

our work.

New Old Dresser

A timeless design statement using walnut, walnut veneer and reclaimed oak boards

The SENTIENT New Old Dresser would look as great in a traditional Park Avenue apartment

as it would in the lobby of a chic downtown boutique hotel. It uses walnut veneer running

perpendicular to solid beveled edges. To add richness and contrast we installed push touch

mechanisms behind reclaimed oak boards used for the drawer faces.

Caribou Lounge

An original design statement from SENTIENT combining luxurious fur with American black walnut.

The Caribou lounge chair uses Coyote fur which is soft and deep and has wide variation of colors

and tones. The structure floats in a solid American black walnut frame which contrasts assuredly with

the irregular shapes and variations of the fur. It is an iconic piece of furniture for use any any setting.

Nersi Sofa

An assured sofa with soft curves upholstered from top to bottom

This a sophisticated piece of upholstered furniture. It is obviously a beautiful sofa that is very

easy to look at and enjoy. Under that pallet is a complicated structure requiring experience and

master craftsmanship. The carpentry and upholstery used on the NERSI sofa demonstrates further

experience and disciplines available at SENTIENT. The Nersi sofa is also made as an armchair and

also custom sizes.

Luxor Credenza

A credenza that uses live edge slabs attached onto the outside of the carcass sides

We like to mix different colors and materials.

Sometimes it works and works really well. This

is one of those moments. A high gloss black

credenza with leather pulls. The angled sides

are unusual in themselves but to add to that

idea we decided to attach live edge slabs to

outside of the carcass. The final composition is

a delicate floating combination of manmade

laminates and timeless live edge slabs in a

most unusual combination.

Live Edge

SENTIENT’s live edge table and other designs

are made using sustainably sourced American

black walnut, spalted maple, cherry, oak and

other hardwoods. The protective coating is

typically multiple applications of a natural

clear finish. This brings out and accentuates

the many colors and grain patterns and

effects particularly noticeable in the black

walnut species.

We always keep a supply of slabs and boards.

Some will be air drying for up to 18 months

or ready to go into the kiln for up to 3 months

for the final drying. When dry the slabs and

boards are planed and then brought into

the workshop to be transformed into tables

measuring 5 feet up to 14 feet or headboards

for beds measuring up to 12 feet in width.

Our live edge collections also include chairs,

coffee tables, benches, nightstands and

other limited concepts. We offer a variety of

materials for table legs including fabricated

metal, brass and conceptual leg systems.

Live Edge & SlabHardwood

At SENTIENT we strive to

create original and

creative furniture

designs. At the same

time we recognize that

nature has provided us

with sumptuous solid

American black walnut

and other hardwood. It is

a furniture makers friend

as so much of the design

is in the wood itself. With

subtle, rich and warm

colors the grain patterns

of each slab could

almost be a work of art.

Shimna Live Edge Slab Bed

A live edge bed that uses a single slab for both the headboard and the footboard

American black walnut slabs are precious and come in

many shapes and sizes. We try our best to use all parts

of each slab. For the SENTIENT Live Edge Slab Bed we

decided the to cut out a section that would otherwise

be hidden behind the mattress and pillows. Not to

waste anything and to make the composition a whole

we the turned the cut out upside down and used it

for the footboard. A subtle design idea bringing a little

something to a beautiful walnut slab.

The hospitality and design industry have taken notice our work is found in many hotels, restaurants and commercial settings

We can fabricate to the designers drawings or

assist with the design to create a desired style and

aesthetic. Our workshops have been used to fabricate

furniture and installations for many luxury brands

including Movado, British Airways, Cartier, Donna Karan, Viacom, Marriott, Hyatt and also signature

design firms such as Ian Schrager, Rockwell and
