The PhotoMagiXX Formating Software is used to place your photos and text into the correct positions to print on the various Xerox® Image Solutions Paper.*

The PhotoMagiXX Formating Software takes you through the creation of a project – step-by-step and then printed on the appropriate Xerox® Image Solutions Paper. A completed project can be saved to be used again, or it can be changed and saved with a different name. This is the suggested method to use if you have several projects with similar images or text as you can selectively replace any photo or text.

The process to create a project is basically the same for all of the Xerox® Image Solutions Paper.

1. Select the product (Xerox® Image Solutions Paper) that you want to use

•Xerox®FunFlip®

•Xerox®AccordionPix®

•Xerox®SportsPix®

2. Select the theme / template that fits your project

3. Add your photo and text

4. Print as many copies as you want

5. Save the project for later use

Installing PhotoMagiXXThe family of PhotoMagiXX Paper Formats requires images and text to be placed in specific positions and orientations. The PhotoMagiXX Formatting Software does this automatically.

Each format has one or more templates that you may choose and the software will take you through the creation of a project step-by-step. All the templates work in a similar fashion so once you have done one, the others will all follow the same process.

System requirementsPhotoMagiXX software is compatible with Windows operating systems 2000, XP, Vista and Macintosh Mac OS X.

For best results set your screen resolution to at least 1024x768.

Install the applicationWin/PC

Download the software from: http://www.photomagix.net/combined/xerox.html. Select the download link for Windows. A message box will appear to save or run the file. Select Run and follow the prompts to complete the installation. NOTE: You will need administrator rights to install the sotware.

MacintoshDownload the software from: http://www.photomagix.net/combined/xerox.html. Select the download link for MAC. NOTE: To install on OS X, you must have administrator rights and StuffIt Expaner. StuffIt Expander can also be installed form the support page. On your desktop double click the PhotoMagiXX.mpkg and follow the instructions to install. Once the installation is complete browse in your application folder and locate the PhotoMagiXX folder. Double click on the PhotoMagiXX.bin self extracting file to automatically extract PhotoMagiXX in this folder.

Note: The .bin file extension should be associated with the Stuffit Expander. If Stuffit is not installed or the association is not set you will receive the message “The document setup.bin could not be opened because the application that created it could not be found”. In this case make sure that Stuffit Expander is installed on the system and the .bin file extension is associated with it.

Using PhotoMagiXXRun the PhotoMagiXX application

From the Start menu select Programs then PhotoMagiXX. The PhotoMagiXX application will begin.

Setting your PreferencesThe preferences setup only takes a few minutes and retains the information every time you open PhotoMagiXX. To access the Preferences menu: Select File, Options. This will open the Preferences menu.

PhotoMagiXX Work FlowEach file you create is referred to as a Project. When the PhotoMagiXX Welcome Dialog box appears click the Start a New Project button. This will display a menu of products. i.e. FunFlip®, AccordionPix® and SportsPix®. Use your mouse or arrow keys to highlight the product you want to use for this project and click Next.

Your next choice is to select a template. A selection of templates will be displayed, each being a variation for the product that you have chosen. The primary difference between templates are the number and placement of photos and text boxes for the product. Use your mouse or arrow keys to highlight the template you want and click “Next”

Some products, like the SportsPix®, have themes. If themes exist for the product you selected, your next step will be to select the theme that you want. The FunFlip® has a background color/pattern that you can change at any time (See Page 8).

The software will then display the first view for the product you have chosen. On the left is a preview for that view and on the right is the edit window. (See Fig. 1) The software will take you through the entire form view-by-view until you have completed the project.

Xerox® FunFlip® TemplatesThe FunFlip® is an interactive photo show. Once completed and assembled the FunFlip® folds to reveal four different views and repeats endlessly. Few people can put it down once they start folding it back.

We suggest a bit of preplanning before you start creating your FunFlip.® The FunFlip® shows four successive views. We refer to these as View 1, View 2, View 3, and View 4. Each view is comprised of segments, each segment being defined by the fold-scores on the FunFlip®.

You can place images and text in specific segments. The templates illustrated on the following page shows the segments and where images and text will be placed.

One characteristic that you want to consider is the text that appears in the left and right segments on View 2 will also be visible in View 3. Once you have made one FunFlip®, you will see clearly how each view works.

Text TipsWhen you enter text in a text box, the text will have the default attributes. You can change the text attributes

Font - Depending on the setting in Preferences (refer to page 2, Installation and setup) you will either see a list of all the fonts installed on your system, or a short list of common fonts. You may choose any of the fonts shown.

Size - Changes the size of the selected font

Color - Opens a list of available colors for the text

Horizontal Alignment - Left, Center, Right

Vertical Alignment - Top, Center, Bottom

Bold - Toggles Off / On

Italic - Toggles Off / On

DropShadow - Toggles Off / On

Outline - Toggles Off / OnEach text box is treated as a unit and any changes that you apply to the text attributes will apply to the entire text box. Some templates have two text boxes on top of the photo. This will allow you to have two different sets of text attributes. For example, one text box could have a larger font. The text in each box could be a different color, etc.

You can move the text within the text box by changing the horizontal or vertical alignment attributes. You may also include extra line spaces either at the beginning or in the middle of your text to place the text where you want.

PhotoMagiXX Tips

PrintingMost of the Xerox® Image Solutions Paper formats are 8.5” x 11”. The AccordionPix® is 8.5” x 14” so set your printer to legal size paper for AccordionPix®.

Regardless of how the preview image appears on your monitor, ALWAYS set your printer to print PORTRAIT. PhotoMagiXX will format the page accordingly.

Additional information for using the Xerox® Image Solutions Papers with Xerox® printers is packaged with the media.

Paper orientationSuggestion: Make a mark on the leading edge of a sheet of plain paper and print your first finished project to verify the correct paper orientation for your printer.

Printer calibration(This is an optional step and is only required if your printer does not print the images in exactly the correct location on the Xerox® Image Solutions Paper.)

Some printers require a fine adjustment to locate the printed data precisely on the paper. Because of the pre-cut forms on your Xerox® Image Solutions Paper it is important that the calibration be as accurate as possible. The PhotoMagiXX Software can compensate for small irregularities in your printer’s calibration using the Printer Calibration Wizard. To check your printer’s calibration and correct it if necessary choose File-Printer Calibration from the PhotoMagiXX main menu. Load plain paper in your printer and follow the instructions in the step-by-step wizard. In most instances a printer will only need to be calibrated once.

Saving Your ProjectThe saved projects can be opened and printed again or they can be modified and saved as a different project if you save as a different file name. An image is displayed on the file menu to help you recognize the project. At this time, the files are not identified as to which Xerox® Image Solutions Paper format or template was used so it may be of help to include an abbreviation in the file name. For example a prefix of FF will identify FunFlip® projects.
