TASK:

CONCEPT:

INSPIRATION: TWINS

THE DANCERS LIGHT EFFECTS THE STRUCTURE

Design and build a light installation based on the concept of empathy. Fully assemble the structure, design the light effects throughout the performance, chose the song and create a full story for the dancers.

The name of this project is “TWINS” - which is correlated with the theme of empathy. The twins are perfect explanation of what is empathy. The mutual understanding of their feelings is fascinating and in our project the twins are the two dancers. The visitors will be able to follow the performance from an opening in the installation which will be be covered with abstract black stripes - representing the mutual understanding and the privacy of the twins i.e. no one can understand nor enter in their mutual empathy.

BLACK FABRIC

WHITE ELASTIC & NON ELASTIC STRINGS

The idea behind the light was to create a gradient from black and white effect (in the beginning) till very vivid and colorful effect (when the dance performance reaches it’s peak). The light follows every beat of the song and the end part of the performance results with very bright and vivid light effect.

The idea for the dancers is to mirror their movements (since the idea is to interpretate twins). The dancers are attached with strings to the walls and as the song developes, they at the end rip off their attached strings and dance non symmetrically.

PROJECT TYPE: CONCEPT FOR INTERIOR RE-DESIGN AND RE-BRANDING OF A BOOKSTORE

YEAR: 2012

NAME OF THE PROJECT:LA FELTRINELLI - CITY

WHERE: CORSO BUENOS AIRES, MILANO

AREA: TWO FLOORS/GROUND FLOOR - 188 M2FIRST FLOOR - 585 M2

PROJECT 2

Page 14: Design & branding portfolio by Daniel Nikolovski

The new creative concept is a concept based on improving the attraction of the bookstores and the frequency of their visit in general. I wanted to create dynamic space which will be in the same time a place where people meet, interact with each other, read a book, drink a cup of coffee, watch a movie, listen to some music, see an artwork … Create a whole “city” inside the bookstore.

Each room from the both floors are representing a part of the city. The cafe bar is inspired from the parks, the stairs are inspired from the stairs in the Underground, there is also an exhibition space- referring to the museums in a city and the bookshelves are following the dynamic skyline of a city.

CONCEPT:

INSPIRATION: THE CITY

FORMAL MOODBOARD SENSORIAL MOODBOARD FUNCTIONAL MOODBOARD

THE CITY SKYLINE THE CITY STREETS

DYNAMIC CITY

ART GALLERY

CINEMA

COFFEE NEWSSTANDTHE DYNAMIC LINES OF THE METRO MAP

FOR THE FORMAL LANGUAGE IN THIS PROJECT I WAS INSPIRED FROM TWO IMPORTANT FACTORS WHICH A CITY HAS: THE CITY SKYLINE AND

THE DYNAMIC METRO MAP. THE BROKEN IRREGULAR LINES ARE THE MAIN INSPIRATION FOR THE BOOKSHELVES AND THE SIGNAGE IN THE PROJECT.

FOR THE SENSORIAL ASPECT (THE FEELING IN THE SPACE), I WAS INSPIRED FROM THE CITY STREETS (WHICH CAN BE SEEN ON THE FLOORING IN THE BOOKSTORE) AND FROM THE BIG CITY BILLBOARDS AND SIGNS DURING NIGHT TIME (WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN THE SIGNAGE LINES ALL OVER THE

BOOKSTORE).ALSO, IN ORDER TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOOKS, THE

REST OF THE AMBIANCE REMAINS WHITE AND VERY NEUTRAL.

THE FUNCTIONAL CONCEPT FOR THIS PROJECT WAS INSPIRED FROM THE MAIN CULTURAL FUNCTIONS ONE CITY HAS. THE IDEA WAS TO RECREATE

THE WHOLE CITY INTO A SINGLE BOOKSTORE. SINCE THE CITY IS VERY DYNAMIC, INTERESTING, FULL OF LIFE, I THOUGHT

IF I IMPORT THESE ASPECTS INTO A BOOKSTORE, IT WILL IMPROVE THE ATTRACTION OF THE BOOKSTORE.

SO, THE NEW BOOKSTORE HAS VERY DYNAMIC CHARACTER, IT’S A MEETING PLACE, PLACE WHERE YOU CAN READ A BOOK, WATCH A MOVIE,

DRINK A COFFEE AND READ YOUR NEWSPAPER...

RENDER DESCRIPTION:

In this view you can see the dynamic shape of the bookshelves, which are actually inspired from a city’s skyline. The shelves all over the bookstore are very multi functional. Besides the function of being normal “bookshelves”, they are in the same time a chair to sit on, a touch screen table and a passage door to another section - all connected together creating one single bookshelve.

The main idea of this project is to recreate a beach on a rooftop, with an extreme character.

The main activity is surfing, due to the increasement of interest towards this sport. The surfing community rapidly grows and the surf economics is expected to profit 13 billion $ in 2017, which is more than double comparing with

nowadays.

Attract surfers, adrenaline lovers, people who like spend-ing time on the beach, people who need a place to meet with friends, young, people who want friendly prices.

DETAIL

I started from the question - where can we find memories? We can find memories in places, in people, in the toys from our child-hood, in the wine...

That’s how the idea was born for this wine-decanter. This is a storage for already opened wine, in order to keep the same fresh flavour and taste as it was, when it was opened. It is made out of maple wood, with function to write the date on this decanter, every time a memory is born thanks to the wine. As well the inner part is made out of chrome e steel insulator keeps the temperature of the wine.

TASK

IDEA

Design a small object for domestic spaces. This object should be of significant meaning and able to cause memories.
