Ambiguity through nine design projectsProduct design: Giovanni Tomasini - MachinaImpresa SPRUZZ (Enema - ketchup and mustard combo)Materials: PVC, PE, PMMASize: 30 cm x 19 cm Design is often the result of iconography, formal stereotypes and traditional materials. Sometimes objects insistently follow conventional forms, regardless of how impractical they may be. With Spruzz , the most functional shape and the most suitable materials are combined with the amused perception of the viewer and user. GIÒ-COSO (Play-thing - multifunctional object) Giò-coso is a table, a trunk, a cabinet...but also a gigantic multifunctional platform to play noughts and crosses. This is not just a stiff piece of furniture, but rather a detachable and ever-changing item that demands the interaction of its user. SHOOT ME (beach towel)Material: micro fibreSize: 100 x 150 cm A provoking item: a shooting target. This inevitably violent image, whose faith is generally to be destroyed, becomes something profoundly different when re-presented as an every-day object: a beach towel. Protecting from sand and absorbing water, its destiny is now to be washed and to be laid down. Shoot me however, does not lose its semiotic relevance by transforming back into a shooting range when hanged to dry and by turning those wrapped in its insides into targets. Mino (garden ornament)Materials: organic compostSize: 40 cm The garden dwarf tradition is older than what is commonly believed. Originating in XVII century Germany, garden dwarfs were exported by an English nobleman to decorate his garden, and they have now become the globally widespread kitsch ornaments that we all know. Despite its jazzy colours, the modern dwarf is a melancholic figure, condemned to a purely decorative function within a domesticated and artificial environment. Mino on the other hand lives in a garden full of life, destined to survive for one season only to then die with pride by feeding the surrounding vegetation. E-MOTION (furniture - MachinaImpresa with Artigiana Legno)Materials: MDF, pine wood, tempered glassSize: 172 cm x 80 cm The “scanimate” technique is an analog animation system, developed between the end of 60s and the beginning of the 80s. The cabinet e-motion is the provoking answer to the digital era and 3D animation. By sliding one of the doors, the cabinet’s enigmatic juxtaposing images create an elaborate animation in real-time without the use of any electricity or LED display. BLOOM (radiator - MachinaImpresa with HOTECH)Materials: aluminiumSize: 60 x 180 cm Inspired by nature’s blooming and blossoming purest elements, and by Lucio Fontana’s volume reinterpreting cut-offs, Bloom contradicts and overwhelms the two-dimensional world. Developed as an explicit reminder of the universe’s organised chaos, it finds its inspiration in nature’s primordial crystalline forms.

MÜS (Oil, vinegar, salt and pepper - condiment combo)Materials: glazed ceramicSize: salt and pepper - diameter 42 mm x 90 mm oil and vinegar - diameter 64 mm x 160 mm They would make anyone think of art pieces to be displayed and commented. However, they are nothing but tangible and usable design objects, inspired by the ideal forms of classical sculpture. The strong cultural background and influence embedded within these objects do not weigh down their aesthetics, which remain simple and pure in a careful balance between art and design. Baldac (bracelet, brooch and pendant)Materials: oxidised brassTechnology: chemical cut This item is inspired by the Platonic polyhedra that regulate the mathematical laws of proportion and symmetry. At a first glance this geometrical solid hides its true functions. However, its twelve pentagonal sides are pendants and brooches, whereas the main structure is a bracelet. Mappa (Map - souvenir pendant) A wearable Berlin. This item represents the evolution of souvenirs according to aesthetically sustainable norms, and should be worn by those born in the city to reaffirm their origins and sense of belonging, or by those who share a certain affinity with the city and its values.
