1 Export to pdf

In connection with export to PDF, some customers have wished for more functionalities. Below you

can see the extra functions that have been made for this version.

1.1 Export of selected pages

Now, it is possible to

export selected

pages to PDF.

Last used page can

also be active in PDF

export.

1.2 Hyperlink settings

You can select

whether you want the

hyperlink to go to the

full page or to the

selected symbol.

1.3 Pop-up information

Beware, that symbol and line popup information only works on Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you use

another PDF-reader, they don’t work.

1.4 Save pdf settings

If you make different kinds of pdf exports – eg B/H or color, to full page or to zoom – you can save

the settings.

This makes it very easy to retrieve the settings and ensure that all selections are correct.

The settings do not affect the page selection.

1.5 Export to DWG/DXF

Last used page is also selectable here.

2 Follow-up on Reference Designations (RDS)

We changed the way the program works with reference designations quite much from ver 17 to ver

18.

In connection with that, a few functions didn’t make it to ver18 and another few functions have been

changed since ver 18.

2.1 Page data

Page data will now

show the section with

reference designations

also when there are no

designations in the

project.

In earlier versions, the

section would only be

visible, when the

project contained ref.

designations.

2.2 Component data

The Component Data

dialog will always

show the Ref.design.

tab.

The drop-down lists

only show the used

designations – as

earlier.

In earlier versions, the

section would only be

visible, when the

project contained ref.

designations.

The tab is only visible

in Wire numbers and

signals, if they have

been set to have

ref.designations in

RDS settings.

Description of new functions

Page 8

Automation 19

Ref.designations are always visible when you

press the Name button.

The drop-down lists here contain all created

designations – as earlier.

2.3 Reference frame

Insert reference frame is also available in all projects now.

2.4 Import of ref. designations

2.4.1 Import only one aspect at a time

You can import all aspects’ designations at once by when you click the Import button. When you do

this, it is very important that all import settings are correct, among them which prefixes and dividers

that you use. The prefix will decide which aspect the designation belongs to.

From ver 19, you can

import one aspect at

a time when you

right-click in one

aspect’s section. In

this way, you don’t

have to consider

prefixes when you

import. You only

have to remember,

that without prefixes

it can be a bit hard to

see which part

belongs to which

aspect, especially

when you import or

export something

which contains ref.

designations.

Page 10

Automation 19

2.4.2 Support of other formats – KKS

On the import tab, you

can select to import

KKS-codes which will

’behave’ hierarchically.

KKS-codes (Kraftwerk

Kennzeich System) is a

very popular naming

convention within the

power plant (Kraftwerk)

industry.

When you use the KKS-

codes in the project,

you should go to the

format settings to have

them show correctly –

without divider – in the

project.

2.5 Move a designation and its sub-levels

In version 18 it was

only possible to move a

sublevel to another

level, when it was

unused.

From version 19, you

can also move used

sublevels, and

components within the

moved sublevels will

automatically be

renamed in the project.

A small trick:

If you want to move /

restructure many

sublevels, it is a good

idea to make temporary

designations, which will

be renamed later or

moved in one

operation: E.g. you can

move/rename all

components from =A1,

=A2 and =A3 by moving them all to a new =B1 designation. This designation can then be renamed

later.

2.6 How to use ref. designations in subdrawings

Ref.designations in subdrawings will mostly be inherited from the page it is placed on. As always.

The subdrawing can contain ref.frames that mark the parts that belongs to another designation.

In earlier versions you should write the ref.designation in the frame’s name data field, and you have

to write it as one combined designation, where it is hard to replace – or reuse – individual aspects.

From this version it is possible to select variables for each aspect, and they can be controlled

individually.

In former versions, pages’ ref. designations have been located in the page’s Article data, again in

the Name data field as one combined designation.

From this version, you can have one variable for each aspect.

If you have existing subdrawings and page templates with ref. designation, you can still use those.

But be aware, that the data field contains (up to) three aspects.

3 Transfer text settings between projects

It has always been possible to transfer individual text settings to the project. One at a time.

You make the setting directly in the project or retrieve it from the standard settings and transfer it to

the project. One at a time.

3.1 Transfer text settings from one project to another one

You can find a new All radio button in the Settings|Text/symbol standards.

The settings in this group makes it possible to transfer all text settings from one project to another

in just one click.

If you have templates that contain various customers’ (text and naming) settings, you can use the

functions in this group to transfer from one template to any existing project in just one click. Up to

now, you have been forced to transfer each setting individually, which is very time consuming.

You have the following options:

You can TRANSFER all text settings, that means all text settings from symbols, lines,

connections points and reference texts to the active project in one operation

You can RETRIEVE all standard text settings into the active project in one operation

You can SAVE all text settings from the active project as new standard settings in one

operation

And finally, you can make the new text settings overrule the symbols’ own text settings.

4 Component Wizard

The Component Wizard has been extended with different functions that make it even easier to

create components in the database.

The Component Wizard has its own manual in which you can read about all functions.

The most important changes are

More tabs, so that data fields have been grouped into special tabs, eg Accessories

During creation of ‘normal’ components:

o Copy symbol x times

o Drag symbols to new position

o Possible to create alternative symbols

Multi-edit is no longer hidden

There is a new Delete option

It is much easier to attach accessories, and all accessories can be seen on its separate tab

External files, ie photos or datasheets, now have their own tab, and the wizard looks up in

the default alias-folders and writes the alias-name in the data field

Creation of cables

o Fetch existing cbl-file

o Edit existing cbl-file

o Last conductor is PE

o Accessory – plugs – per cable

Creation of PLCs

o Simple card with/without supply and communication

o Compact plc with/without supply and communication

o Configurable plc’s with/without plugs

o Analog plc’s

o Support of status type, that is the database can handle whether the plc is analog or

digital

4.1 How to start using the Component Wizard

The setup of the database and the data fields in the database decides what the Component Wizard

looks like. That means, that if the database doesn’t include the data fields that we use for e.g.

accessories, that you don’t have any contents on this tab.

If you want to try the Component Wizard and you are unsure about your own database setup, then

try to make a new installation where you start with a fresh PCS database. A new installation

contains all default data fields and the default setup, and you will be able to create the components

you can see in the manual.

5 The Mounting Assistant

The Mounting Assistant, which is developed for and is part of the PCSCHEMATIC Automation

Service program, is also a part of the version 19 Automation. The Service program has its own

manual, where you can see a detailed description of all of its functions.

The purpose of using the Mounting Assistant is to save time during the assembly of panels.

You will be guided through the mounting process, and the Assistant will show you what to mount

next.

You decide the order yourself, and during the entire process you will have an electronic overview of

how far you are. The currently selected connection is marked in the diagram.

If the project is changed during the mounting process, the program will draw your attention to this,

making it possible for you to maintain your overview.

You can let selected connections wait, and search through them later.

Furthermore, you can search for information about components and cables directly in the

component database and the Object List from the Mounting Assistant if you need to do any post

processing.

If you are more people doing a series production using the same diagram, each of you can open

the diagram, just assign individual order numbers.

You can’t change any part of the diagram using the Mounting Assistant.

If the icon is dimmed: You need to

save your project before you can

open it with the Mounting Assistant.

The Mounting Assistant shows

every single connection in the

diagram, one by one, with a starting

point and an end point.

You can then either mount the wire,

mark it as not mounted, ignored or

stuck.

In the display window you can see

the conductor, with From and To

points, and an icon that tells whether

it’s the only conductor to a terminal,

meaning you can finish it, or if it is

one of more conductors.

You can use the icons in the lower

window to sort the conductor list

according to Ref.designations,

components, nets, cables or jumper

connections.

5.1 Post-processing components

If you have components that need post-processing, e.g. timers that need to be set or components

that must be tightened with a specified torque, the necessary information can be found either in the

diagram or in the database.

Select the Components tab and search for a list of components that need post-processing; e.g.

tightening or setting. Write *Name* in the search field. The selected components are now in the

Assistant window, and at the bottom you can see, how many of them, you have done. The diagram

shows the component that you mark, so if the information is in the project, you will see it

immediately.

You can also find information about the components by using the Object List or the database.

Simply mark the component in the list and use the icons in the Components tab.

6 Bits and pieces

Also for this version – various small functions and extensions made in the program.

6.1 The Symbol Generator

The Symbol Generator

now has small arrows

that control the size.

For each click you

change height width

with 5 mm, however,

you can also type a

value directly.

The distance between

connection points is

default 5 mm (2M) and

they are centered now,

too.

Text sizes and fonts

follow the settings in

the current project,

when you start the

Symbol Generator.

6.2 Symbol Documentation

The Symbol Documentation tool can now also document symbols with states:

If you use the Symbol documentation tool in a project, it will document the states used in the

project.

If you use the tool to document symbols in a selected folder, it will show all possible symbol states.

6.3 New data fields for lists and symbols

6.3.1 Parts and Components list

When you make parts or component

lists, you can now include the Object

group name.

6.3.2 Predefined symbol data fields

The field Description – which is mapped to a database field in Database Settings|Component Data

– is now always available as a symbol data fields in the symbol editor. In this way the component’s

description can always show on its symbols, and in the language mapped from the database.

The. data field Ref.design for the component, is also available as a symbol data field in the symbol

editor. In this way it is always possible to show the components ref. designation separated from its

name.

6.3.3 Cable, terminal and plc-lists – built-in lists and list to file

Description for the cable’s connected

components can now be part of the

Cable list.

You can find the same kind of data

field in the terminal list, the plc list

(connected component) and in the

connections list file.

Page 18

Automation 19

6.3.4 Table of Contents

Page header’s state titles can

now be included in the Table

of Contents.

You can select state from the

primary and the secondary

page header.

6.4 Turn Up or Down on the mouse to Zoom

Some customers have asked for the option to turn the mouse

wheel the other way to zoom.

Go to Settings|Pointer/Screen to select which way to turn the

mouse wheel.

6.5 Copy object data – Components, cables and lines

The button Copy

component data copies

– as always – Name,

Type, Article no,

Function for a symbol,

and doesn’t include any

symbol data fields.

You can then insert the

copied data on any

other symbol.

Beware, that when you

copy cable data, you

can only insert this data

on other cable

symbols.

Copy Line data works a little different – it also

includes line data fields.

All lines will already have all line data fields,

not visible, but included.

Whereas symbol data fields are assigned per

symbol.

6.6 Scripts

The script function has been a part of the Automation program in several versions. Now and again

we add new scripts and all ‘common’ scripts are included in the program.

The scripts you make can be added to the list, and you can also add scripts – maybe with better

names – to the Tools menu.

7 Administrator program

We are currently updating the Administrator program.

Shortly, the main focus for the update is to support all relevant Automation settings in the

Administrator program, and to update the manual. And yes, currently several functions are not

supported.

You are welcome to contact us, if you have input for the Administrator program.
