Turner, Mrs. Nannie, 89, of Rt 1, Whitwell, died in a Dunlap Hospital, Tuesday afternoon. She is survivied by four [4] daughters: Mrs. Bessie Staley, Chattanooga; Mrs. Sytandifer Kilgore, Dunlap; Mrs. Anna Foyd, Stevenson, AL; and Mrs. Hazel Layne, Rt Whitwell; two [2] sons: Melvin Nunley, Peoria, ILL; Roy Nunley, Rt Whitwell; 47 grandchildren; 114 g-grandchildren. Fact 2: 01 Dec 2009, per phone conversation with one of the other grandchildren, she stated Nannie was really named Nancie/Nancy but she did not like that name so she changed it to Nannie instead. Down through the years, she was called Nannie.

Luther and Alice have 1 child, Wilson, 1 year and 5 months. John Partin and Luther Nunley were working in the Coal Mines.

Fact 3: 1930 US Census report shows Luther, age 39, living with his wife, Alice, age 39, and 3 children, Wilson, age 11, Mabel K., age 5, and Elsie, age 2 6/12, in the in the 5th Civil District of Tracy City, Grundy County, Tennessee, Line #86, Household 214/220, and Enumerated on 16 Apr 1930. Luther is working as a Timberman at this time.

Fact 4: One family member states, he was killed by a hit and run driver, while hitchhiking to Emanual County, Georgia. He was taken to a Chattanooga hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. His death certificate states he died at Sequatchie General Hospital in Dunlap, Sequatchie County, Tennessee, not Chattanooga. His length of stay in that county was 7 days. His brother, Roy Nunley, Rt 1, Whitwell, Tennessee was listed as the Informant. Howard Ewton was the Funeral director and Luther is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Tracy City, Grundy County, Tennessee.

Fact 5: Chattanooga Hamilton Bi-Centennial Library lists the Obituaries placed in the papers of Hamilton County and surrounding counties. It showed Luther Edward Nunley died 21 June 1962 and his obituary was placed in the Chattanooga Times, page 11.Obituary: "Nunley, Luther Edward: 72, died in a Dunlap Hospital Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nannie Turner; two daughters: Elsie and Mabel Nunley of Swainsboro, Georgia; two sons: Frank of Swainsboro, Georgia, Wilson Nunley, Chattanooga; two brothers: Roy Nunley of Whitwell, Rt 1, and Melvin Nunley of Peoria, ILL; four sisters: Mrs Leory Layne, Whitwell, Rt 1, Mrs. Floyd Staley, Chattanooga, Mrs. Standford Kilgore, Dunlap, Rt 1, and Mrs. Grover Floyd, Stevenson, AL. Funeral services will be at Cartwright Baptist Church at 1:00 PM, CST, Friday, the Rev. Blake Carter, officiating. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery near Tracy City. The body will remain at Ewton Funeral Home at Dunlap."

Fact 2: October 2011, we visited Mrs. Minnie Lee Foshee Dent, spouse of Harry Leon Dent, and she stated Maud and Will's house had burned down. Maud died during premature child birth of a little boy. The infant is most likely buried in the same grave as Maud at Oak Grove Cemetery.
