Why did you decide to attend Andrews University? I wanted to experience what it was like coming to a
diverse community of students from around the world as
well as to further my Adventist education. I had applied to
other Adventist universities but Andrews responded the
quickest.
What do you enjoy about the School of Business Administration (SBA)? The classes and the professional experiences that the
professors bring. The SBA offers many opportunities for
students to grow and participate in: career fairs,
internship position offerings, study tours, and work with
top companies. Also being a business student gives you
the opportunity to learn how businesses operate in the
world and develop strong leadership skills which someday
may help you open your own business.
What has been your favorite business class? One of my favorite classes is INFS226 Hardware &
Software because you learn how to build computers, test
networks, build robotics, and more. Another class would
be Systems Analysis & Design. In this class we got to
work with a real client in a small business and our class
examined situations in which we can help improve and
better the business to increase their growth and
profitability.
What do you enjoy about Information Systems? Armand Poblete and Betty Gibson, the INFS professors,
both bring real world experiences and skills to get you up
to par in information technology and teach you how
businesses depend on IT to achieve an organization’s
business objectives. Also in the classes you get to build
computers, robots, learn programming, enhance your
skills in office programs and much more - which is fun if
you like working with IT.
Do you currently have a part-time position? Yes, I currently work three jobs on campus. I work as
an IT specialist for the School of Business assisting
students and faculty with any technical issues. I also
work for Pioneer Memorial Church media team as a
camera operator shooting for programs in Chapel,
Vesper and Sabbath services. Lastly, i work as a Cashier
at the Dining Service cafeteria.
Do you have a favorite business professor? Ben Maguad is one of my favorite professors. I learn a
lot from his class in management and how it applies to
real situations. I’ve become interested in learning how
to be an effective manager/leader through his class.
What organization might you want to work for? Working in a healthcare organization has always been
something I have been interesting in because there are
many nurses in my family who wanted me to go into
nursing. In fact, I actually started out as a nursing
major here in Andrews but I’ve had a change of mind
and switched to the School of Business as an
Information Systems major. I’ve had my second interest
in IT and hopefully someday in the future I’ll be able to
apply my technical and business skills to healthcare.
Any advice for prospective business students? Get involved in many activities on campus especially
with the School of Business Administration. Apply for
internships! You will benefit a lot from the experience
and concepts you applied working out there in the real
world. And lastly, take the opportunity to go on study
tours.
