FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to our second Aveley Informer for Term Two Our behaviour expectation for the next fortnight is … Raise your hand in class before asking questions or making statements’. NAPLAN The majority of Year Three and Five students have now successfully completed their NAPLAN assessments. Next week those students who have been absent for some or all of the assessments will complete these in catch up sessions. Staff and students are to be commended for the seamless way NAPLAN was planned for and completed. SCHOOL BOARD The APS Board met earlier this week to discuss a number of agenda items. 2018 School Report The School Report is a mandated accountability document that is provided to the Department of Education and to the school community. This report demonstrates our achievements for the 2018 school year and highlights our ongoing commitment to enhancing the educational outcomes for all of our students here at Aveley Primary School. Once ratified by the School Board the School Report will be available to the community. Sustainability The School Board were provided with information around our journey to become a more sustainable school. A explanation of the way each year level focuses on a different aspect of sustainability as linked to the WA Curriculum and Early Years Learning Framework was also provided. Information was also provided around the use of the four coloured recycling bins in the playground and the processing of the waste from those bins. NETWORK SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY FRIDAY, 31 MAY

On Friday, 31 May all school staff will be attending professional learning sessions across the Ellenbrook Network of schools. As previously advised this will be a day where students do not attend school. School will resume on Tuesday, 4 June as Monday, 3

June is a public Holiday for WA Day.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Children with Disability (NCCD) is a mandated census undertaken by all schools once every year. Please find attached a fact sheet for parents/guardians and carers which explains in great detail

the purpose of the census.

SECOND HAND UNIFORMS A range of affordable second hand uniform items will be available for purchase at next week’s assembly on Thursday, 23 May. Thank you to our P & C for managing this

opportunity.

SCHOOL ROAD SAFETY GUIDE

The City of Swan have developed a new School Road Safety Guide to assist with school parking management. Please take the time to view the brochure to assist with parking compliance surrounding our school. This safety initiative was the result of a request from our School Road Safety

Committee.

2020 APPLICATIONS

In Western Australia, children can start their education in Kindergarten, however compulsory schooling starts the following

year in Pre-primary. All children of compulsory school age must be enrolled in school and attend every day – this is the law.

You need to apply to enrol your children in school for 2020 if they are:

starting Kindergarten – 4 years old by 30 June 2020

starting Pre-primary, the first year of compulsory school – 5 years old by 30 June 2020

starting Year 7, the first year of secondary school

changing schools.

The closing date for all Applications is Friday, 26 July 2019. Please note Applications for Enrolment are not to be confused with Enrolments. All applicants will be contacted shortly after closing date advising if their application has been

successful and invite them to return and complete enrolment forms.

LOST PROPERTY

Our lost property box is overflowing! Please ensure you label all your children’s clothing and regularly check in lost property if you are missing any items. The lost property box is located

outside the Administration building.

A reminder that payments are due by the following dates for upcoming school activities;

Due now - In term swimming Yr. 3 - 6 students - $37.00

Friday, 14 June - Yr. 5 Scitech Incursion - $6.00

Wednesday, 19 June—Guildford cross country - selected students only

Payment plans are available through arrangement with the Manager, Corporate Services

however full payment must still be received by the due date.

Hi All, We had a successful couple of days throughout our Mothers Day stall and would like to thank all our volunteers who came and helped out. It is always greatly appreciated, and it was great to see some new faces join us this year so thank you. .

The P&C will be holding a 2nd hand uniform sale at the next junior assembly on Thursday, 23 May. We will have a variety of items on sale so if you are needing something please come down and have a look.

WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN

A friendly reminder Aveley Primary are participating in the Earn & Learn program again this year, please where possible grab a pamphlet from the front office or ask when shopping at Woollies. It would assist us if you could fill a sheet with stickers before placing them in the Aveley PS box.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

Entertainment books are now available to purchase. They have some fantastic vouchers/deals and everyone who has purchased a book so far has already said they made their money back within the first couple of times they using the book. For more information contact the P&C at [email protected]

SCHOOL BANKING

School banking is in the undercover area Tuesday mornings between 8.25am-8.45am. We would like to let you know Tuesday, 4 June after the long weekend School banking will be closed, Kim and Helen will be back as normal the following Tuesday, 11 June. Remember it is never to late too start banking so please feel free to chat with Helen & Kim or visit our local Commonwealth Bank branch.

CANTEEN NEWS

Our canteen is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Don’t forget to download the Flexischools app to make ordering lunches more convenient. Helen and Laura are always looking for volunteers so if you have some time free where you can help out on canteen days please contact Helen on the Facebook page.

CAMP AUSTRALIA

The month of May provides us with great opportunities to recognise and celebrate the many different forms that families

can take. National Families week is celebrated from Wednesday 15th May to Tuesday 21st May.

In Before and After School Care, children will be exploring the theme for National Families Week 2019,

“Stronger Families, Stronger Communities”. Join us this week to celebrate families and friends!

When - National Families Week is May 15th to May 21st.

Where - Your child’s school OSHC room.

How to register - You must be registered to attend. Registration is FREE! You can register an account via our

website www.campaustralia.com.au.

How to book - Once registered, it’s easy to make and manage your bookings online via our parent portal

pp.campaustralia.com.au. We always recommend making your bookings in advance.

If you would like to learn more about our OSHC service, please visit us before or after school and our program Coordinator

will be available to answer any questions. If you prefer to call us, you can contact our friendly Customer Care Team on
