Why Deposit?

• The AHDS archives and provides access to digital resources:– The AHDS can make data available in a number of

ways, through offline or portable media, web-accessible interfaces or FTP sites

– The AHDS can ensure the long term preservation of your resource as software and hardware develops and current platforms become obsolete

• The AHDS can manage access and use of your resource

• (It’s a requirement of AHRB funding)

How to Deposit

1. Contact the AHDS!Guidelines for depositors can be found at http://www.ahds.ac.uk/dephow.htm

AHDS Depositor License• The AHDS has a non-exclusive license, which must

be signed before a resource can be deposited– Special agreements can be negotiated for resources that

have significant or long-term access restrictions

• Signing does not grant copyright to the AHDS, or remove it from the depositor

• Signing does allow the AHDS to:– Catalogue, enhance, validate and document your

resource– Electronically store, translate, copy, or re-arrange the

resource

AHDS Copyright Requirements

• To deposit data with the AHDS you must:-– Identify all copyright holders for all materials used

in your resources - images, text, film, audio...– Gain written permission to deposit their materials

with the AHDS and to make these materials available online

– Negotiate with the AHDS any special requirements for access and preservation of the data
