Background

• The Department of Transportation applied for and was awarded a 2009 Metro Call for Projects grant to enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists on Cordova Street between Arroyo Parkway and Hill Street.

• Changes to federal funding resulted in suspension of the Metro funds and delays,

• In 2015, Metro Board voted to restore funding to the Cordova Project

Cordova Street Project Initial Goals

• Consistent with City’s Mobility Element objectives to “promote a livable community where people can circulate without cars”

• Improve safety of non-motorized users

• Increase the proportion of trips accomplished by biking and walking

• Provide an ideal linkage to Del Mar Metro Gold Line station, businesses, stores and employment centers in the South Lake District of Pasadena, as well as to academic institutions, including Pasadena City College and Caltech.

• Shorten Pedestrian Crossings at intersections

• Maintain or reduces vehicular speeds

• Installs Bike lanes in both Directions

Additional Enhancements Project Enhancments

• Project length about 1.4 miles

• 2.8 miles of buffered bike lanes

• Five bioswales or about 425 linear feet (SW Oakland Avenue, NW

Madison Avenue, SW Oak Knoll Avenue, NE Michigan Avenue, NW Holliston Avenue)

• 45 painted ladder crosswalks

• Integrated curb extensions at 5 un-signalized intersections or 20 corners (Oakland Avenue, Madison Avenue, Oak Knoll Avenue, Michigan Avenue,

Holliston Avenue)

• 38 ADA curb ramps including 17 non-compliant corners (Euclid Avenue, Lake Avenue, Mentor Avenue, Catalina Avenue, Chester Avenue)
