ALEJANDRO PINZÓN“From Church to Tango” 7:30 p.m. | October 6, 2017Hensdale Chapel

Alejandro Pinzón is an experienced teaching artist with a quest to inspire others through art. An orchestra conductor, Tango dancer, bandoneón and

violin player, and sometimes also a photographer, Pinzón first encountered Tango in the early 2000s. He travels across the country performing and conducting Tango concerts, teaching music master classes, dance workshops, and leading interactive lectures about Argentine Tango.

Dr. Keith Dippre is currently the Department Chairman and Professor of Music at Methodist University, teaching such courses as music

theory, aural skills, and composition. Dr. Dippre received a Regional Artist Project Grant from the Arts Council of Fayetteville and Cumberland County and was an artist-in-residence at the Artist’s Enclave at I-Park (East Haddam, Conn.). In October of 2003 his piece “Pilgrim’s Blues” (for piano, violin, and cowbell) premiered in Northampton, Mass., commemorating the tercentenary celebration of Jonathan Edwards. He has had commissions and performances with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, and his current publishers are Imagine Music (Medina, N.Y.) and Ars Nova Music (Seattle, Wash.), and Renforth Music (New Brunswick, Canada).

On his sabbatical from Methodist University (fall of 2009), he took part in the Fresno New Music Festival and was a guest lecturer at Azusa Pacific University. He was also the recent recipient of ASCAPLUS awards for 2010, 2013, and the 2012 Henry Grady Miller Cup award for his choral work “Daughters of Song.” In 2014, he accepted the Faculty Research and Creative Expression award at Methodist University. In 2016, he performed his piece “Lengua No Más” at the College Music Society National Conference in Santa Fe, N.M.

DUO CINTEMANIFlute and guitar duo7:30 p.m. | October 20, 2017Hensdale Chapel

Comprised of flautist Rachel Taratoot Ciraldo and guitarist Nicholas Ciraldo, Duo Cintemani is a fun pair of musical talents with a reputation for being

distinctive, expressive, and colorful. Early on, the duo were prizewinners at the 2004 National Flute Association Chamber Music Competition and semifinalists at the 2006 Gaettano Zinetti Chamber Music Competition in Italy. They trained with flutist Thomas Robertello; guitarists David Leisner, Eliot Fisk, and Adam Holzman; clarinetist Ethan Sloane; pianist Edward Auer; and the Shanghai String Quartet.

Duo Cintemani has performed at the Hampden-Sydney Music Festival, where the Richmond Times-Dispatch praised them for their “distinctive readings of the music of Astor Piazzolla,” and at the Center for Arts in Natick. The duo has also performed at prestigious festivals and series including the Boston Classical Guitar Society Guitar Festival, FestivalSouth, the Pelican State Chamber Series, the Lamar Chamber Series, the New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes, and several other series across the country.

The musicians have been featured artists at the Simposio Academico de Violão, in Curitiba, Brazil. They have collaborated twice with the Community Partnerships Program of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and performed for the Austin Classical Guitar Society’s Educational Outreach Program, among other organizations.

Rachel and Nicholas reside in Hattiesburg, Miss.

NYAMSAIKHAN ODSURENClassical violinist7:30 p.m. | February 2, 2018Hensdale Chapel

Nyamsaikhan “Nyamka” Odsuren is a violinist and a conductor from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where he started playing the violin at age 6. A prizewinner

of the National Youth Strings Competition, he represented Mongolia at music festivals in Istanbul, Moscow, and Tianjin at an early age. Odsuren has given tour concerts in Austria and Slovenia while attending the United World College of the Adriatic as a Music Scholar in Duino, Italy. As a UWC Davis Scholar, Odsuren received his Bachelor of Music from Methodist University, where he was awarded the Willis C. Gates Music Award. He holds a Master of Music from East Carolina University, where he studied under the mentorship of Ara Gregorian in violin and Dr. Jorge Richter in orchestral conducting, and has been a regular participant of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival.

Currently, Odsuren is pursuing a D.M.A. in Orchestral Conducting at the University of South Carolina under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Portnoy. As a conductor, he has worked with orchestras such as the Long Bay Symphony Orchestra, the Mongolian State Philharmonic, the University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra, and East Carolina University Symphony Orchestra. Odsuren is an active freelance violinist around the Carolinas, regularly performing with ensembles such as the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Long Bay Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra Augusta.

Jeffrey L. Jones, baritone, is well versed in both stage and concert repertoire. He is an associate professor of music at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach,

S.C. Jones was awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts in vocal performance at Arizona State University, where he also received a Master of Music in opera performance. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas and is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy. During his studies, Jones worked under Andrew Campbell, Jerry Doan, Harold Heiberg, Walter Huff, Jeffrey Norris, Juanita Peters, William Reber, and Eckart Sellheim.

His stage credits include Escamillo in Carmen, Papageno in Magic Flute, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Belcore in Elixir of Love, and Father in Hansel and Gretel, among others, and he has performed with multiple other artists.

Pianist Philip Powell has performed throughout the U.S. His concerts are frequently heard on South Carolina Public Radio, and he appears regularly

as an adjudicator and guest teacher for competitions and master classes throughout the U.S. Locally, he has served as president of the Coastal Concert Association, music director of the Festival of Music and Art at Pawleys Island, founding director of the Musicale de Geneve series, a member of the board of directors of the Long Bay Symphony, and is a current member of the board of directors for the Litchfield Dance Academy. Powell studied at the Aspen Music Festival under the late Edith Oppens.

Powell joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 1988. He earned a bachelor’s degree in musical arts from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree in music, and received a Doctor of Music from Indiana University.
