Recap of October Events:
We started the month with a successful and wonderful marketing week, which consisted of a
job workshop, etiquette dinner and virtual conference. In addition to marketing week, we
hosted two workshops and one speaker meeting.
The speaker was Greg Johnson Director of Retail Sales for Milo’s Tea Company. He gave a
unique presentation by giving real-life stories from his current position in Milo’s Tea Company
and past employer, Blue Bell Ice Cream, and tying them to successful marketing.
Both of our workshops gave insights into some of the many facets of marketing. Our first
workshop of the month was a Ted Talk given by Malcolm Gladwell, where he talked about how

market research taught food
producers about different market
segments that they had never
thought about before. Our second
workshop was given by Dr. Linda
Alkire, an assistant professor at Texas
State. She taught us about the
services marketing concentration
offered here at Texas State and what
services marketing really is.
Along with our workshops and
speaker meetings, we had a few fun
socials. During marketing week, we
had a volleyball tournament at Sewell park, which was fun for everyone and brought people to
work together as a team. We also had a few Halloween themed socials, with a trip down to San
Antonio to go to a haunted house, along with a pumpkin painting party. This has been an
extremely busy month from beginning to end, but we had fun working on all these events. Luckily
the semester is not over, so we still have some more events.
This is the 20th year for The Sife/Enactus Free Enterprise City project. Six elementary schools in San
Marcos participate, bringing their gifted and talented 4th grade students to the event. The students
learn free enterprise economic principles through semester long interactive lessons, culminating in a
Jeopardy style competition.
