BACHELOR OF ARTS - CARIBBEAN STUDIESThe BA Caribbean Studies will equip you with the knowledge and skills that can open numerous career opportunities in any part of the globe. These include Cultural Policy practitioners, Archivists, Curators, Teachers, Journalists, Editors, Entrepreneurs ... just for starters!

Connect Caribbean Life and Learning!The BA Caribbean Studies will introduce you to the interdisciplinary study of the Caribbean. You will learn about the history, environment and the socio-cultural features of modern existence that have come to constitute the Caribbean experience.

The BA Caribbean Studies was crafted to represent the range of knowledge on the Caribbean currently taught across the Campus. Therefore, when you register for this programme you will not only follow courses in the Cultural Studies discipline, you will also be exposed to an array of courses from other Faculties, including the Faculty of Humanities and Education and The Faculty of Social Sciences.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For the Three-Year Programme

You will need at least:

a) Five passes in CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency with at least Grade III (Grade II if done before 1998), OR GCE ‘O’ Level of at least Grade C, OR BGCSE examinations. Subjects passed should include:

(i) English Language and

(ii) one of the following: a Foreign Language, Mathematics, Geography, or an approved Science subject AND

b) Two 2-unit CAPE/GCE ‘A’ Levels, or an Associate Degree with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.

For the Four-Year Programme

You will need at least:

a) five (5) acceptable passes at CSEC (CXC)/GCE/BGCSE examinations. Subjects passed should include:

(i) English Language and

(ii) one of the following: a foreign language, Mathematics, Geography, or an approved Science subject.

English Language Requirement:

You are required to take the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) before entry if you are not in possession of one of the following:

(i) Grade 1 in CXC General Proficiency in English A (ii) Grade 1 or 2 in CAPE Communications Studies examination (iii) Grade A in the Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level examination (iv) Grade A or B in the Alternative Ordinary (AO) General Paper (v) CORE100 English and Communication with Grade B

or higher from the Barbados Community College.

The BA is a 90-credit programme and depending on your qualifications you will receive a THREE or FOUR year offer.

COURSESThe BA Caribbean Studies is a 90-credit programme (the majority of courses are worth 3 credits). It gives you the opportunity to choose from the rich courses in Cultural Studies, History, Literatures in English, Sociology, Political Science, Gender Studies, Linguistics, Environmental Science, and Management Studies.
