Department Activities Report – academic year 2018-2019 (odd semester)

“Cosflex” Association Inauguration:

The department association ‘Cosflex’ was inaugurated by our Director, and the Chief Guest

Mr.A.K.B.Nawas Babu, Mangaing Director, S.A.Knit Wears, Madurai on 02/08/2018 by lighting

Kuthuvilakku. In this programme our honourable Director G.Venkatasalapathy delivered presidential

address and Head of the department Mrs.V.Santhanalakshmi delivered felicitation address.

The programme started with the prayer song by P.Priyadharshini of II year and V.Manjula of

III year. S.Gopika of III year delivered the welcome address. Our head of the department

Mrs.V.Santhanalakshmi presented memento to our chief guest.

Mr.A.K.B.Nawas Babu, Mangaing Director, S.A.Knit Wears, Madurai, chief guest of the

function presented seminar on “Digital Marketing in Fashion and Apparel industry”. In this

seminar, he explained about the application of digital marketing methodology in the Fashion and

Apparel industries. In that seminar students actively interacted with the chief guest and clear their

doubts in the application area of digital marketing in fashion and apparel industries.

Then the student members of the association of the year 2018-2019 were introduced by

Mr.K.Sivasankaran Assistant Professor of the department. M.Siva of III year presented annual report

of the year 2017-2018 and also he listed the proposed activities of the year 2018-2019. Ms.V.Ida

Ebeneser of III year delivered vote of thanks for the occasion.

In the afternoon session, Paper presentation competition conducted for our students to

improve their presentation skills. In that competition, II and III year students actively participated and

presented papers in key areas of textile and fashion. Best performed students were identified and

appreciated by head of the department.

One week CAD training programme:

Our department organised one week CAD training on “ESSDi Apparel CAD Software” for

III year students from 02/08/2018 to 10/08/2018. In this training program Mr.Selvam, Executive

member of ESSDi Infotech Corporation trained students to design pattern using CAD software. In

the last day of the training, students were evaluated by the instructor of training programme.

Industrial Visit on 23/08/2018:

As a part of the curriculum, students have undergone industrial visit every year. This year II

and III year students visited the Master Linen Inc., Karur to learn the various processes involved

in manufacturing of Home textile products.

Workshops:

Our department conducted various workshops on 25/08/2018 to enhance the creativity of our

students. Mrs. M.Anitha, Assistant professor and Ms.S.Kanagavel Lab Assistant of our department

conducted workshop on “Designing of Princess cut blouse” for III year and workshop on “Aari

Work” for II year students. Mr.S.Thanagamuneeswaran, Assistant professor of our conducted

workshop on “Greeting card preparation” for I year students.

Intra- department competitions:

Our department organised intra department competitions for our students on 31/10/2018. In this

programme, our III year students conducted various competitions like Nail art, Hair Do, Mehandi,

Fashion Illustration to the I and II year students with the guidance of Head of the department and staff

members. In the next day, a fashion show organized by our III year students. Prizes were distributed

to the best performed students.

EoI with Texvalley:

Our department has submitted the Expression of Interest letter to sign MOU with TexValley

Market Limited, Cluster Development Initiatives in the programme of WEAVES 2019 held at Erode

on 07/12/2018.

Workshop on “Fashion Illustrator”

Our department organized workshop on “Fashion Illustrator” on 09/01/2019 for our II year and

III year students. Mr.S.Manikandan and Mr.M.Venkatramani, Phoenix Multimedia Computer

Education Center, Rajapalayam. Conducted the workshop.

Workshop on “Quilling Ear Ring Making”

Our department III year students conducted workshop on “Quilling Ear Ring making” for I year

students on 19/01/2019.

Guest Lecture:

Our department organized the Guest lecture on “Financial Support services of DIC”, delivered

by Mr.T.Kannan, Manager, District Industries Center, Thothukkudi on 01/02/2019.

National Level Seminar on 19/02/2019:

Our department organized the National Level Seminar on “Green Textiles and its

Marketing Strategies” on 19/02/2019. The seminar started with the prayer song by L.Queen Mary

of III year. Our head of the department Mrs.V.Santhanalaskhmi welcomed the gathering with her

warm welcome address. Inaugural address for this auspicious occasion is delivered by

Dr.G.Venkadasalapathi , Director of our college.

In the first technical session, Mrs.M.Anitha, Assistant professor of our department introduced

chief guest Dr.S.Karpagam Chinnammal to the gathering.Then Dr.S.Karpagam Chinnammal,

Head and assistant professor of costume design and fashion of Chikkana College presented the lecture

entitled “Green Textiles”.

In the second technical session, Mr.S. Thangamunneswaran, assistant professor of our

department introduced the resource person. Mr. G. Somasundaram, Southern Zone Head,Skill

Development at IL & FS Skills,Bengaluru , presented his speech in the topic “Marketing Tools and

Strategies for Eco-friendly Fashion Product”.

Then the Paper Presentation Competition was conducted for the participants. 200 students from

various colleges participated and benefited from this seminar. Mr.K.Sivasankaran, assistant

professor, delivered the vote of thanks for this seminar.

Extension Activity:

Our department organized Workshop on Art and Craft for the village people in connection

with the NSS Camp conducted by GVN College (Aided) at New Appaneri. III year students

conducted the programme under the guidance of Mrs.M.Anitha, Assistant Professor, and Department

of CDF.
