The Department of Mechanical Engineering at K V G Collegeof Engineering was established in the year 1986. Since theinception of the Mechanical Engineering course, it iscontinuing to provide excellent facilities for education witha dedicated faculty of highly qualified and experiencemembers. Keeping itself upto date with the latestdevelopment and trends in the field, the laboratories andworkshops are well equipped with modern machines andequipments to provide the best of teaching–learningenvironment to the students. The Department is equippedwith the needed and adequate infrastructure to nurture thestudents as knowledgeable professionals. With the intakeof 120 students for the Bachelor of Engineering and 18 forMaster of Technology in Product Design and Manufacturingprogram, the objective is served.

Department of Mechanical Engineering- Department Profile

Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of all engineering disciplines, encompassing areas suchas energy, fluid mechanics, dynamics, combustion, vibration, design, manufacturing processes, systems modeling and simulation, mechatronics, robotics, mechanics of material, rapid prototypingand composites. It is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when the firstwheels were put to practical use by mounting them on an axle to make a cart. Throughoutrecorded history, people have been inventing and building increasingly more sophisticated devicesand machines in order to improve the conditions of life. Many of the machines encounter everyday such as cars, appliances, tools and climate control systems — were made possible bymechanical engineers.

The department is considered to be the leading department in the college. Over the years studentsof this branch bagged several ranks in the university level both in UG and PG programs andbrought laurels to the college. Dr. Umashankar K S is heading the department with 03 Professors,06 Associate Professors and 23 Assistant Professors. Apart from the teaching, the department isactively engaged in research in the areas Mechanical Engineering.
