FDP on “Advanced Surveying”- January 23rd to 27th 2017 Department of civil engineering in collaboration with Indian Concrete

Institute (ICI) and IEI Conducted Six days National level Faculty Development

Programme (FDP) on “ADVANCED SURVEYING” from January 23rd to

27th 2017. This was a unique programme wherein research professors Dr. M S

Ganesh Prasad (NIE, Mysore) and Dr. T Mahadevaiah (BGS, Bengaluru)

spoke about the applications of advanced surveying in the field of civil

Engineering. The FDP was attended by more than 35 enthusiastic participants

including teaching faculties from different institutions. Programme was

compeered by Head of the Civil Engineering Department.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Established in 2004 with modest intake strength of 40 the department has grown three

folds to 120. The PG course in Structural Engineering was started in August 2013. The

department has a balanced competency of faculty richly experienced, highly qualified

and talented in diverse fields. The department has been actively engaged in conducting

workshops, trainings, technical lectures and publishing research papers, newsletters and

conducting industrial visits. Students are engaged in professional activities through

student chapters.

I am happy to note that the Civil Engineering Department SVCE is showcasing their

activities & achievement through the department newsletter “AAVISHKAR”.I wish

them success in their future endeavor!

I am happy to note that the department of Civil Engineering is bringing out the

Newsletter “AAVISHKAR” for the academic year 2016-17. I hope this newsletter will

throw insight on department activities such as workshops, seminars, industrial visits,

academic performance of the students and other co-curricular and extra-curricular

activities. This newsletter will also provide a platform for highlighting the achievements

of students and faculty members of Civil Engineering Department. I congratulate the

A guest talk on “Shifting Focus from Supply to

Demand - The changing face of Transportation

Engineering towards Sustainable

Development” by Professor Dr. Ashish Verma

(IISC, Bengaluru) on 5th April 2017 for the

benefits of all the students. This technical talk

was attended by more than 200 audience

including students and faculties.

“Structural Behaviour Of RC Elements” from

April 6th to 8th 2017. The Chief Guest for this

event Dr.Sreenivasa K L (BMSCE Bengaluru)

explained the behavior of RC Elements under

loading frame. This event was attended by

more than 81 participants including students

and faculties.

Sustainable Waste Manage-ment: A Move towards Clean India Department of civil Engineering in associ-

ation with Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and IEI

Conducted Two Days National Seminar on

“Sustainable Waste Management: A Move towards

Clean India” The Chief Guests for this event are Dr.

V Ramachandra is a renowned technocrat currently

Zonal Head, Ultra Tech Cements Ltd., Bengaluru.

His current research includes concrete and contem-

porary environmental issues and Dr. Doddashanaiha

is currently working as Environmental Officer in

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Head Of-

fice, Bangalore presented the concepts of recycling

the building demolition waste for engineering prac-

tice. Dr. Rajakumara H N Professor & Head in the

department, Dr.Amiya P.Goswami Professor, Dr.

Prahallada M.C, Professor and Dr. Latha M. S, As-

sociate Professor in the Department of Civil Engi-

neering SVCE delivered the technical talk on Sus-

tainable waste management. The outcome of the

event includes Contemporary practices and prob-

lems faced to overcome handling and management

of urban waste and creates awareness on legal pro-

visions and compliances.

World Earth Day” on April 22nd

2017

Department of civil engineering in collaboration

with Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and IEI Steered

“World Earth Day” on April 22nd 2017 on behalf of

more than 260 audience to create the awareness

about the carelessness attitude of human towards

our environment. The Chief Guest for this event

3 days Educational visit to Supa Dam

The department of Civil Engineering, Sri Venkateshwara College of

Engineering organised a 3 days long educational visit to Supa Dam and it is

built across Kalinadi (Kannada) or Kali river in state of Karnataka in India.

The dam is situated in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district. The power house

at the foot of the dam has two electricity generators fifty mega watt each. The

electricity generated is supplied to various parts of Karnataka. Visit was

organised as per VTU guidelines and recommendations regarding syllabus of

BE. The trip was accompanied by the faculty members Ms. Shilpa,

Ms.Amulya T H, Mr Chandrashekar SY, Mr Madhu KA . Visit was organised

with the prior permission and guidance of honourable principal of SVCE. by

the initiative and hard efforts of Dr. Rajakumara H N, Professor and Head

of Civil Engineering Department. They also visited the places Yana, which is

known for the unusual karst rock formations in India and Chiklihole dam, is a

small reservoir built across the river Chiklihole flowing through the Cauvery

basin of Karnataka

Under the forum of Department of civil Engineering the Technical Club -“IGNITE” (Innovative Group of

New & Intellectual Talented Engineers) inaugurated by Head of the department of civil engineering. This

event conducted number of technical actions like technical quiz and paper presentations. This event was

attended by more than 200 audience including students and faculties.

Department of Civil Engineering Celebrated “Farewell day” for the outgoing students of B E and M.Tech

on 31/06/2017.This event would not have been a grand success without the love , active participation and

support of the faculties.
