The Hess Lab is looking for students interested in testing the effects of feed substrates on methane production and microbial populations in the rumen. Interns will be given the opportunity to learn basic procedures including, but not limited to; constructing rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC) experiments, DNA/RNA extraction, gas chromatography, and animal handling experiences. Applicants should be willing to work approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Requirements: good academic standing, excellent academic performance, team player, good record keeping and analytical skills. Previous lab experience preferred, but not required.
Applicants must have knowledge of (or at least strong interest in): Ruminant Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology.
Preference will be given to applications turned in before March 2.

Job Description – Quality Control Engineer Position Title: QC Engineer – Entry Level Reports To: Director of Engineering and R&D Supervisor: N/A FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: The QC Engineer is responsible for executing and maintaining the QA/QC program and related activities. The QC Engineer will perform routine and non-routine sampling, analysis, and record-keeping to support production and process development, as well as support project and process optimization efforts as directed. Employer Description: California Safe Soil (CSS) provides a unique full-cycle process to recycle supermarket organics into fertilizers, feeds, and other valuable bioproducts. CSS Improves agricultural yields while reducing negative environmental impacts and saving money. CSS operates a production facility in McClellan, CA.
Job Functions Essential Functions
Performance, recordkeeping, and document control of all QC procedures Conduct routine and non-routine sampling and analysis from commercial production facility Preparation and shipment of samples to third party labs for analysis Assist in development and implementation of analytical/QC methods to support production and

Background:
Congressionally funded, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) through the USA Study Abroad Office
Administered by the Institute of International Education
Named after retired congressman Benjamin A. Gilman from New York, the program was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000.
Since inception in 2001, over 22,000 U.S. undergraduates of high financial need awarded a Gilman Scholarship from more than 1,100 institutions and going to over 140 countries.
Encourages U.S. undergraduate students:
Who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad (see box above).
From a diverse range of public and private institutions from all 50 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories.
To choose academic and internship programs in diverse and non‐traditional study abroad destinations.
Eligibility: To apply for a scholarship, an applicant must:
Be a citizen of the United States;
Be an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including both two‐year and four‐year institutions);
Be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of his/her study abroad program or internship;
Be in the process of applying to, or accepted for, a study abroad or internship program of at least two weeks for community college students and four weeks for students from four‐year institutions, in a single country and eligible for credit from the student's home institution. Proof of program acceptance is required prior to award disbursement;
Be proposing to study in a country not currently under a Travel Warning issued by the U.S. Department of State* or otherwise determined ineligible for program participation. * Students applying to programs in Mexico may only apply for scholarships to support study in Mexican states where no travel advisory is in effect according to the U.S. Department of State Travel Warning List.

o How the Gilman Scholarship can help you accomplish these goals o Challenges you have faced in education and studying abroad, such as lack of family
support, work obligations, or disabilities (apparent or non‐apparent) 2) Follow‐on Service Project Proposal: propose a potential project to complete within 6 months
from return to the U.S. that will encourage others to study or intern abroad and spread awareness of the Gilman Scholarship, which can be completed on home campus or in local community. Strong proposals identify the following: o Target audiences that would benefit from learning about the Gilman Scholarship o Collaboration with groups or organizations already involved with o Creative, but feasible plan

CRITERIA FOR CCW $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP
1. The recipient of the CCW Memorial Scholarship must be a graduate of a California high school.
2. When filing the application, the student must have a collegiate junior, senior, or graduate standing.
3. Applicants must be a full-‐time student with a minimum of 12 units.
4. Applicants must have an agricultural course of study.
5. Applicant’s overall GPA must be a minimum of 3.0.
6. There will be five (5) CattleWomen, each local to the following universities:
a. CSU Chico
b. CSU Fresno
c. CSPU Pomona
d. CSPU San Luis Obispo
e. UC Davis
These ladies shall be responsible for selecting the recipient and may elect a committee of local Cattlewomen to assist in the selection. Also, they will contact the Dean of the School of Agriculture to award the scholarship at each of the five colleges.
7. CCW Scholarship Applications must be received by April 1st.
8. A student may not receive the CCW Scholarship more than once.
9. All CCW Scholarship applications shall be retained by CCW for one year.
10. Recipients must provide their social security number to the CCW Treasurer for the issuance of a check.
