vhf camfacture AGSince 1988, vhf camfacture AG has been a manufactur-er of highly precise, fast and robust CNC milling ma-chines. Possible fields of application extend from micro-machining to large-volume mould making. Since 2008, vhf has successfully taken part in the dental market with its micro-machining systems of the Impression line.

The company has its seat in Ammerbuch which is ap-proximately 30 kilometres southwest of Stuttgart. At the moment vhf has a staff of more than 170 employees and has a manufacturing capacity of 1,500 machines per year.

Distribution via resellers onlyvhf milling machines for dental technology are exclusively available via OEM partners and the specialised trade. vhf does not directly sell to end customers – hence we are not competing with you. As vhf reseller you sell the machines in the classic vhf look in your respective sales area. As OEM partner you sell the machines in your own design and can distribute them world-wide.

The OEM machines are real masters of disguise: Depending on the pur-chase quantity, OEM systems either get a different-coloured coating or even an individual housing construction. Furthermore, in an OEM partner-ship individual agreements are possible. In any case, confidentiality is very important for us in such a partnership – each OEM partner may decide whether their company is indicated on the vhf reseller list or not.

Out of the boxvhf’s dental milling machines impress by their ex-tremely compact construction. Packed in a stable carrier box you deliver the machine to your customer. The necessary accessories are also inside the box. At the customer’s place you only have to unpack every-thing and set it up – no complex installation or as-sembly works are necessary. You connect all cables of the machine and the computer, install the software and you are ready to start. And in case of service this process also works the other way round.

Made inGermany

The secret of success...With more than 25 years of experience in machine-building and the development of CAM software as well as with the competence of our partners from the vhf group, we achieve a high in-house production depth. So the complete electron-ics originate from the vhf elektronik GmbH and all milling tools are developed and produced by the vhf tools AG.

The vhf camfacture AG does not only all (technical) design works, we also manufacture the machine parts for the dental systems on vhf industrial milling machines. In our final assem-bly, the machines are built together and tested extensively. It is this high in-house production depth that makes the sensational market price of the vhf machines possible – and you as our partner can realize top profit margins though.

Service friendlinessAs our reseller you are responsible for the technical support of the end customers. In order to facilitate your work, the ma-chines are service-friendly constructed. Moreover they have some features which reduce the service effort. One example is the integrated working area sealing air concept, which pro-tects the mechanics against dust and chippings and thus also the investment of your customer. So we are able to give a 24 months bring-in warranty even on machines which mill zirco-nium every day.

Your technicians get comprehensive instruction and training courses by vhf. Of course we offer you excellent second level support and help your technicians with words and deeds in the case that they feel at a loss.

Efficient operationDue to the Direct-Mill function which is integrated in the DentalCAM software, you save plenty of time. While the calculation of the milling paths is still run-ning, the milling process will be started. All further calculations will proceed in the background.

Additionally, the machining comfort can be consid-erably increased by different degrees of automatiza-tion, for instance with an automatic blank changer for up to eight blanks. And finally a special highlight: Due to the rock-solid construction and their high manufacturing quality, you can process non-pre-cious alloys on CoCr basis with all vhf dental milling machines!

Impression K modelsMost obvious is the extremely compact design of the K models. Upon closer examination, the uncompromis-ingly rigid construction of the machines leaps to the eye. So it is ensured that you will achieve first-class results – even in extremely hard non-precious alloys on cobalt-chrome basis.

Two extremely affordable dental specialists

High-class drive and measuring units are also essential for producing perfect objects. Here, vhf relies for instance on integrated Harmonic Drive® rotary axes. On top of that an automatic axis measurement and compensation ensure a consistently high machining precision – and thus top-qual-ity results.

Also the operation is easy: With our model CAM 4-K4 Impres-sion you get an automatic tool changer with six stations which enables a complete machining of the workpiece – from the initial rough machining up to the ultimate finishing – without manual intervention of the operator. However, if it should for instance not be possible to provide compressed air, we recommend CAM 4-K3 Impression where the tools can be exchanged thanks to a convenient quick chucking device also by hand within seconds.

Your advantages

Milling machine CAM 5-S1 Impression with five simultaneously working axes and a tool change station for 16 tools.

Impression S ModelsCAM 5-S1 Impression and CAM 5-S2 Impression are dental milling machines with five simultaneously working axes. Due to the second rotary axis (B axis) with a rotation range of up to ± 30 degrees undercuts can be milled without any difficulty. Thus, these machines are a perfect addition to the very successful K models with their four axes. Advance into new dimensions

While developing this new machine series it had been im-portant for us to maintain the successful characteristics of the K models: the easy operation, the compact high-quality construction and the very favourable price! Furthermore, we wanted to offer new machining possibilities to the user and make the new machines more comfortable.

Besides the additional fifth axis, the S models distinguish themselves from the K models above all by their more pow-erful and more precise synchronous spindle and by the au-tomatic tool changer for 16 tools. In addition to the cur-rently required tools, you can equip the tool changer with replacement tools. Thus you can continue working without interruption if a tool is worn out or broken. In order to create a solid basement for the highly precise five-axis mechanics, the machine bed of the S models consists of one single mas-sive cast part. This makes these machines extremely stable with minimal exterior dimensions. Moreover, vibrations are reduced and the mechanics is optimally protected.

7Dental Milling Machines

Wet Grinding OptionThe wet grinding option opens up new machining possi-bilities to the CNC milling machines CAM 5-S1 Impression and CAM 5-S2 Impression. So materials like glass ceramics which can only be wet ground complete the list of machin-able materials.

However, you do not need a new machine for wet grinding – just an external module and appropriate holders for the glass ceramics blocks (see page 11) for the Impression S models. The wet grinding module which regulates the liq-uid circulation is connected with two hoses for supply and drainage with the machine. From three liquid nozzles that are already integrated into the spindle block, cooling liquid will be directly targeted to the tip of the tool. Thus an efficient cooling is ensured during the whole grinding pro-cess.

The external wet grinding module has an integrated mem-brane pump and a refined system for air and liquid treat-ment. It dries the extracted air and filters the cooling liq-uid from grinding particles. The regularly used dry vacuum cleaner simply has to be connected to the wet grinding module instead of to the machine.

Best surface quality – short grinding times

Due to the rigid construction of the Impression S models and the highly precise spindle you will achieve high-class results by using the cooling lubricant vhf Tec Liquid and the appropriate vhf grinding tools. For instance, it is pos-sible to grind a fully anatomic crown of the materials IPS e.max® or VITABLOCS® Mark II within approximately 25 min-utes.

For wet grinding vhf’s range of tools includes a torus grinding tool with coarser grain size for roughing, as well as a fine-grained radius grinding tool for finishing the surface after-wards. These tools are also available as starter set. Please see page 15 for more informa-tion about the grinding tools.

Liquid treatment

Air guiding system

The suction mixture of air and liquid is divided into two circuits. Due to the intelligent labyrinth air guiding system, a large part of the humidity will be separated from the extracted air. So the wet grind-ing option can be operated with a dry vacuum cleaner, there is no additional device required.

The liquid is pumped through the fine filter con-tainer where it will be separated from fine grinding particles. Afterwards the liquid will be pumped back to the CNC milling machine. The contact-less ultrasonic sensor constantly measures the liquid level and shows it on the graphics display.

DentalCAM at a glance

Well-arranged overall view of a fully equipped blank with all bars and drops. DentalCAM helps with many convenient editing functions to ensure an efficient and comfortable nesting of the blank. The different colours of the single elements show their machining status at a glance.

■ suitable for 4 axis and 5 axis simultaneous machining; thus maximum accessibility of undercuts

■ comfortable choice of materials for new blanks, respectively selection of a suitable used blank via the material archive with search and filter functions and preview im-ages

■ operation via self-explaining icons and key-board shortcuts for the most common func-tions; rotation of objects via scroll wheel

■ the automatic blank height optimization can rotate the object within the blank in such a way that the blank height will be optimally utilised by an appropriate twist of the rotary axis – so you can use flatter blanks

■ sintering bars and sintering drops can be at-tached to your objects

■ automatic recognition of prepline, divergen-cies of fits, drillings and undercuts

■ extensive auxiliary functions for placing and editing bars; additionally the bars can be ei-ther reduced or fully removed – this means a considerable reduction of reworking

■ machining strategies are adapted to any kind of object (crowns/bridges, abutments, models, temporary dentures etc.); special strategies for prepline and cavity; the kind of object and its machining quality and the machining status (to be machined now, al-ready machined, to be machined later) can be freely combined

■ fully anatomic objects or inlays will be ma-chined with an extra small tool where neces-sary

■ usage of cylindrical tools for drillings ■ grinding strategies for glass ceramics can be

added via software extension ■ a residual material detection makes it pos-

sible that an object will only be machined at such points with a smaller tool where it is necessary

■ intelligent tool changer: usage of replace-ment tools if main tool is worn out or broken is possible

■ different functions for automatic and manual determination of the milling order

■ the Direct-Mill function enables an imme-diate start of the milling process while the milling paths of other objects or the finishing processes are still being calculated

■ the blanks can be automatically marked so that you can exactly re-chuck them

■ automatic buffering of current milling out-put – very useful for instance in case of an interrupted machining process due to power failure

■ output of a manufacturing protocol in spread sheet form for a better assignment of the milled objects

■ decoupling of the CAM and CNC modules for the independent creation of new milling jobs

DentalCAM version 5This CAM software for the dental technology is especially adapted to the CNC milling machines of the Impression line. Its operation does not demand any previous knowledge due to the clearly structured user guidance. At first, the soft-ware lets you choose the required blank of different materi-als. Then you can import your earlier modelled CAD data via the standardized STL format into this open program. The software supports you with comfortable placement aids in an optimal utilisation of space on the blank.

There are just a few mouse clicks necessary until you can mill your bridgeworks. You place the bars which connect the framework to the blank. If necessary, you can also place drops for the sintering process. It is also possible to ma-chine a blank in several stages; the teeth which have al-ready been milled in a previous pass will be displayed in a different colour and establish a protected area.

Finally, the milling paths of the different tools will be cal-culated fully automatized and highly optimised. Due to the four or five axis path calculation, milling undercuts is no problem any longer. While the milling paths of other objects or the finishing processes are still being calculated, the machine already starts – thanks to the Direct-Mill func-tion – the roughing process. All relevant data concerning blanks, fixing devices and tools have been stored in the CAM software – you do not have to bother about such technical details any more. The user workflow is speed-optimised to such an extent that the whole preparation for a regular crown takes less than one minute from switching on the ma-chine up to the start of the machining process.

Thanks to new machining strategies, it is now possible to mill non-precious alloys on cobalt-chrome basis with all current vhf dental milling machines.

Thus the optimum balance between a best possible surface quality of the machined material and a preferably long endurance of the tool is ensured. All dental milling cutters are manufactured by vhf on modern six-and seven axis precision grinding centres.

Dental milling cutters from vhf consist of a super finest grain carbide mixture of Ger-man origin. It is characterized by its high edge strength with high resistance to wear and ductility at the same time. This additionally improves the workpiece qual-ity and the endurance.

Fields of applicationWith vhf dental milling tools you can machine the established dental materials. The tools are available with variously optimized cutting edge geometries and with accordingly adapted coat-ings if this is reasonable for the respective mate-rial: wax and plastics (PMMA), zirconium oxide, composites, LavaTM-Ultimate materials as well as non-precious alloys on cobalt-chrome basis. In addition we offer grinding tools for machining glass ceramics. The tools have different-col-oured stop rings, so that you can easily distin-guish them.

We make it easy for you

In the DentalCAM software developed by vhf, all machining and tool param-eters for different materials and objects are already set – the users do not have to bother about such technical details. The machine only has to be equipped with the material and the tools required for the re-spective job and there you go...

Flat ground single tooth cutterThe cutting edge of this cutter is extremely sharp and faceted. Thus the milled edges are very smooth even at high feed rates and the risk of clogging is very low – even for plastics which tend to smear.

This tool is available with a cutting edge diameter of 2.5 mm; it is exclusively used for roughing PMMA and wax. Roughing with a flat ground cutter reduces the milling time.

Radius cuttersThis special dental radius cutter has a semi-circular rounded tip. It is available with cutting edge diameters of 0.6 mm, 1.0 mm and 2.0 mm. As the 2.0 mm tool is mainly used for efficiently roughing, tools with the small diameter of 0.6 mm are mainly used for finely finishing or carving out fissures. Due to the especially long free grinding of these tools, also undercuts can be reached easily.

The tools for plastics/wax and for Lava™-Ultimate are uncoated, for zirconium ox-ide they are uncoated and coated, the tools for composites and CoCr are always coated.

Flat ground double tooth cuttersA double tooth cutter with flat face grinding and a cutting edge diameter of 1.2 mm. It is used when 90° angles have to be milled, e. g. in drillings and abut-ments.

For machining non-precious alloys on cobalt-chrome basis, this tool is available as torus cutter with a small edge radius which protects the cutting edges. So a higher endurance is guaranteed.

The tools for plastics/wax and for Lava™-Ultimate are uncoated, for zirconium ox-ide they are uncoated and coated, the tools for composites and CoCr are always coated.

Grinding tools for glass ceramicsvhf offers two tools for grinding glass ceramics with the Impression S models: a torus grinding tool with coarser grain size for roughing and a fine-grained ra-dius grinding tool for the later finishing process.

Both tools distinguish themselves by a good abrasion and break resistance, and their endurance is very long. A diamond grit with especially good binding to the shank avoids microfissures and reduces the sensitivity for thermal impact.
