Maxillary Left Posterior Segment Buccal Approach • Direct vision • Can be improved by asking patient to close slightly • Coronoid process moves posteriorly • More slack in cheek • Patient in supine position • Operator in 10 o clock position • Move head toward operator and slightly elevate the chin • Evacuator tip near occlusal surface of tooth being treated Occlusal Approach • Indirect vision • Mirror placed as far from the operative site as practical and gives lateral angle view of handpiece • Patient in supine position • Operator work at 11 o clock position • Patient head turned slightly toward operator • Use tip of evacuator to retract the cheek and tip opening just distal to tooth being treated • Evacuator tip placed behind mirror (closer to nose) • Assistant can prevent mirror from becoming wet by passing over stream of air • Finger rest on occlusal surface of right maxillary incisor or biscupid teeth Lingual approach • Direct vision • Mouth mirror to observe detail • Patient in supine position • Operator work in 9 o clock position • Patient head turned toward assistant • Finger rest ontop of operators left index finger which is placed over the occlusal surfaces of maxillary right biscuspid teeth.
