DSCC capitalizes on oil spill

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee emailed to ask supporters

today to sign a petition to "stand with President Obama to hold BPaccountable."

Petitioning the White House to keep doing what it's doing is a bit of an odd

stance, but the world of political email is always a bit detached from reality, and

petitions are a great way both of harvesting email addresses and of bringing

supporters smoothly onto the contribution page, which is where a petition

signature takes you.

Says the email:

[H]ere's a perfect example of why we must keep fighting:

Last week's deadly oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico

has unleashed an oil spill that threatens livelihoods,

pristine beaches, and wildlife along America's coast. Thespill could eclipse the damage done by the 1989 Exxon-

Valdez disaster.

The Obama administration has vowed to "keep a boot on

the throat" of BP to ensure the corporation is held

accountable for the spill. But Republican Leader Rush

Limbaugh has a different plan. He said there's no need to

clean up the spill because "the ocean will take care of this

on its own," and that oil is "natural. It's as natural as the

ocean water is."

Sign our petition. Stand with President Obama to hold BP

accountable for this disastrous spill. Rush Limbaugh is

entirely wrong: This oil will not clean itself up. Corporations

must be held accountable for their actions....

Whilst the political demagougery is understandable coming from the

demoNRats, the idiocy of the DNC's implied notion that Oil is not naturallike water is mind boggling....and laffable.... Oil is natural like water. Infact

OIL is MORE Natural more natural since oil Unlike ocean water is not

mixed w. human excrements, animal excrements, other human garbage,

and factory wastes. Where do U think Garbage overall ends up? Into the

Ocean Morons....lol

this kinda dimwitted memo results when community agitators and other

Illiterate street thugs from Chicago take over the country.

Yeah, and after he finishes bashing BP, he'll invite their Board members to

dinner at La Maison Blanche, just like all rest of the big banks, GM, AIG,

and Goldman Sachs' executives.

Obama and his collective of clown fools sat on their hands for 12 days,

because they were too busy bashing Wall Street, Arizona and Israel.

Obama did, however, send lawyers and swat teams to assess the situation

and how much the government will be able to sue BP for. The level of

dangerous incompetence and ineptitude demonstrated by Obama and hisadministration is borderline criminal.

The liberal Democrats and the Obama administration is a disgrace.

Certainly, Rahm would agree this crisis is too great to waste. As mentioned

by a poster, Obama did nothing for 12 days and then he finally speaks

about it but is doing nothing about it except what he is good at he is out

there blaming and agitating. He is not solving anything. The dork Gibbs at

the White House press conference doing his best to follow in BHO

footsteps saying weve got to keep the boot on BP s throat and urging the

fishermen effected by this to sue BP. This is how they get their agenda

advancedthey target, bully and threaten. This situation effects everybody

and all you hear from them is BP evil, BP will pay. Yes, just like every other

enemy of the libs in typical fashion anyone who stands in their way, is not a

use to them they blame. Because in their eyes they are never to blame for

anything.

I wonder if Obama, while holding BP accountable, will return the $71,000

BP donated to his campaign? He was the largest recipient of BP money so

I suppose if he does act sternly against BP it will indicate he was not

"bought" by the donation. Critics could point out, however, that the 12 day

delay he has given them so far hardly counts as stern.

Ben Smith's message is that he supports BP?

One of least political, news junkie people I know did some research on oil

spills. She told me that in the Middle East, there was a spill of 500,000

barrels of oil some years ago. Today, the water and area are just fine. Go

figure.......Rush is right...again.

Let's see if I get this straight: Obama has his jack-boot on the throat of the

evil oil company that screwed-up while trying to develop new oil supplies

that would benefit our economy. Ok... And then Obama bows his head and

apologizes to and kisses the butts of the Islamic radicals who mean to kill

us. I guess this makes sense at some level - I just haven't sunk to that level

yet.

Taking advantage of a crisis. As usual. Do people realize that BP was a

It is very telling that they would use the term "keep a boot on the throat" of

BP... We are suppose to be a nation of law and order - right and wrong,

legality and civil order. When you use "a boot on the throat" it is thuggery.

They are fully engaged in war against America and pitting classes and

corporations against one another..

The only thing that the liberal left (Democrats) aren't pushing is an

investigation into what or who caused this clamity. There are two factions

that stand to benifit from this;(1) the Chinese and Russians so that they can

drill the gulf unfettered and suck out all of our resources. and (2) the ultra

left faction in our own country and that includes Obama and his leftist

democrat cronies; they have always wanted a halt to drilling for oil by our

nation. They are fervently trying to sink our country into the pits of hell and it

looks as if they are succeeding.

How much did Obama get in campaign donations from BP? I think those

should be the first money spent in the cleanup efforts... and the distortions

of the left are beginning to become more and more obvious, from this to the

cries that the Tea Bag movement is Nazi, that all of Arizona is Nazi, and

that everyone who took part in the protests against immigration reform were

perfectly peaceful... where's the credibility? All I know is that the Obama

administration are dirty oil spill liars for saying that they were on top of this

"from day one!"

I consider myself to be a level-headed dood. But I can't help wondering....

There are those who say Bush was the mastermind in the blowing up of the

twin towers. Kook city ! We know that Obama wants to shut down the coal

industry and , via "cap and trade" impose massive new regulations (readtaxes) on all energy industries. So, I'll say it plainly. It's my opinion that

Obama is letting this oil leak spin out of controll to ligitimise his stance that

"clean" energy is mankind's solution to the bad energy policies of the past.

Thereby , another Prince William Sound disaster that he and the greenies

can point to to enforce their beliefs. Obama doesn't care a wit about the

working class "flyover" poor WHITE folks who bust their *** for a living while

getting a third of their income sucked up by fed, state and local taxes ! I

need to put a roof on my house. Can't afford it now. Just putting pots to

minimize the damage. If I could use the money I sent to the local schools in

the form of TAXES I could actually PAY for a local handiman to do it.

TAXES ROBBED me of the money to do it myself and put the prospective

handiman's prospective job out of the question !! Because of TAXES, If I hire

someone who makes the same wage as I do, I have to work at MY job for 2

hours to pay him for one ! The GVs get the rest. Land of the FREE and

home of the BRAVE ?

They forget to mention Glen Beck and Sarah Palin. Are you sure we got all

I am an oil field worker who worked on that rig months before it blow out and

also live in South Louisiana. I do not work for BP but have to say this the

blow out that happened and is causing the oil spill is Transocean's fault ( a

sweedish owned company) because the B.O.P's or blow out preventers did

not prevent the blow out. They failed and owned by transocean not BP...Yes

Bp is responsible for the clean up but not all the blame. To this day the 8

ROV's are still attempting to close the blind shear rams to shut off the flow

but they are not functioning. Please stop believing all the crap u hear on

11 people died in this accident. 11 families don't have thier loved ones any

more. These men were working dangerous jobs to provide energy to the

country from DOMESTIC sources. The dsc saw this terrible accident as an

Obama and the Democrat party have reached a new low! He wants to not

explain exactly how they planned on using this money to help Obama hold

BP accountable? BP has already said they are fully responsible, what else

there were options available to him via the military to help stop this leak that

he didn't know about until 12 days after the leak, and after he finally

addressed the issue. On BTW, where's Obama's official statement on the

attention to "blaming BP" and not to solving the oil spill problem. Obama's

only response to this disaster ("of epic proportions") has been to, uhhh,

speaking to fans and, uhh, making nasty smears of Americans who attendTea Parties.

that *with* cleanup efforts effected, it won't take 50 years ... the ocean will

Overheard at the White House Correspondance dinner saturday night

between Obama and Janet Napolitano , "hecka of a job there, Napy"

For the first week of the leak, the Obama govt. referred to it as an "oil

sheen."

Where is the Obama Administration on this? They should be held

accountable. Where is the federal emergency responce team that was

assembled ahead of time to be used in case this ever happend?? Did The

Obama Administration think that this could never happen because thier has

never before been an oil spill? Heads should roll and they cant get out of

this by blaming BP. BP may have had fault maybe not but the Federal gov

has a responsibility to help in disasters...where the f3ck are they?? Obama

needs to be impeached!

What amazes me is all the silly conspiracy theories. I think Republicansmiss "24" and are creating tales of their own. The commentators on this

poorly written and hyperbolic article have the tiniest, itsy-bitsy little brains in

the entire country. I especially love the, "my friend says," or, "I've heard," or,

"it was posted before so it must be true," dimwits. The Republican party is

dying; they have no idea which direction is up any longer. The Democrats

are now what the Republicans were 30 years ago. Yeah, if Reagan was

around today, he'd be a Democrat (he was an idiot, but he wasn't stupid

We don't even know what happened or the entire story.. The constitution

says "You are innocent until proven guilty".. Our main priority would be to

fix the damn leak.. We can find out whos accountable later..

You kind of wonder at what kind of "sign the petition" to hold companies

responsible if there was say another world trade type bombing. I can just

see it now. I guess it is true of this administration as far a businesses

Democrats are trying to outlaw oil and drilling. "boot on the throat" is a

Although this latest action by the DSCC is disgusting it is not surprising.

They will say or do anything to distract Americans from seeing who and

If Transocean Services leased the drilling platform from BP to drill for oil,

There is a difference between 9/11 and this oil spill. 9/11 killed innocents by

intentional murderers, and CAN happen again if not diligent. Oil spills are

accidents, and there is no purposeful intention to murder, but a

consequence of the accident. Exploiting the oil spill, and thereby, BP, is in

line with the thuggery of the Obama approach to governance. Exploiting

9/11 is not as pure as we would like, but does serve the purpose of

remembrance and supportive of diligence against our enemies. A significant

philosophical difference !

To the idiots who argue with Rush that the Ocean can take care of

thousands of gallons of extra oil flowing into the Gulf without any

repurcussions - GET A LIFE! And how much of your hard work and moneywill go down the tubes because your fishing business will go bankrupt in the

The gulf has been leaking oil to the tune of 150,000 tons annually for

millions of years. That's about 19,000 bbls per day. And it is handled quite

well by natural processes.

How about keeping a boot on the throat of ..say the Iranians. It's a tragidy

no doubt, but once again BP Oil, like the citizens of Arizona, or Tea Party

people seem to be the real issue for Obama and the Brown Shirts.

The Exxon Valdez was during Bush times, and this spill is Dubya's fault(first Katrina, now this). We should stand with the president as he labors to

correct these Republican wrongs.

I think we should keep fighting against the 375-500 billion dollars wasted as

a nation per year on people who CHOOSE NOT to Work called

Welfare/Medicaid. The only slick spills greater than the Valdez happens

everyday in Washington, DC......and it ain't oil!

Referring to the "could eclipse the damage done by the 1989 Exxon-Valdez

disaster" statement I'd like someone/anyone to tell me what damage exists

today from that "disaster". The answer is a resounding very little, in fact

Prince William Sound is thriving today with population levels of many of the

species higher today than before the spill.

Hopefully this will at least distract my 6 year old from asking me what it

means to 'tea bag', since the term figures so prominently in our president's

has never said that they were not responsible for the spill nor have they

After Exon Valdez, laws were enacted HOLDING owners of rigs/ships

responsible for any cleanup costs. THE LAW is already there holding BPaccountable! Why are these CON-ARTIST politicians trying to get people to

send money and sign anything!? THE LAW IS ALREADY THERE. Enforce

it. What a bunch of slimy sleazy typical U.S. politicians. ALL OF THEM are

screwing America into the ground.

Millions of gals per day of raw crude pumping into the ocean is NOT a

natural phenomenon and, yes, the environment will still 'clean it up' (I say

that loosely!) The environment will also break down platic...just not in our

lifetime. How is the Rush comment even relevant to your article? Got to get

in a political stab after already making an excellent point? It demeans your

article and your percieved intelligence. Time to quit throwing rocks and deal

with the facts folks!!

Why you would expect anything baffles me. More curious to me is why we

haven't heard ANYTHING about the supposed 11 people killed? No names,

no country of origin, no interviews with family members, NOTHING. Wonder

why that is?

Fair trials can no longer be held in the U.S., now that the President has

interfered in the judicial system. Obama has finally lost his marbles. What a

disgrace to Americans who believe in law and order.

Before they blame BP, they ought to find out if sabotage caused the

explosion and fire. The timing was too perfect. It occurred the day before the

40th anniversary of "Earth Day", which in itself was started because of an

oil spill in the Gulf in 1969. This has been the first spill in the Gulf since

then.

How much did the prevaricator in chief take from BP in campaign

contributions?
