June 3rd Moral Monday Mass Protest

    Fellow Democrats,

I ask you to support tomorrow's Moral Monday Mass Protest.

The math is simple: We can regain a majority on our County Commissioners to prevent collateral attackson our Wake County Schools. We can regain a majority in our Wake delegation to the General Assemblyto prevent unjust local bills. We could sweep every election that we face in our county, and it still willnot be enough to change the unfortunate direction of our Legislature.

We need to gain 18 more seats in the House of Representatives to vote down bills that repeal theRacial Justice Act or weaken the Jordan Lake Rules.

We need to gain 10 more seats in the Senate to prevent budget cuts that put teachers out of workwhile reducing unemployment benefits.

To gain those seats, we must win across the state, and to win across the state, we need to focus attentionon the bad legislation coming from our General Assembly. The Moral Monday protests, includingtomorrow's Moral Monday Mass Protest, serve that purpose in a unique and valuable way.

These protests are not the end game; they are merely an early salvo in what will be a longfight for North Carolina's future.

The purpose is not to get arrested. Some will choose to do so, but I advise you against it.

Nor is the purpose for Berger or Tillis to hear you. You cannot shout loud enough for them to hear youbecause they have decided that you should not be heard. They will not hear because they will not listen, not to you, not to me, not even to their own.

Wake County: our purpose for joining in these protests is that we cannot win this battlealone. We must help send a message to those who will listen--those who are sitting silentlyand have not yet realized that these policies will negatively affect them, and their families, and their businesses, and their communities. That message is simple: Now is the time forall good men and women of this great state to stand up and fight for a future that benefitsall North Carolinians. The first step is recognizing that we are not headed in that direction.

Please join the teachers, doctors, lawyers, students, parents, clergy, business owners, activists, concernedcitizens, entrepreneurs, the young, the old, and everyone else to protest the systematic dismantling of ourpublic schools, the reckless disregard for our most needy, and the methodical repeal of laws that protect

the citizens of North Carolina from craven interests.

Join us tomorrow at 5pm on the Bicentennial Mall across from the NC Legislative Buildingand help us fight for a better future.

    Thanks,

    Dan Blue III
