The Bachelor of Applied Science in Geospatial Analysis and Intelligence

(BASGAI) focuses on the use of GIS, remote sensing, positioning and survey

systems, geo-visualization, and analytic techniques to provide a well rounded

base which aligns with industry needs.

BASGAI fully supports both military and civilian credentialing programs. This

program will prepare all students, civilian and military, for multiple credential-

ing opportunities when combined with experience: NGA/GPC (PL-2), USGIF

(the Universal GEOINT Certification), GISCI (GIS Professional), and ASPRS

(Certified Photogrammetrist and Certified Remote Sensing Scientist).

The BASGAI is built upon 38-40 semester hours of liberal arts core courses (history, English, math, lab science,

and similar) which may be completed at DSU, through our partner, Mississippi Delta Community College, or

transferred from any other regionally accredited college. The BASGAI major core course of study includes 53

hours of required courses (transfer credit accepted) which include the following:

Introduction to GIS

Advanced GIS

Introduction to Digital Image Processing

Introduction to Remote Sensing

Information Extraction and Microwave Data

Geospatial Mathematics and Algorithms

Programming for GIS

Topographic Mapping

Internet GIS and Spatial Databases

Structured Analytic Techniques in Intelligence Analysis

Case Studies in Geospatial Intelligence

Trends in Spatial Technologies

Micro Computer Applications II

Students must also complete 15 semester hours of internship, at least one geography course, 12 semester hours

of geography, GIS, or remote sensing electives, and 7-9 semester hours of general electives.

While our program is online, we will frequently travel to meet students, pay for our outstanding students to join

us at meetings and conferences, and find other creative ways to engage our student body. We strive to create

opportunities which extend beyond the virtual classroom and this is why internship is a required component of

this program. Internship may be completed through a current place of employment or with one of our partners,

such as NGA or Esri, or in our labs here on campus.
