TRANSCRIPT
“I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well.” Alexander the Great Three events recently have had me thinking about excellent teachers. The first event was the Anderson County Teacher of the Year banquet. It was so exciting to be with teachers who are being recognized as being top-notch, and to see the videos each school made to honor their Teacher of the Year. We truly have some magnificent teachers in Anderson County. The speaker at the banquet was Alan Williams of WVLT. He said that the greatest teacher he ever had was his father, who was a university professor. Over the years many people have told Alan Williams what a brilliant teacher his father was, and he also was a wonderful father, unlike Alexander’s father, Philip. (Alexander felt he had to go into exile when his father married Cleopatra, a much younger woman who might produce another heir and would want Alex-ander killed. A few years later Philip was assassinated and Alexander inher-ited the throne.) The second event is an essay contest, “Why I am Thankful for My Teacher.” My English teacher has shared some of the entries with me and it is wonder-ful to hear from students how an educator has touched them positively. I am so blessed to work with educators who care deeply about their students and want to help them succeed. I had to grin - one student wrote of our coun-selor, "I have never seen anyone so hell-bent on helping students succeed" - not exactly your typical tribute but you get the idea. I am sure that all our Zeta sisters would have wonderful tributes from some of their students, too. Not all educators are as famous as Alexander’s teacher, Aristotle, but we all have a very important job. The third event is our upcoming initiation. We are so happy to welcome three outstanding women educators to Zeta! Leigh Anna McCann, Joanna Merritt, and Whitney Schmidt, we are glad to have you join us! We will be initiating these new members at Trinity United Methodist Church on April 27. Be sure to be on time because we will start promptly at 5:00. After initiation we will en-joy a delicious dinner, and I am really looking forward to hearing Robin God-dard. President’s message is continued on page 5.

President’s message continued from page 1 I greatly enjoyed having the Zeta meeting at ACCTC last month. Thank you so much for com-ing, and the generous donation to Pam Wilson's culinary arts program. She has worked ex-tremely hard to get this program going, and I am so proud of the students and all their hard work. They served almost 400 people at the ACS Teacher of the Year banquet, and it was de-lightful! I wish you all could have seen Robin Jarman's face when I showed her all the materials you had donated for her class. She was delighted! I am thrilled with Zeta’s response to our Spotlight on an Educator this year. A recent email from Sandra Pineault, Xi State Communications and Publicity Committee Chair-
man, said, "Congratulations! Your chapter has received the Highest Award for Communications
and Publicity. Your chapter newsletters have been outstanding. You have submitted articles/
pictures to the Xi State News. The members of the committee have found your chapter to be
exemplary in communicating with your chapter members and publicizing your chapter members
and activities." Many thanks to Connie for putting together our superb newsletter and to all who
have contributed to the newsletter or sent articles and pictures to both the Xi State News and
the News Sentinel. In addition, I have not heard officially, but I am sure we also will be receiving
the Maycie Award for Chapter Excellence. We earned 324 points, far more than the 275 points
necessary for the Gold Award! It is fun to see our excellence recognized!
