Principal’s message……. Welcome back to Term 2. At the end of Term 1, Delroy students and staff held a school ANZAC ceremony to honour the ANZACS (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War 1 and all the men and women who participat-ed in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world. Mr Leigh Rice SRC Co-ordinator and students also marched on ANZAC day during the holidays. Thank you to Mr Rice and students for their dedication and participation. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Athletics carnival. Thank you to Mrs McAneney and her team for the organisation and to the staff for their support. An amazing number of Delroy Dollars were earned, over 1000 tickets were recorded. NAPLAN has started. It is essential that all Year 7 and Year 9 students attempt NAPLAN to the best of their ability. Good luck everyone. Year 8 have an excellent trip to the Blue Mountains this term. To avoid disappoint-ment bring your note and money in as soon as you can. Many students are involved in sporting teams already this term. All the best to all participants. Thank you to the parents/carers who attend-ed our Term 2 Assessment Information Night. We hope our staff have assisted you to understand a little better, the require-ments for assessments this term,. Please keep in mind that we have an Assessment information night each term and we look forward to seeing you there. Thank you to the staff for the smooth start

to the term. Thank you to the parents/carers for your continued support.

DELROY CAMPUS ANNUAL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Delroy’s Annual Athletics Carnival was held on Wednesday 8th May (week 2 of this term). It was a well attended carnival with a lot of participation from the students. We saw outstanding times in the running events and some very skilled throwers and jumpers, with five records being broken on the day. Every student who participated gained points for their houses, and any student who went in four or more events are in the running for the “lucky 4” award. The day started with a 1500m race, followed by 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races. Field events included high jump, long jump, discus, javelin and shot put. This year novelty events were introduced. Students participated in 4 way tug-o-war, sack races, 3 legged races and wheel barrow races. The day finished with our fastest 8 male and 8 female competitors in a dash for cash and then relays as the finale. On assembly in week 4, the following awards will be presented:

Age champions

Dash for cash winners

Best dressed Any student who came first or second in their event, and made qualifying times / distances / heights will have the opportunity to go to

the Western Carnival. The Western Region Trials will be held at Barden Park in Dubbo on 2nd August. Mrs Peta McAneney PDHPE/Sports Co-ordinator Delroy/Carnival Organiser

House points at the end of the day were: 1st Macoolari 404 points = 2nd Parayong 282 points = 2nd Yarradarroo 282 points 4th Briganera 126 points

Girls Soccer - Bill Turner Trophy

The girls were defeated by St Johns, however, they played enthusiastically and showed great sportsmanship. Malayah Hurst, Emmaliah Fernando, TanieshaWilson, Grace Keller, Loriana Winkley, Eve Lalicz, Javarna Smith. Breanna Verrall, Abbey Dickinson, Charlotte McGrath-Nolan, Alison Smith-Romans, Grace Monson, Ella Pilon, Bianca Chapman.

U/14’s Buckley Shield Rugby League On Friday the 5th of April the U/14’s Buckley Shield rugby league team travelled to West Wyalong to play in round one of the western and state knockout competition. We left with 14 players on the bus, so meaning only one reserve. The game was played in a spirited manner by both schools and was a tight contest throughout. At the end of regulation time the scores were tied at 26 all. Dylan Ball scored 4 tries and kicked 3 conversions with Connor Gaydon also crossing for a try for Delroy. This meant that golden point would need to be played to determine who went through to round 2. Unfortunately, West Wyalong scored a try after winning a scrum against the feed after 4 minutes of extra time. It was an amazing effort from the students present with such an inexperienced team to go so close to winning.

Outstanding individual performances from Dylan Ball, Braith Carroll and Connor Gaydon. All students who

attended were excellent ambassadors for our school and should be proud of the efforts they put in on the day.

STRIVE Class Scoop…. Year 8 Report: It’s already the third week of term, and I cannot get over how quickly the year is passing by! This term is going to be no exception, with students completing work and learning in readiness for their Semester One major examinations and assessments. Year 8 Strive are undertaking a film study as part of their English unit of work ‘Yarra (to speak now)’. This will involve a study of The Sapphires, with specific focus on how filmmakers create meaning and impact upon audience understanding. The major assessment of the term will take place during class in Week 5, with students analysing a specific scene from the film. The unit will continue with an explora-tion of a range of texts, and the significance of the Aboriginal perspective. I have chosen to deliver this unit of work during Term Two as it links well to our History studies on ‘Expanding Contacts’, including the British colonisation of Australia. The History exam will also take place in Week 5 and will cover work studied throughout the semester. We will begin our next topic in Maths ; ‘Algebra 2’. This topic and our previous work on ‘Rates and Ratios’ will feature heavily in the Semester One examination in Week 6. It is important that students are regularly revising the material covered in class, and that they are consolidating and cementing their understanding through practice of the formulas and their application. Doing so should allow students to problem-solve with increased confidence. A reminder at this point, that students receive homework on a weekly basis (every Tuesday) as an opportunity to further revise their classroom learning. In Science, we have finished our study of ‘Reuse, Recycle’ with students exploring strategies to manage our non-renewable resources (see attached photos). Our new topic ‘Non-Contact Forces’ will cover content and skills that students will be assessed on in their Semester One exam in Week 6. Finishing their Cornell notes for individual lessons across all topics of the semester should prove a valuable study tool for this exam. Week 3 also saw the return of students catering afternoon tea for Homework Centre. This opportunity would not be possible without the continued support

of Woolworths Delroy Park. Homework Centre also provides students with the perfect opportunity to pre-

pare themselves for their major assessments of the term. Ms Rachel Cody
