    DISC FORMATS

Your device can play CD-Rs andCD-RWs in the CD-DA or MP3formats. The MP3 bit rate must bebetween 64 kbps and 320 kbps.Due to the difference in quality of the recording media and thequality of the recording itself, itcan occasionally happen that ahome-made CD cannot be read. This does not indicate a mal-function of the device. You have to finalise your own CD-R/RW recordings. Please remember that the tracksmust conform to the ISO 9660standard.

When MP3 CDs are played back, individual tracks may be skippedor incorrectly played back. This canbe due to the disc configuration, the encoder software or the hard-ware used for the recording.Audio CDs (CD-DA) meet the speci-fication and bear the correspon-ding logo. Copy-protected CDs donot meet this specification and donot bear the corresponding logo. These CDs can cause playbackerrors.

NoteIf the first track of a multi-sessionCD contains audio data, only audiodata will be played back even ifother data formats are recorded. If the first track contains or a multi-session CD contains MP3 data, only MP3 data will be played back, other data formats will besuppressed.

    POWER SUPPLY

Flat pin connectors A (Fig. 6):

A 8 Earth connection (minimumcross-section 2.5 mm forpositive and earth connec-tion). Connect to terminal 31(earth) of the vehicle.

A 7 Connection for +12 V ignitionvoltage. Connect to terminal15 of the vehicle if you wantthe device to switch on andoff with the ignition.

A 6 If A 6 is connected toterminal 58 of the vehicle, the brightness of the buttonsand display lighting on thedevice will be reduced whenthe vehicle lights areswitched on.

A 5 +12 V switching voltage out-put (max. 0.5 A). When thedevice is on, the switchingvoltage is on flat pin contactA 5 and serves to extend andretract the antenna, providesan operating voltage for theantenna amplifier, etc.

    A 4 +12 V operating voltage con-nection (minimum cross-sec-tion 2.5 mm2 for positive andearth connection). Connectto terminal 30 (continuouspositive) of the vehicle.

NoteYou do not have to connect A 4. Inthis case the radio must always beswitched on and off with I/O.

    INFORMATION

    RADIO RECEPTION CONDITIONS

Reception conditions in the FM range change allthe time during a journey. Mountains, buildingsor bridges can impair reception. This is especi-ally true when the station is very distant.

RADIO DATA SYSTEM (RDS)RDS is an information system for which mostFM stations transmit additional signals. WithRDS stations, the name of the station appearsas an abbreviation in the display, for exampleVIPRADIO. Additional information, such asthe frequency, time and station type (PTY) canbe displayed. RDS stations are broadcast byseveral transmitters at different frequencies(alternative frequencies). If an RDS station isselected the device automatically switches tothe alternative frequency with the bestreception, provided one is available.

ENHANCED OTHER NETWORK (EON)The EON function is an additional RDS service. If the current station does not provide trafficnews, EON switches automatically to the trafficnews of another station. After the bulletin has

finished, it switches back to the current station. The traffic news standby function (TP) must beactivated.
