An anonymous story set somewhere in an island ,where the family
comes every summer and stays in the same house which gives a
fantastic view of the glittering sea .
On one such visit, the family happens to go to the island
restaurant named ‘ocean’ ,where the waiter informs that his
cousin ,Armando has a boat which could take their son ,Sam
swimming with the dolphins .Sam gets excited to hear this and the
next day ,he goes to the sea ,waving his family goodbye.
Armando gives him a life jacket and off they go into the sea
.Armando had a special way to call the dolphins ,by whistling . A
strange sound came out as he did so .Sam tried to whistle but
unfortunately nothing happened. ’Look’,cried Armando,pointing.
’Here they come ‘.
Sam couldn’t believe his eyes . A small school of dolphin was
leaping through the water and criss crossing each other .
Armando threw a fish out of the boat and a dolphin leapt
into the air and caught it .This made Sam excited and he

dove into the water and the other dolphins swam alongside
.This was the most amazing game Sam had ever played.
This went on for a long time till Armando called him .
Sam climbed aboard and the boat was turned around .
Sam had one of the most adventurous experience of his
life and requested Armando to teach him the magical
whistle which brought the dolphins to him . Armando
finally agreed and after many failed attempts ,Sam could
come out with the perfect whistle.
The wind was now becoming stronger and a large wave
crashed over the side of the boat and threw Armando
lifeless on the floor . This made Sam nervous because all
he could see around was a large sea .Sam didn’t know
what to do .All of a sudden ,he whistled and he whistled
again and again ……… what he saw next was amazing .
About 30-40 dolphins came swimming through the waves
towards him .They pushed the boat with their heads .This
went on till the storm had passed .
Suddenly Armando cried in pain and got up .Sam told
Armando all that had happened .’Incredible ‘, cried
Armando and thanked the dolphins for all that they had
done .What a wonderful day they had !
Sam just couldn’t stop looking at the dolphins .They
vanished into the waves ,their fins shining in the rays of
the setting sun.
Now answer the following questions :
1) What did Sam do while the dolphins were pushing the
boats ?
Ans- While the dolphins were pushing the boat ,Sam
felt relieved and he went up on the deck trying to
make Armando as comfortable as possible .
2)’Thank you ,my friends .I fix the engine well now.
You can rest .
Who says this and to whom ?
Why does the speaker ask them to rest ?
Ans-The above line was spoken by Armando to the
dolphins .
The Dolphins had been pushing the boat for a long time
till the storm had passed and the sky was blue . This
probably made them very tired . So Armando asks them
to rest .
Make sentences with the following :

Lesson-
(i) The price at which we buy goods is called the Cost Price (CP). (ii) The price at which goods are sold is called the Selling Price(SP). (iii) When the SP is greater than CP, there is Profit or Gain.
SP > CP → Profit = SP – CP (iv) When the SP is less than CP, there is Loss.
SP < CP → Loss = CP – SP
Calculation of selling price and cost price
(v) SP = CP + Profit
(vi) SP = CP - Loss
(vii) CP = SP - Profit
(viii) CP = SP + Loss
1. A shopkeeper buys a football for ₹ 150 and sells it at ₹ 210.
What is his profit or loss? Solution:
Cost Price of football = ₹ 150
Selling Price of football = ₹ 210
210 > 150
As, S.P. > C.P.
So, he makes a profit
Profit = S.P. - C.P.
= ₹ (210 - 150)
= ₹ 60.
2. A merchant bought a table fan for ₹ 575 and sold for ₹ 500.
Find the loss of the merchant in the transaction?
Solution:
Cost Price of the table fan = ₹ 575
Selling Price of the table fan = ₹ 500
Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price
= ₹ (575 - 500)
= ₹ 75
Therefore, loss of the merchant is ₹ 75.
3.Maria sold a bicycle for ₹ 24900 at a profit of ₹ 600. Find the
price at which she bought it.
Solution:
Selling Price = ₹ 24900
Profit = ₹ 600
Cost Price = Selling Price – Profit
Cost Price = ₹ (24900 – 600)
= ₹24300
Therefore, Maria bought it at ₹ 24300.
Answer: ₹ 24300
4.Ron has a cycle worth ₹ 1800 and he wants to sell it at a
profit of ₹ 220. What should the selling price be?
Solution: Cost Price = ₹ 1800 Profit = ₹ 220
Selling Price = Cost Price + Profit Selling Price = ₹1800 + ₹220
= ₹ 2020 Selling price of the cycle = ₹ 2020 5. Diane sold a book worth ₹ 850 at a loss of ₹ 180. Find the selling price of the book. Solution: Cost Price = ₹ 850 Loss = ₹ 180 Since, Selling Price = Cost Price - Loss Selling Price = ₹850 - ₹180
= ₹ 670 Therefore, selling price of the book = ₹ 670 Answers: ₹ 670
6. A wrist watch was sold for ₹ 2050 at a loss of ₹ 30. What was the Cost price? Solution: Selling Price of the watch = ₹ 2050 Loss = ₹ 30 Now, C.P = S.P + Loss Cost Price of the watch = ₹2050 + ₹ 30 = ₹ 2080

WILDLIFE
The animals that live in the Prairies have adapted themselves to
the semi-arid (dry; with little rain) climate. They can with stand
very hot summers and freezing cold winters. Some of them are
bison, prairie dogs, prairie chicken, coyote, etc.
Prairie dogs bison
ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES
The Prairies are intensively cultivated. Farmers produce enough
wheat for the whole country and also for export. That is why
the Prairies are also called the Wheat Basket of the World.
Other crops grown here are barley, rye, oats, etc.
The Prairies also have meat – packing factories, dairy farms and
flour mills.
Many minerals like lignite coal, mineral oil, natural gas, gold,
silver and potash are mined here. It led to the development of
ore-crushing factories and oil refineries.
An extensive network of roads, railways and canals coupled
with industries have made the Prairies one of the most
industrialized regions in the world.
LIFE OF THE PEOPLE
European settlers converted these huge grasslands into
farmlands. Farmers live with their families and some workers or
helpers on the farms in homesteads (a house built on a farm
with buildings around it).
The entire farm work of ploughing, sowing, harvesting,
threshing and winnowing and storing of food grains is done by
machines. Food grains are stored in silos (a tall tower or pit on
a farm used to store grain).
The open land towards the west is hilly. In this region animals
are reared on large open areas called ranches.
Cattle is reared mainly for meat and milk.
