Is it Easter Yet?
Are you looking forward to Easter? It is a definite high point in the life of the Church! After
all of the drama and tragedy of Jesus’ Passion, the darkness is shattered on Easter morn, the power of God cancels sin and death, raising the dead Christ to life! Life out of death:
God’s amazing gospel. For the Christian, we get to Easter joy only by way of seven weeks, seven somber weeks of Lent, so we still have several weeks before Easter joy.
Isn’t that just the way life unfolds sometimes? It seems like the good stuff is always
somewhere in the future and why is it so difficult getting to the future? Why can’t we just have the good stuff here and now without all the hard stuff? That would be fine with me!
I wish life was always easy and joyful, but it is not.
The good news however is that joy, true joy, the joy of the Lord joy, is that which can
never be taken away from us, and the joy of the Lord is our strength. It is the strength of experiencing true joy that gets us through the tough times. “Jesus, for the sake of the joy
that was set before him endured the cross” as God’s will. Jesus was ready to trade that cup of sorrow in as he prayed to God the Father in Gethsemane, but he did not. Jesus did
not avoid the suffering that obtained salvation and eternity for us; deliverance from darkness and everlasting light – oh, joy!
The seven weeks of Lent are not meant to be happy days or happy daze. Lent is a time
for sober reflection and repentance. Lent is a time when many Christians around the world fast and/or abstain from certain things, foods, or habits, or activities. Self-denial is a
spiritual discipline to remind us of all that Christ gave up on our behalf. Lent is not a season of putting on guilt, but it is a season to consider the great price our Lord paid for
the joy that was set before him. It is only through the shadows of Lent that we truly
discern the cross of Christ and the joy that we find in him.
In Christ’s Love

One Great Hour of Sharing
Our March - April Mission
Emphasis
“We proclaim Christ crucified.” —1 Cor. 1:23
Isaiah 58 describes a new kind of fast, not to give up
bread but to share it. Isaiah calls us to “loose the bonds of injustice,” to “let the oppressed go free,” to
“share bread with the hungry” and to “invite the homeless poor into our homes.” We are called to offer
help to those in need and restoration to those who have been broken down. One way we answer this call
is through our gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing.
The Andes Central School travel club will be traveling to
Houston over their spring break for work on hurricane
clean- up efforts. Our collection of cleaning supplies for that effort may be delivered to Houston for their use in clean up.
(If not, the materials collected will be assembled for Church World Service Kits in April.) Additionally we have provided
them with monetary support totaling $1000.00 to buy the needed supplies while they are there working. We look
forward to hearing about their trip when they return.
Thanks to those who supported the Blanket Plus mission over the last month and those that supported the Super Bowl sub and chili sale.
The next mission committee meeting is scheduled for April 4, 2018 at 4:30. All
are welcome!

Missing Pennies for Mission
Pennies!
The “Mile of Pennies” jar would like to jingle with the
joyous sounds of help for our friends and neighbors throughout the world. Please look through your pockets,
purses, drawers and car floors and bring your coins in to the “Mile of Pennies” jar in the narthex. The money
collected from this jar goes toward the “Fellowship of the Least Coin.” This supports our extra-mile mission giving
with our brothers and sisters around the globe. Please see the pamphlet in the narthex or visit http://www.flc.net.ph/
if you want to know more about this offering. Prayer cards are available in the memorial hospitality room rack.

The Kirk Thrift Shoppe Thank You Everyone for all the wonderful donations. We are blessed to have such caring and generous church and community members. Since income tax time is

three bins there. Many thanks also to all the
volunteers who continue to make this all possible! It is a lot of work

Let every dawn of morning be to you as
the beginning of life, and every setting sun
be to you as its close.
Then let every one of these short lives leave its sure record of
some kindly thing done for others, some goodly strength or knowledge gained for
yourself.

To Our Church Friends,
All the children and staff at Little
Inspirations Preschool would like to say “Thank You!” for the treat bags. We so
appreciated the thoughtfulness.
Your Friends
First Presbyterian Church,
I would like to thank you all very much for
my care package prior to winter break. It
was amazing to receive the package knowing I am still thought of back home!
I hope all is well!
Thank you again. Connor Gioffe
We'd like to say thank you for the kind expressions of sympathy we've received.
The caring concern of everyone in our church is very much appreciated.
Blessings to each of you – Don and Bonnie Fleming
I would like to thank the Deacons and PW
for all the nice cards they send me. When you can't get out and about mail is a
highlight of my day. Gert Mostert
Thank you to all you participated in the Session Sub Sale fundraiser. A profit of
$181.50 goes to our General Operating expenses.
Thank you so much to the Session for the fruit basket, and the Deacons for the
flowers and the congregation for all the
cards and support we received with Bill’s passing.
We feel really blessed to have such a caring church family!
Love and Peace,
Al and Barb
