In modern times, explosive growth of the population and increasing rates of vehicle ownership in the city has intensified traffic congestion and air pollution caused by emission. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was created by the Government of India and Delhi City to construct and operate the metro system. A master plan for the metro network of eight lines totaling 245 km was drawn up to be implemented by 2021. In September 1996, the Government of India approved Phase 1 of the project for construction of the priority rail corridor. With no pause after the first phase, the Government sanctioned Phase 2 project in 2006 toward hosting of Commonwealth Games in October 2010. Services Provided As the lead consultant of the consortium appointed by DMRC, OC Global provided the following services: Enhance the detailed project reports Review tender documents and assist in tender evaluation Review all design works Manage contracts of all packages Supervise and monitor the works of all contractors, design consultants, system suppliers and manufactures Ensure safety at all worksites Mitigate social & environmental impact Coordinate activities of all contractors Verify testing & commissioning and trial operations of entire systems Plan operations and maintenance Provide training and technology transfers tothe DMRC personnel Actual Project Works The Phase I of the project consisted of construction of 3 corridors of heavy rail urban transport system to accommodate 2.2 million commuter trips per day and result in 2,400 less buses on the roads and a 50% reduction in the pollution level. The Phase 2, another six radiating lines (three for extension of the existing lines) from the city center to outer Delhi were constructed. The extended metro network connects the different city areas including the suburbs. Phase I and Phase 2 are fully operational since January 2013. Today, land prices surrounding the metro showremarkable growth and developers property investment becomes significant, taking advantage of great accessibility. Delhi Metro is a stunning example of successful development and often called as a symbol of India-Japan partnership. Problem Addressed by the Project

Actual Project Works

The Phase I of the project consisted ofconstruction of 3 corridors of heavy railurban transport system to accommodate2.2 million commuter trips per day andresult in 2,400 less buses on the roadsand a 50% reduction in the pollution level.

The Phase 2, another six radiating lines(three for extension of the existing lines)from the city center to outer Delhi wereconstructed. The extended metro networkconnects the different city areas includingthe suburbs. Phase I and Phase 2 arefully operational since January 2013.
