Public Health Update• COVID spreads easily from person to person
through airborne respiratory droplets of varying sizes.
• Strong evidence exists showing that the disease can spread through:
§ Large droplets, such as those in a cough or sneeze
§ Very small droplets in the air, such as those produced when singing or speaking (especially when speaking loudly or yelling).
![Page 25: DELAWARE'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19...Press Briefing June 2, 2020 DELAWARE'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19 de.gov/coronavirus 9,685 positive cases since first case confirmed on March 11, 2020 373](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042320/5f0a68797e708231d42b7cba/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
• CDC published article from research in Wuhan showing these very small airborne particles can travel up to 13 feet away from the infected person.
• Additionally, they can stay suspended in the air for a long period of time and potentially infect someone who breathes in that air, even up to three-hours later.
Public Health Update

others, facing away from the audience
OR§ Stand behind a physical barrier or
partition, such as a sneeze guard.

• In-person choral singing is not currently a recommended activity.
§ Use recorded music.

• If face coverings are difficult to wear during an activity, consider using face shields in addition to distancing as an alternative.
• If face coverings are available but not used, the reader, speaker, or singer must put the face covering back on and use hand sanitizer immediately after speaking, reading, or singing.
