The present map shows the damaged area near the village of El Oro, eastern SPAIN. Thethematic layer, assessing the delineation of the event and its grading, has been created byvisual interpretation of post-event image (RapidEye-1, acquired on 05/07/2012, 6.5 mresolution), used as background imagery on the map. Another image was used to analyzethe areas covered by clouds, on the eastern part of the area of interest (Deimos-1, acquiredon 02/07/2012, 20 m resolution).The areas occluded by clouds in both images are displayedas "Clouds" in the legend and they have not been analyzed.The satellite images have been radiometrically enhanced and georeferenced.The estimated geometric accuracy of this product is 12.5 m CE90 or better, from nativepositional accuracy of the background satellite image.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85% or better, as the analysis techniquehas been validated by several in field validation campaigns.Map produced on 06/07/2012 by SIRS under contract 257219 with the EuropeanCommission. The products elaborated in the framework of current mapping in rush mode activation arerealized to the best of our ability, within a very short time frame during a crisis, optimising theavailable data and information. All geographic information has limitations due to scale,resolution, date and interpretation of the original data sources. The products are compliantwith GIO-EMS RUSH Product Portfolio specifications.
No restrictions apply on the publication of the map.Delivery formats are GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, GeoJPEG and vectors (shapefiles and KMLformats).
Due to the long drought and the high temperatures in Spain and especially in theMediterranean area several forest fires have taken place in the country since June 29th2012. Particularly serious was the situaton near the city of Valencia. This is a grading map ofthe burnt area near the village of El Oro, around 30 km to the south-west of Valencia onSpain's eastern coast.The core users of the map are Civil Protection authorities involved in operations in the field.The aim of the map production is to support the emergency response activities.
