The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced recalls of 5.6 million dehumidifiers

made by overseas manufacturers Gree and Midea and sold under many popular retail brand names.

Units have been recalled because of dangerous faulty operation. Hundreds of these units have caught

fire and resulted in $24 million in damage to homes and are a real threat to homes and families.

If you have a dehumidifier purchased between Jan. 2005 and Aug. 2013, it is imperative that you

check to see if your unit has been recalled.

Please take these precautionary steps:

1. LOCATE THE MODEL NUMBER ON YOUR UNIT

This will typically be found on the back, side or front of the unit on a name plate sticker.

2. CHECK IF YOUR MODEL IS AFFECTED (Recalled models listed on back)

Search for recalled units on CPSC.GOV, or verify your unit’s brand name and model at

www.greedehumidifierrecall.com or www.recallverification.com. You can also call the Gree

hotline at 1-866-853-2802 or Midea Hotline at 1-800-600-3055 for further information.

3. IF YOUR UNIT IS ON THE LIST, UNPLUG IT IMMEDIATELY.

Unplugging your recalled unit is the only way to ensure that it won’t cause damage to your home.

4. SEE IF YOUR UNIT IS ELIGIBLE FOR A REFUND If your unit is part of either recall you will be asked to enter your contact information and be

sent a return kit. Follow the steps laid out in the return kit to receive any eligible refund.

5. CHECK WITH YOUR CITY OR TOWN ABOUT PROPER DISPOSAL Go online to your city or town’s website to review the steps necessary for proper recalled unit

disposal. You may be required to purchase a sticker and/or drop off the unit at a specific location.
