• Use of the Product

Various metal spurs and spur chains, worn on boots as part of ceremonial wear. Figure 1 shows a spur and chain fitted to cavalry boot.

3. PRODUCT DESIGN

a. Product Description

5.1 Design and assembly of all items

• The design, assembly, textures and shades of all items are to be strictly in accordance with that of the guiding Standard Pattern, except those caused through the effects of natural wear and tear and ageing

• See Data Sheets in Part 3 for details

4. PACKAGING AND LABELLING REQUIREMENTS

a. Packaging and package labelling shall be as detailed in the contract conditions. b. Items shall be packaged in a way to prevent damage during transit and storage. c. The items are to be individually wrapped and sealed in a clear polythene bag. d. Under no circumstances should the contractor’s name, logo or trademark appear on

the items or packaging.

• Brass to BS EN 1982 - CC750S or an alternative approved by Defence Clothing

Spigot • Stainless steel rod to BS EN 10088-3 - 1.4305 or an alternative approved by Defence Clothing

Spigot wire rings

• Cold drawn spring steel wire, diameter 1mm, to BS EN 10270-1 - SM-1,00

MANUFACTURING INFORMATION • The design is to be as the Standard Pattern

• The spigot is detailed at Figure 2

• The spur body is to be drilled, tapped and counter bored centrally to take the spigot, detailed at Figure 2

• Tapped M6 x 1 x 12mm deep

• Counter bore to be Ø7.5 x 3mm deep

• The threaded spigot and spur body are to be secured with thread locking compound

• The rivet holding the rowel is to be well blended into the spur body with minimal evidence of the rivet showing

• The spigot is to be a tight fit with the associated spur housing NSN: 8465-99-132-6623, which is incorporated into the boot heel

• The rowel is to have a radial leaf design as per the Standard Pattern

• The rowel is to rotate freely

• The spur body and rowel are to be brightly polished

• The studs are to be threaded M5 x 0.8

• The threaded studs are to be secured to the spur body with thread locking compound

• The studs are to be finished flush with the spur body and polished smooth

• Buckle attachment links are to be cut and formed from 0.5mm thick stainless steel sheet as per the Standard Pattern

• The buckle is to hinge and rotate freely

• The spur body and buckle assembly are to be brightly polished
