1)The turbo charger is an amazing piece of machinery which is used to

boost an engine's horsepower without significantly increasing its weight.

2)A turbocharger is a device fitted to internal combustion engines to increase

    power.

    3) The turbocharger is simply a device to force more air into the engine.

4)Turbochargers come in many different sizes. Many have been used as the basis

for home made gas turbine engines.

    5) The turbocharger uses the exhaust flow from the engine to spin a turbine,

which in turn spins an air pump.

    4) The first turbocharged automobile engines came from General Motors

    in 1962.

    1) The turbocharger was invented by Swiss engineer Alfred Bchi, in

    1905 .

    3) In 1918, General Electric engineer intalled a turbo to V12Liberty

    aircraft engine.

    In an internal combustion engine

where there is a need to increase the

    power, a turbocharger comes in

    application. In order to accomplish

    this, the turbocharger increases the

mass flow rate of air entering the

engine by the turbine action driven by

its exhaust. It is widely applied in

    aircrafts, automobiles and

motorcycles.1)It consistsofa turbine and acompressoron a sharedshaft

    3) When the exhaust gasses enter, thefan rotates which drives a compressor.

4)Air is then squeezed by the

    compressor before being delivered to

    the engine.

    5) Science air is compressed, the

engine could then take in greateramounts of air to the cylinders. The

normal air pressure is at 14.7 psi and

there is a limit to the pressure

    difference across the intake valves

resulting in a limited air mass flow

    rate.

6)Due to greater amount of air entered more fuel is burned which ultimately leads to increase in

    power and torque.

1)Normalize Air Supply: It means keeping air supply the same as is normal for anaturally aspirated engine at sea level. When engines operate at altitudes above sea level, the airbecomes less dense, and the turbocharger is needed gather in more of the thinner air. If we don'tnormalize, we must decrease fuel settings as the air becomes less dense to avoid overfueling theengine. Thus, normalizing allows engines to develop normal horsepower over abroad range ofaltitudes.

2)BoostAir Supply: The second function of a turbocharger is boosting air supply togive the engine more than normal oxygen. This enables increased fuel settings while stillproviding better combustion and quieter exhaust. Improved combustion means not only better

fuel economy, but also cleaner exhaust emissions.

    a) Turbochargers are most commonly used on gasoline

engines in high-performance automobiles and diesel engines

in transportation and other industrial equipment.

    b) It helps in gaining more power and increase engine efficiency without

    enlarging the powerplant.

    c) Mechanical andthermal efficiencies areimproveddueto less

cylinders, greater airsupply anduseofexhaust gasesrespectively.d) Less moving parts as compared to other engines.

1)Turbochargers are still the most cost- effective way to increasehorsepower.

2)Turbochargers are good for high end hp.

3)A turbocharger is probably the most effective way to increase theperformance of a given displacement engine, and will yield the highest

specific output and best power to weight ratio.
