DEFINITION: The application of diverse manual

techniques of touch and stroking to muscles and soft tissue to achieve relaxation and to improve the client's well-being.

Deep Tissue Manipulation also known as

Deep Tissue Massage.

INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Apply massage oil onto the muscle groups in need of manipulation.

When performing a deep-tissue massage, only those areas of concern are treated.

2. Using quick, vigorous strokes of your fingers, apply firm pressure to the specific muscles.

3. Force bodily imbalances and impurities toward the liver to be used as energy, or toward the kidneys to be expelled. Stress leads to stiff and sore muscles, which cause chemical disturbances. The deep penetration of sore muscles provides relief for tension, pain and even achy feet.

4. Discover the client's level of pain. Deep muscle manipulation causes some discomfort, but the relief is well worth the pain. For maximum results, massage the muscle area past the point of discomfort.

5. Start the massage slowly and gently, working up to maximum pressure. Use the full hand, the heels, and the fingertips depending on what area you are massaging. For the deepest muscle manipulation, use your thumbs.

BENEFITS : Unlike classic massage therapy, which is

used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

Chronic pain Limited mobility

Recovery from injuries Carpal tunnel syndrome

Postural problems Fibromyalgia
