The video starts with a shot of the band walking through some woods. The light is natural, and there is digetic sound of birdsong. There is a bright lens flare, which makes it look slightly surreal.

Then it shows a close up of the singer's face, with the rest of the band behind him. The camera tracks backwards as he walks along. Then it shows a shot from behind him. The light is still natural. The camera follows him as he walks to the wall and starts to climb it. The next shot is from the other side of the wall, showing his face. He leans on the wall, and starts singing. Then a close up is shown of a girl's eyes, with bright light. It fades to white, then shows the rest of the band still in the woods. First it shows a shot of them from the front, then from the side, both with lens flares, the second more dramatic than the first. The next shot shows the singer again, still leaning on the wall and singing. Then there is an out of focus shot of a large garden with a big house in the background, and girls in white dresses. There is a girl on a trampoline, and the shot then fades to a closer, still out of focus, shot of her feet. Then there is another shot of the singer, still in the same place and singing, and he starts to climb over the wall. The shot changes to a back view of him jumping over the wall. Next, the camera pans across the house and garden, in focus this time. The girls are all wearing white dresses, and look like they are in their late teens or early twenties, but are playing children's games.

There is a close up of some girls having a picnic/tea party, then an out of focus close up of a girl's hair and face, and tea being poured. Most of these shots have lens flares. The next shot is focused on the side of an old building, but when the singer comes into view the focus shifts onto him. The shot is from behind, but then changes to a close up of the side of his face, with a very bright lens flare. It moves back to a shot from behind, but the camera is focused on what's happening in front of him, giving the impression that this event is more important. Two girls are walking together, one pulling the other along by her arm.

The next shot is from inside the building, showing two girls stood next to each other outside the closed doors. As the camera tracks in towards them, one of the doors starts to open. This creates suspense, and also adds to the surreal feel, as no one is touching the door. It fades to white, and when it fades back in, both doors are open, and the

girls are walking towards the camera, one girl is pulling the other along by her arm, again. The girl in front looks angry, and the other one isn't showing any facial expression. Next it shows another close up of the picnic, with a chess set closest to the camera, but the camera is focused on a book on the lap of another girl. The camera is slightly shaky. Then it shows a close up of the eyes of the girl who is reading, from the side of her face. The next shot is from inside the building again, the doors are still open, and the band are walking through the doorway. The singer is still at the front, giving the impression that he is most important. There is another lens flare as they walk through the door. The hallway is lit by the natural light from outside.

Then there is another brightly lit close up of a girl's eye. Then there is a close up of the singer's face, from a side/back angle. The background is dark, and he turns his face away from the camera slightly as he opens a door. The focus moves from his face to the inside of the room, showing that the event inside is more important. There are two girls stood in a dark room, lit up by the light from a window next to them. One girl is wearing the same white dress that all of the other girls are wearing, and she is doing her hair. The other girl has dark skin, and is wearing what looks like a white leotard. Her dress is hanging over the back of a chair. The uniform that the girls are all wearing also adds to the surreal feel of the video. Then there is a close up of the girls' faces, with a bright lens flare from the window, they are smiling and whispering to each other. The next shot shows the band still in the hallway, the singer is at the front, and he is singing. Then there's another shot of the two girls, out of focus, and it changes back to the

Page 4: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

band. They look confused by what is happening, which give s the idea that it's not the video that is surreal, it is just the place that they are in. The shot moves back to the two girls, then back to the band again. This could be emphasising the difference between the girls and the band. There's a shot of one of the girls in the garden, then back to the band, then back to the girls in the room. The darker skinned girl looks up and notices the band. The changes between shots are used to show what is happening in the whole area. The band continue to walk through the building, the singer is always at the front, and he's always singing. He opens another door. There are two girls with the same white dresses sat at a piano, with a big mirror on the wall. The camera turns to the mirror to show what is happening in the room.

This is a more interesting view than just looking into the room. There are two girls sat on a white rug, also in the same dresses. The camera moves towards the window with bright light coming through it. The next shot is of the band in the hallway, then back to the room. As the camera pans around the room, one of the girls at the piano pushes some paper off the top of the piano, and it shows that one of the girls on the piano is holding an apple. The shot moves back to the band, which adds suspense, as the person watching can see that something is going to happen, but they can't tell what, as the video is too surreal to work out what could happen next. The shot moves back to the room. One of the girls on the floor is holding the apple on top of her head, the other is moving away towards the camera, with her hands behind her back. Her face isn't on visible, which hides her expression, and adds a

Page 5: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

sense of mystery. Anyone who knows the story of William Tell will be able to guess what could happen next. The girl walking towards the camera turns around, so that the watcher can see the gun behind her back. The girl sat on the rug doesn't look scared, which is confusing, as she is about to have a gun pointed at her head.

The shot moves back to the piano, the girl who pushed the paper off it is still stood up, and there is a dramatic lens flare from the window. Another shot of the band, then a close up of a girl's blonde curly hair, moving around, and a bit of her face, then back to the band. This shot is from the side of the singer's face, showing the front half of his face, and the dark wall next to him. This adds a bit of variation to the shots used, to make the video more interesting. The next shot shows a close up of an old fashioned clock face, with a reflection in it. This angle makes it more interesting than if it just showed the room. The reflection shows the shape of a girl with her arms above her head.

Page 6: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

Another shot of the side of the singer's face, then back to the first room with the two girls, slightly out of focus. These shots show what's happening in other places around the building and gardens. The out of focus shots and lens flares could be used to make the place seem as if it is part of a dream. Another shot of the band, stood in a line next to a wall, with the singer in front about to open another door. They look slightly scared, and as if they don't want to be seen. It seems as if they have realised that something bad is going to happen. The singer opens the door, showing a wooden wall with a fireplace. The door moves slowly, adding to the suspense. Three girls, still in the same dresses, are walking in circles around a girl who is on her knees and blindfolded. The girls all seem to be playing children's games, at first. One of the girls picks up a strand of the hair of the kneeling down girl. The shot moves back to the band, again adding to the suspense. The camera moves back to the girls, and the girl cuts the strand of hair that she was holding, there is another bright lens flare. This seems like some kind of ritual, which makes the video more surreal and slightly spooky.

Page 7: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

The next shot is back outside, showing the girl on the trampoline again. Then another shot of the empty hallway with the front doors still open. Then another brightly lit close up of a girl's eye. Then a close up of a book in a girl's hands. Then back to the two girls whispering to each other. Then back to the singer. Again, this shows what is happening around the building and gardens, and adds suspense because it's not showing what's happening next in the rooms that have been shown. The shot of the singer shows his face and shoulders, he's leaning against a wall, and everything to his left is dark. He's singing. The shot fades to white. There is a close up of a girl's lips, then a cup of tea, with the picnic/tea party in the background, again showing what's happening outside. The changes between shots and the close ups add to the dream-like feel of the video. Also, the close ups don't show exactly what's happening around the people, which adds to the sense of mystery. The next shot shows the girl with the apple on her head, then moves back to the singer looking through the door. The fast movement between shots also adds to the suspense. The next shot is of the other room, with the three girls in a circle, and one girl passes the scissors to the girl next to her. The singer pushes open another door, not so slowly this time, showing a bright room with two girls in it. One girl is sat crying, and the other girl is hitting her with a large piece of wood.

Page 8: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

The sudden fast movement gives a sense of panic. The shot moves briefly to the band in the doorway, they look scared, and the singer moves back slightly. There's another shot of the girls, then a close up of the crying girl's face, then back to a long shot of them, then back to the band, then back to the girls. The fast movements show the fear and panic that the band are currently feeling. The girl's knees are bleeding, but she isn't doing anything do defend herself. The next shot shows the girl on the rug lying dead on the floor, with the apple next to her, the shot pans up to show the girl holding the gun, looking calmly at the other girl's body.

Page 9: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

Then there is a shot of the girl holding the piece of wood, leaning down and wiping a bit of the other girl's blood onto her finger, then licking it. The girl sat down just looks at her, still crying. The shot briefly moves to the band, then back to the girls. Both girls look up at the band. A lens flare covers the face of the crying girl, and the other girl smiles. The smile makes her look as if she's planning to hurt them.

There's another shot of the band. The singer shakes his head and starts to run a cross the room, followed by the band. This shows their fear of the girls in this place. The next shots show each of the girls that were shown before, all stopping whatever they were doing and looking up. This adds suspense and fear about what is going to happen next. Then the band run out of the building. The shot is from the end of the drive, so that the band are running towards the camera. One of them falls over, and as soon as this happens the shot changes, which adds

Page 10: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

suspense because you can't see what's happened to him.

The next shot is a side mid shot of the band running past, the camera is still until the last person goes past, and then it pans across to follow him. Then it shows a shot from behind, with them running away.

The final shot is very short, of the band out of breath. The camera is focused on the singer, as he is the most important. He is looking directly at the camera, and the camera is moving slightly, which makes the watcher feel as if they are there with the band.

Page 11: Deconstruction - Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground

This shot is very short, then it goes black.
