Sindh Government has taken a great initiative of announcing a uniform admission policy of the five best public medical universities of Sindh. Now, a candidate can apply (according to tagged district allocation) on a single form and appear in one entrance test only which would save candidate’s time, effort and money.

This year, the admission process will be conducted by Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. Candidates are required to submit the file/ envelope containing the filled application form and the required documents at the designated courier centers. Candidates should be very careful regarding their tagged district.

This prospectus is an introduction to the various government medical universities in the Sindh, Pakistan. It contains rules and regulation concerning administration, admissions and examinations etc.

1. The rules in this prospectus shall apply to all the Sindh government medical universities and affiliated colleges namely:

• Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi• Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Karachi• Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro• Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW),

Shaheed Benazirabad• Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana• Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College (SMBBMC), Lyari Karachi

2. All the above institutions after 05 year and 04 year study lead to MBBS and BDS Degree respectively of the university.

3. There is co-education in all the universities except in PUMHS, Shaheed Benazirabad where only females are admitted.

4. One or more hospitals are attached to each medical university for imparting clinical teaching to the students. The Clinical Professors/Associate Professors/Assistant Professors of the university are also consultants to the attached teaching hospitals.

5. Students on the role of these universities shall be bound to abide rules and regulations as laid down in this prospectus.

It is indeed a pleasure for me to write this message for the joint Prospectus of centralized MBBS/BDS Admissions policy for Academic Session of First Professional MBBS year 2017-18 at all public sector universities/colleges of Sindh Province.

There are exciting advances in medical and dental research and practice and the facilities and curriculum is positioned to incorporate new ideas and new technology into our educational program.

Academic environment of these universities/medical colleges enables the student to educate and to become outstanding healthcare professionals; patients can believe in, scientist’s capable to innovative discoveries and inventions and global citizens ready to serve the society.

The prime objective of Health Department Govt of Sindh is:• To provide quality medical education and caring for ailing humanity

DOW UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

INTRODUCTION

Dow Medical College (DMC) was started in 1945, by converting the old medical school of Hyderabad, which was originally started by Dr. Homstead in 1881. Subsequently the College was shifted to function in old N.J.V. High School Building, Karachi in the beginning of 1946. Sir Hugh Dow, the then Governor of Sindh laid the foundation stone of this institution, hence it was named after him.

In 1951, the College was affiliated to Karachi University. In December 2003, Dow University of Health Sciences was established with only (3) three constituent institutes:

• Dow Medical College (DMC)• Sindh Medical College (SMC)• Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases (OICD)

Sixty four (64) new establishments including separate Institutes and Departments have been established to achieve its Vision, Mission and Goals.

To provide leadership in creating and imparting knowledge through excellence in research and education with the aim to provide cost effective, contextually

relevant and quality community services through its faculty, staff and graduates,

with continuous efforts for improvement through reflection and learning.

Dow Medical College (DMC)

A full-fledged institution imparting both undergraduate and postgraduate studies and has all the departments manned by the qualified and experienced staff and is one of the largest medical institutions in the country.

Our MBBS Program provides an innovative and integrated curriculum to support training and development as a medical professional and to prepare students in becoming one of the best generations of medical leaders.

Semester system has been implemented from first year to final year MBBS in Dow Medical College. The course work of 5 years has been divided in 10 semesters. A semester examination is conducted after each semester and modular and mid term examinations are held for regular assessment of the students.

Dow Medical College has Civil Hospital, Karachi, associated with it as its teaching hospital. This hospital has a total bed strength of 2300, making it the largest clinical teaching hospital in the province. The students of Dow Medical College receive their clinical training in this hospital which has departments of almost all Medical and Surgical specialties with well qualified faculty.

Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences was established in year 2006 to increase the human resource & provision of excellent community dental health care. Envision to be the center of excellence for dental education, it offers following Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs:

Undergraduate Programs:• BDS - 4 years • BS - Dental Care Professionals - 4 yearsPost-Graduate Programs:• MDS (Masters of Dental Surgery) - 4 years• MSc (Masters of Science)- Oral Health Sciences - 2 years• FCPS - 4 yearsThe institute is recognized by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC). The institute has a smooth running clinical dental OPDs and the Central Store for the provision of materials to the basic and clinical departments.

Dow Dental College was established in November 2012 at Dow Medical College campus.

The college is recognized and registered with PMDC for Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) four years program. Dow Dental College has two sections academic and clinical/ dental OPD. Currently 150 students are enrolled in the college. Civil Hospital, an allied institute of the college, imparts clinical teaching to the students.

Since its inception, number of patients have been seen in Dow Dental College with provision of treatments ranging from simple extraction, comprehensive surgical treatment in Civil Hospital, Karachi.

Dow International Dental College was established in December 2011 to produce dental graduates with academic excellence and research orientation to provide the highest quality of scientifically proven therapeutic services to the Community.The college is recognized and registered with PM&DC. Following programs are offered.

Dow International Medical College was established in 2007 and is a constituent college of Dow University admitting 150 students per year in MBBS Program. Its main purpose was specifically to facilitate medical education for the children of overseas Pakistanis residing all over the world.• DIMC is included in the Directory of WHO and IMED-

FRAIMER.• It is authorised user of web-portal of ECFMG.• Recently, DIMC is awarded accreditation by American

Medical Residency Certification Board (AMRCB).

Till-date, 350 graduates have passed out.

Dow College Of Pharmcy (DCOP)

Dow College of Pharmacy was established in 2007 and is recognized by Pharmacy Council of Pakistan and HEC. Following programs (undergraduate and post-graduate) are offered:

• Pharm-D (5 years Degree Program)• M.Phil• Ph.D

Institute Of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (IPM&R)

Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was established in 2007 and is committed to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation services and evidence based practice to help the patients return to an active and healthy lifestyle. It offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programs. Institute offers following specialized programs:• BS Occupational Therapy (4 year)• BS Doctor of Physiotherapy (5 year) • MS Physiotherapy (4 year) • BS Prosthetics & Orthotics (4 year)

Institute Of Medical Technology (IMT)

Institute of Medical Technology was established in 2005 to overcome the lacking of trained and qualified technical staff in Pakistan. The deficiency hampers the ability of highly qualified physicians and surgeons to provide optimum management and care. The Institute offers programs in following specialties: • BS in Clinical Laboratory Science Technology • BS in Respiratory and Critical Care Technology • BS in Surgical Technology • BS in Clinical Ophthalmology Technology • BS in Perfusion Science

Presently more than 400 (four hundred) students are studying in this Institute.

Institute Of Nursing (ION)

Institute of Nursing was established in 2006 with the help of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan to promote nursing education in Pakistan, preparing the leaders in the nursing and producing a sufficient number of highly skilled and trained nursing professionals who can meet the challenges of modern preventive and curative healthcare.The Institute offers: • Post RN BSc courses • BSc Nursing • Masters in Nursing• 18 months Midwifery Course• 01 year course of Nurse Aid

It is also fully equipped with science labs, latest models, manikins, simulators and Digital Library with high speed internet facility, having access to online HEC journals.

Dow College Of Biotechnology (DCOB)

It was established in 2015 to meet the global challenges in Biotechnology. The Course offered:• BS in Biotechnology (4 years)

It is the first university-based purpose built interdisciplinary college of biotechnology in Pakistan. Currently seventy (70) students are studying under the supervision of ten (10) PhD scholars who have been trained abroad.

1. OPEN MERITTwo hundred and twenty seven (227) seats have been reserved for open merit in Dow Medical College (DMC) for candidates with Karachi Domicile.

2. RESERVED SEAT FOR CANDIDATE FROM QUETTA BASED ON MERIT CUM CHOICEOne (01) seat is reserved for candidate of Quetta at Dow Medical College. The admission committee of Bolan Medical College (BMC) Quetta will select the candidate.

3. UEDP LOCAL (SELF FINANCE)Fifty five (55) seats are reserved at Dow Medical College (DMC) on Self Finance basis for the candidates, fulfilling the eligibility criteria of open merit.

4. UEDP OVERSEAS PAKISTANIS (SELF FINANCE)Twelve (12) seats have been reserved for the children of overseas Pakistanis. These candidates are exempted from Entry test. The UEDP overseas list will be constituted on first come first serve basis, who will fulfill all the eligibility criterias specified for overseas students.

5. UEDP FOREIGN NATIONAL (HEC)Sixteen (16) seats have been reserved in Dow Medical College (DMC) for foreign nationals, all candidates for foreign national seats will be nominated by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan, Islamabad. Details can be checked on website www.hec.gov.pk

6. PTAP (PAKISTAN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME)Sixteen (16) seats have been reserved for this category in DMC. They are nominated by Ministry of Economic Affairs & Statistics Division, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad. All PTAP nominees must join within 15 days after the session begins, otherwise the nomination will be considered invalid.

7. SEAT FOR DISABLEDOne (01) seat is reserved for disable candidate. The candidate will first be considered on general merit, than on disabled quota. The special medical board will verify the status of this candidate.

8. JINNAH SINDH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (JSMU)

Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) was established on June 1, 2012, with Sindh Medical College (SMC) as its constitute college. SMC was already counted among the premier institutions of the Sindh province with a reputation for excellence in teaching and professional training. The university expanded its mandate to undertake research and establish schools of allied health sciences.

SINDH MEDICAL COLLEGE On 7th April 1973, the Government of Sindh established the Sindh Medical College (SMC) to meet the growing need of healthcare professionals in the Sindh province. Professor Khwaja Muinuddin Ahmed was appointed the Project Director and the first Principal of the new college.

SMC was started in the building of the paediatric ward of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The college began operating with three departments initially: Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. As the college building was constructed shortly afterwards, the departments of Pathology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine, were added with modern teaching facilities, laboratories and museums. An administration block was also constructed.

JPMC, NICH and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) are the College’s teaching hospitals where students receive rigorous training in a professional environment. The first batch of MBBS at SMC was admitted in the year 1973 and included about 200 students. So far, the college has graduated more than 14,000 students in 38 batches.

APPNA Institute of Health Sciences was inaugurated on Dec 2013 with a vision to be a centre of excellence, training and service provision aiming to have healthy people living in the healthy communities of Pakistan. LIAQUAT UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL & HEALTH

SCIENCES (LUMHS) HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDThe first ever public sector Medical University having long history of imparting quality Medical Education in the region. It started as a Medical School in the present Civil Hospital, Hyderabad Sindh in 1881, the first ever Medical Institution in the province of Sindh. After separation of Sindh from the Bombay Presidency, this school was upgraded to the status of a Medical College to impart teaching for MBBS Course under Bombay University. This medical college at Hyderabad Sindh was inaugurated by Sir Francis Moody, first Governor of Sindh and the first batch of forty five students including one Muslim female student were admitted. This College was then shifted to Karachi on 10th December, 1945 and was renamed as Dow Medical College. Subsequently Government of Sindh started another college in the premises of same Civil Hospital at Hyderabad in 1951, which acquired its name as Liaquat Medical College (LMC), after the name of first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan. The LMC was affiliated with University of Sindh.

The College with its journey and natural growth for more than 66 years has made tremendous contributions in both medical education and health care in the province and the country. The College was shifted to its new, beautiful and spacious campus at Jamshoro in 1963. Initially, it offered MBBS course only. The Dental Section for imparting education and training for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) was added in 1963. In the same year the college also started Postgraduate courses.

The number of Postgraduate courses expanded gradually and the college acquired the status of a Postgraduate Medical Institute in 1989. Besides, it became a recognized institution of the training for FCPS and MCPS in almost all disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry and Allied Sciences. It also received recognition from accreditation bodies of foreign countries such as British General Medical Council of United Kingdom, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) of USA and

Institute Of Dentistry The Institute of Dentistry was originally established in the former Liaquat Medical College in the year 1963 as a second oldest but the largest institute in the country. Peoples Nursing School is the first ever public sector Institute set up in Pakistan to provide quality nursing education to deserving students to acquire in-depth knowledge and essential skills. The Institute of Nursing is housed in a beautifully built premises constructed through generous funding provided by Higher Education Commission (HEC)

The Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, was established in February, 2009 under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Noshad A. Shaikh, Vice-Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical &Health Sciences Jamshoro. There was a dire need of establishing such Institution to impart quality medical education dealing with physical therapy, occupational and speech language therapy for relieving pain and re-gaining strength after serious injuries, illness and surgery. The Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, from the date of its establishment, has been rendering / extending quality care to the patients. This institute offers (05) years Degree Program in Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT).

The need for biomedical experts has been felt in Sindh, since long time. In order to overcome this need, the University decided to establish institute of Biomedical Engineering & Technology to integrate academics with practical skills to produce genuine biomedical engineers. The dream came true and the Institute of Biomedical Technology was established in March, 2009. The institute has started B.S programme in Biomedical Engineering from 2012, under the recognition of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). This programme consists of four 04 years including eight 08 semesters, two 02 semesters per year. The aim behind the establishment of this institute was to create the diligent and proficient engineers as well as to create jobs opportunities in Public Sector Organizations including Hospitals, University, etc.

LUMHS college of Pharmacy strives to support the profession of pharmacy's vision for practice, research and education by providing an environment that: • Prepares a continuing stream of new pharmacists well-

prepared to deliver evidence-based medication therapy management and other pharmacy and health-related services as a part of interdisciplinary

• Teams dedicated to patient-centered care and the general well-being of the public health.

Inculcates the commitment and collective participation of faculty, students and other stakeholders (such as alumni, members of the Council of Overseers, and University officers) toward fostering: innovation in practice; advancement of the basic, clinical and translational sciences; application of new educational strategies; and engagement of other health care professionals from across the disciplines.

EXPLANATION NOTES ON RESERVED SEATS (02) TWO SEATS IN MBBS COURSE AT THE FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL COLLEGE (FJMC) LAHORE ARE RESERVED FOR GIRL CANDIDATES

LUMHS, selection center shall make selection of (02) Girl candidates for reserved seats at Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore either on merit cum choice basis from selection or from upper waiting merit general pool of tagged districts of LUMHS on option basis. (02) TWO SEATS AT BMC QUETTA BALOCHISTAN ON RECIPROCAL BASIS FROM LUMHS 02 candidates from LUMHS selection center shall be selected for admission in MBBS course at Bolan Medical College Quetta, either by choice from selection or from upper waiting general pool on option basis.

ONE SEAT OF MBBS COURSE AT AJK MEDICAL COLLEGE MUZAFFARABADOne candidate from LUMHS selection center shall be selected for admission in MBBS course at AJK Medical College Muzaffarabad, either by choice from selection or from upper waiting general pool on option basis. In case seat fall vacant in above categories due to selection on merit cum choice basis shall be filled by admitting next candidate from upper merit waiting of same district.

UNIVERSITY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (UEAP) Twenty five (25) seats in MBBS and fifteen(15) seats in BDS as mentioned in "Distribution of seats of tagged Districts with LUMHS" have been reserved for local students on University Educational Assistance Programme (UEAP), subject to criteria and other formalities for admission (through Entry Test) as prescribed in the prospectus. The candidates who will apply for admission in MBBS/BDS course under UEAP self finance will be considered on merit basis, in case General Merit seat fall vacant before closing of admission the candidate shall be considered on General Merit seat as per merit.

UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (UDP) Fifty (50) seats in MBBS and (22) seats in BDS as mentioned in "Distribution of seats of tagged Districts with LUMHS" have been reserved for local students on University Development Programme (UDP) subject to criteria and other formalities for admission (through Entry Test) as prescribed in the prospectus. Those candidates who will apply for admission in MBBS/BDS course under UDP self finance will be considered as per merit.

RESERVED SEATS UNDER OVERSEAS CATEGORY FOR THE CHILDREN OF OVERSEAS PAKISTANIFour (04) seats in MBBS have been reserved for the children of overseas Pakistani domiciled of tagged district of LUMHS, subject to criteria and other formalities for admission as prescribed in prospectus.

OPTION ONCE GIVEN SHALL BE FINAL Once a candidate exercises an option for a seat on merit cum choice basis and fails to avail the same, his/her admission shall stand cancelled & will not be considered on open merit.

SEATS FOR BALOCHISTAN PROVINCE 04 seats for MBBS program, 02 on reciprocal basis and 02 Good Will basis are reserved for the students of Balochistan Province. The nominations will be made by the Health Department Govt. of Balochistan for admission at LUMHS Jamshoro. The criteria of their admissions must be followed by the eligibility, rules and regulations of this University and PM&DC rules. ADMISSION OF DISABLED CANDIDATES Candidates for admission against the seats reserved for disabled persons after having failed to be selected against the district merit seats on the basis of their overall merit, after the Entry Test, will have to produce a certificate from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Sindh, Karachi or Civil Services Hospital to the effect.

A Medical Board shall be constituted by the Vice-Chancellor, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro to examine the candidates and establish the degree of disability of the candidates. The Board shall award a certificate to this account for inclusion of the name of the candidates on the list of the disabled candidates.

It is indeed a pleasure for me to write this message for the prospectus of 2017-2018 batch of MBBS. Previously we were having a separate test from other Universities only for the Girls candidates of the tagged districts willing to seek admission at PUMHS. From the current academic year as per decision of Health Department Government of Sindh pre-entry test will be conducted by Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi for the all Public Sectors Medical Universities and Colleges at various centers on the same date.

As per merit-cum choice the students will be admitted according to the tagged districts to concerned University and College. I hope the transparent practice and skillfulness of admission system will keep satisfy all the applicants whether they qualify or not.

INTRODUCTION OF PUMHSW, NAWABSHAH (SBA)With passion vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto the premier Medical College exclusive for girls came into existence in April 1974 at Nawabshah with the name of Peoples Medical College.

Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah was established by Act of Government of Sindh 2009 dated 21-12-2009. Governor of Sindh & Chancellor given Ascent on 10-11-2010. Prof. Azam Hussain Yousfani was appointed on 8th January, 2011 as the First / Founder Vice Chancellor of Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad.

During infancy period of PUMHSW have established the Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences in 2012, Begum Bilqees Sultana Institute of Nursing in 2012, and Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2014.

PUMHSW are stepping forward in accordance to ever changing Medical & Community Health Sciences. Last year, PUMHSW was ISO Certified for Quality Management System and in the last academic year, PUMHSW have initiated a new course of BS Public Health accredited by Higher Education Commission and First of its kind in Pakistan. It will open the new avenues and career opportunities for the graduates.

Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women is known for its quality education, reputable research and best patient care. For this purpose, it is all the time in strenuous efforts to assert assemble and expand. It is enriched with qualified and competent faculty to deliver their best. Every department is equipped with latest instruments.

Skill Lab was established which will be upgraded to the professional development centre to give hands on practical training to the students and the faculty members by conducting regular classes working of primary training care (PTC), Basic life support (BLS), Advance cardiac life support (ACLS) and Advanced life Trauma life support (ALTLS) workshop besides all possible training in medical and surgical, nursing and Physiotherapy skills.

About 6000 lady doctors have been graduated from this College so far. Postgraduate training in this institute started in 2004 and since then about 600 postgraduate trainees have imparted training in various specialties. Seventy foreign national students belonging to different countries including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Somalia, Sudan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Indian held Kashmir, Canada, Maldives, Kenya, Jordan and Oman are studying in this University. Many have been graduated and are serving in their respective countries.

1. One hundred thirty (130) girl students shall be admitted to PUMHSW Nawabshah. Once a candidate offers an option for a seat on merit basis and fails to avail the same, her admission shall stand cancelled & will not be considered on open merit if some seats fall vacant.

2. All those candidates who have applied on UEAP (Local) will be first considered on General-Merit then on Self Finance.

3. Candidates for all Foreign National seats under PTAP are to be nominated by the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Economic Affairs Division, Islamabad.

4. Indian Occupied Kashmiri students must be nominated by Economic Affairs Division Islamabad along with their entry test result.

5. Candidates for all Foreign Nationals seat sunder UEAP are to be nominated by the Higher Education Commission, Government of Pakistan Islamabad.

MIGRATION:Migration to public or private medical institution will not be allowed to any student once admitted in Peoples University of Medical & Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah).

INTRODUCTION

The dream of establishing a Medical University in Lakrana was fulfilled through announcement by the Honourable Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah at Garhi Khuda Bux on 12th April 2008.

The bill for Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University was presented and unanimously passed by Sindh Assembly on 12th September 2008.

The act was sent to Honourable Governor of Sindh for Assent and subsequently the Act was notified on 18th October 2008.The Ground-Breaking Ceremony of the university was performed by the then President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari on 30th December 2009.

Admission of all the candidates is according to Allocated Reserve Quota in respect of Jurisdiction, Domicile / PRC of the above mentioned previous Towns / Districts / Divisions as per previous policy hereby remain constant as here-to-fore.

OPTIONS ONCE GIVEN SHALL BE FINALOnce a candidate exercises an option for a seat on open merit basis or on self financing seat and fails to avail the same, his/ her admission shall stand cancelled & will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY1. Candidate for admission must have Permanent Residence and Domicile certificate in a

respective Towns / Districts / Divisions of Sindh province tagged to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, Karachi.

2. Whereas there is no Allocated, Reserve / Special seat available for any other province/overseas as per policy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, Karachi in the course of M.B.B.S. like FATA, Gilgit Baltistan etc.

3. Documents submitted at the time of submission of forms will be considered genuine residential jurisdiction and correct documents after the advertisement in the daily National news papers for admission. No change / alternate of Domicile / PRC and documents in current or next year for admission will be acceptable and hence this type of claims have neither legal values nor is challengeable in any court of law and authorities. This act of change / alternate disqualify the student from admission in the current session and next.

4. Strictly notify that after the display of Final Merit List the student will be eligible for the admission in the First year M.B.B.S. Course in current session after authenticated verification of Domicile/PRC residential jurisdiction from concerned authority of previous Towns/Districts/ Divisions and other educational documents. If after verification Domicile / PRC / Educational documents appear fake or students will not appear bonafide resident of residential jurisdiction of concerned Town / District / Division. The admission will be deemed cancel and any type of claim have neither legal value nor is challengeable in any court of law and next candidate on merit will be considered for admission.

5. After displaying of final merit list, admission will be finalized after verification of domicile/ PRC of concerned towns (and Relevant Documents). Any Candidates found using Domicile/P.R.C. of more than one Town/ District/ Division, domicile obtained on false credentials or of other province in Pakistan shall be disqualified for admission in this college forever and is liable for prosecution under the standing laws.

6. Domicile Certificate and CNIC from NADRA of Father/ Mother / Guardian should be from Sindh Province. The domicile certificate of mother shall only be accepted in case father has expired and no such certificate was issued to him or there has been remarriage / separation for which a valid document from Judge of the Court has been produced. Domicile certificate and CNIC from NADRA of the candidate can also be accepted either if he/ she has attained

the age of 18 years or both the parents are not alive (supported by death certificate) and no such certificate was issued to him. In this case guardian domicile (from Sindh Province) should be submitted.

7. All admissions are provisional subject to verification of Documents, Domicile / PRC submitted by the candidate and also the correct observance of the rules. If at any stage, even after the final merit list or the start classes of academic session, it is proved that the candidate has been admitted on the basis of false / incorrect documents or information or having double Domicile/ PRC or against the rules of admission, his/her admission shall be cancelled immediately by the institution concerned after giving him/her a genuine / legal opportunity to show cause (within seven days) as to why his/her admission should not be cancelled and all fees paid by him/her shall not be forfeited documents will result in disqualification students from admission in this current session and also next.

8. The date of admission in First year M.B.B.S course shall be taken to be the first day of the corresponding academic year, irrespective of the fact as to when candidate has been selected for admission in the institution.

9. The rules and regulations for holding different professional examination for M.B.B.S. course shall be in accordance with the rules and regulations framed by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) & university where college is affiliated for the Degree course of M.B.B.S. or amended from time to time and as approved by the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, Karachi.

RULES FOR MIGRATIONNo migration either external or internal in any circumstances is allowed during the whole M.B.B.S course in this Institute.

All the selected candidates should submit the Affidavit duly sign alongwith his / her guardians at the time of admission that student will not apply / approach for migration any time during the course of studies. If he / she shall fail to abide the oath, defying and commit breach against the submitted affidavit, he / she will be liable of cancellation of admission immediately and all fees paid by him / her shall be forfeited according to Rules of Admission.

RULES OF PAYMENT OF FEES

1. Any fee deposited is non-refundable.

2. Total tuition fee per annum has to be deposited at the time of admission.

3. Fee of all categories will increase by 10% every year.

4. Fee is subjected to be revised by the Medical College / University at any time during the course of the study due to unavoidable circumstances.

5. Annual Fee (including tuition fee): Tution & Admission fee as mentioned in form. Learning / Attribution Resource Development Fee: Rs. 880/- Annual Library Fees Rs. 2420/- Annual Transport Fees Rs. 2800/- Month 6. All the fees should be deposited through Payorders from any Bank of Pakistan.

7. The Tuition fee / self-finance fee per annum has to be deposited through Payorders for every subsequent year within first week of 1st Semester, 3rd Semester, 5th Semester, 7th semester and 9th Semester. In case of default, late fees will be charged.

1. The minimum educational qualification of candidate for admission to First year MBBS / BDS course in Public Sector Institutes of Sindh Province under all admission categories is Higher Secondary Certificate Examinations (HSC) Pre-Medical Group i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology with at least "B" Grade or any equivalent examination from any other Board or Institution recognized by IBCC with at least 60%. Candidates obtaining less than 60% Marks in HSC (Pre-Medical) or equivalent Examinations are not eligible.

2. Candidate for admission under the cate-gories General Merit, Merit Cum-Choice, Self Finance and Disabled seats must be having Permanent Residents (as mentioned in B-Form / CNIC) and Domicile of respective tagged Districts of Sindh. His/her Father / Mother (in case of Death of Father / Divorce) must also be holding domicile of Sindh Province. Successful candidates will be admitted in institute as per tagged district on their merit cum choice basis, and in case of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Lyari Karachi, please specify the town as well.

3. Candidates for admission under category of Overseas (Self Finance) must have documented evidence of having a Pakistani background.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FATA CANDIDATES / AFGHAN NATIONALS: 1. Foreign Nationals under Pakistan Technical

Assistant Program (PTAP) will be admitted after their nomination by the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Economic Affair Division, Islamabad.

2. Candidates for admission under category “Foreign Nationals/Afghan Nationals (Self Finance scheme) are required nomination by Higher Education Commission. However candidates for admission under category “Afghan Refugees” must be nominated by Economic Affairs Division, Islamabad.

3. Candidates of FATA are required nomination by Ministry of States and Frontier Regions, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad.

4. Above mentioned all candidates shall be required to obtain atleast 60% marks as per equivalence from IBCC in three subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Maths together with minimum SAT-II scores of 550, according to rules and regulations of PM&DC.

5. Valid TOEFL or IELTS with a score of 550 or 5.5.

ELIGIBILITY OF DISABLED CANDIDATES: Candidates for admission against the seats reserved for disabled persons after having failed to be selected against the district merit seats on the basis of their overall merit, after the Entry Test, will have to produce a certificate from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Sindh, Karachi or Civil Services Hospital to the effect: 1. That he/she is a disabled candidate within

the meaning of disability which defined "Disability" as that degree of physical disability which puts the candidate at disadvantage as compared to a normal person for acquiring education in medical institutions, but otherwise capable of performing his/her duties satisfactorily as a

medical professional. 2. That he/she is mentally fit and physically able

to carry on studies and perform professional duties after qualifying MBBS.

3. His / her disability should not be of such a severe degree that makes a candidate unable to acquire medical education or work as a doctor.

Selection against the reserved seats will be made from the list of the disabled candidates strictly on combined merit basis after entry test.

ENTRY TEST:1. Candidates who have passed Intermediate

Sciences (Pre-Medical group) or A-Level examination with minimum 60% marks shall be eligible to appear in the Entry Test. The candidates who have passed A-Level Examination should submit transcript and equivalence certificate from IBCC Islamabad.

2. All eligible candidates for admission in MBBS/BDS have to appear in the Entry Test.

3. The entry test shall be conducted from the prescribed intermediate syllabus of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur & Mirpurkhas. There will be 100 multiple choice question in the test, distributed in the following manner:

• Biology 30 questions• Physics 30 questions• Chemistry 30 questions• English 10 questions

4. The time allotted to solve the paper will be 120 minutes. There will be 0.25 or ¼ negative marking for each incorrect answer. Each correct answer shall be awarded 04(Four) marks and there be 01 (One) negative mark for each incorrect answer.

RULES OF ADMISSIONS

1. The application for admission to 1st year MBBS/BDS shall be invited through an advertisement in the leading newspapers mentioning the last date of receiving such applications. The applications received after due date shall not be accepted. The application shall be submitted through TCS.

2. Candidate applying for getting admission in SMBBC Lyari and PUMHSW Shaheed, Benazirbaad (Nawabshah) are by default on merit list of DUHS / JSMU, and LUMHS / SMBBMU – Larkana.

3. Candidates are required to fill in only ONE FORM for admission in MBBS and BDS course for all categories of seats (General merit, merit-cum-choice, UEAP / UDP / Overseas self finance and disabled seats). There will be no separate form for each category.

4. All seats in various districts are open for competition. Nobody shall be denied admission on the ground of gender, religion, color and caste.

5. Competition in each district shall take place between candidates of that district (same District) thus a candidate from one district shall not compete with a candidate of other district.

6. Application form and the Prospectus can be obtained by designated outlets of TCS.

7. Candidates are required to submit application forms alongwith non refundable of Rs.2500/- (Rupees Twenty Five Hundred only) including entry test and processing fee in cash and (03) copies of following listed documents duly attested by a Government officer in grade 18 or above, at designated

outlets of TCS.

8. Matriculation Pakka and Pass Certificate.

9. Matriculation marks sheet or 'O' level equivalence certificate by IBCC.

10. Intermediate science marks sheet and pass certificate or A-Level (Pre-Medical group) equivalence certificate by IBCC, with transcript certificate.

11. National Identity Card from NADRA / 'B' Form of candidate (as applicable).

12. Permanent Residence Certificate (Form-C) of the candidate in accordance with Law/Rules or in the absence thereof in the form determined by the Government (Tagged Districts).

13. Domicile Certificate of candidate (Tagged Districts).

14. Domicile Certificate of father / mother (in case of death of father or divorce) of Sindh Province.

15. Computerized National Identity Card of Father / Mother from NADRA (incase of death of father or divorce).

16. Hafiz-e-Quran Certificate (If applicable) from any reputable Madarsa.

17. Certificate of disability from the Department of Social Welfare, Govt: of Sindh, Karachi or Civil Services Hospital (incase of Disabled candidate).

20. In case of father being deceased, death certificate of father from NADRA.

21. Candidates applying under the category of Overseas Pakistanis (self finance) should submit the proof of his/her father/mother working outside the Pakistan.

NOTE: Any candidate found using Domicile/P.R.C of more than one district/province in Pakistan shall be disqualified for admission in any medical institution of Sindh.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:1. Application Form with all relevant documents

must be properly filled / tagged.

2. Applications along with the attested photocopies of required documents shall be submitted in the prescribed printed form and its columns must be filled in correctly. Incomplete forms are liable to be rejected.

3. Copies of relevant documents duly attested must be submitted as per schedule given at the end of this prospectus. No application form shall be entertained after the closing date.

4. The Chairman of the Admission Committee will display the list of selected candidates who will report to their respective institutes for completion of admission process.

5. The Admission Committee shall have the discretion to cancel the admission of any candidate, who indulges in violence, uses

abusive language or becomes insolent or misbehaves with the Admission Committee.

6. The Provisional merit of the candidate is liable to be corrected, if required at any stage and no candidate whose name appears in the provisional list shall claim admission on that basis.

7. No documents (Marksheet, Revised Marksheet, Domicile, PRC, CNIC etc) will be entertained after entry test.

8. All admissions are provisional, subject to verification of original documents submitted by the candidate. If at any stage it is proved that the candidate has been admitted on the basis of false or incorrect documents or information or against the merit or rules of admission, his/her admission shall be cancelled immediately after giving him/her an opportunity to show cause and the fee if any deposited shall be forfeited and University will have the right to take legal action against the candidate as per rules.

9. Only the girl candidates will be admitted in PUHMSW, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) on merit cum choice basis on allocated seats of tagged districts.

10. The day one of the commencement of classes will be considered as beginning of academic year.

11. Seats which remain vacant at the time of selection, shall be filled by admitting the next candidate on merit list from the same district. District merit is strictly maintained according to District merit quota; if the seat still remains vacant the same shall be filled by consideration of candidates on combined merit from the tagged districts. In case a seat falls vacant during first thirty (30) days of the academic year of admission, the same shall be filled by adopting the aforesaid

12. The selected candidates shall get themselves enrolled with the institution on payment of requisite fees within a period of two weeks, failing which his/her admission will be cancelled, and next candidate on merit will be offered the seat.

13. Candidates who are finally selected on open merit seat, UEAP (self finance) or any other category allowed provisional admission shall have to pledge through an affidavit that they will complete the course of MBBS of 05(five) years, and BDS of 04(four) years. In case they leave the University before completing the course for any reason, they will submit a pay order of Rs.300,000/- (Rupees Three Lac only) in favour of the respective university as a penalty for wasting a precious seat.

14. Original documents (Matric/O Level Certificate, Matric/ O Level Marksheet, Intermediate/ A Level provisional certificate, Intermediate/A Level Marksheet, Candidate Domicile, Candidate PRC & Father’s Domicile) selected candidates will remain in the custody of respective university till the completion of the course or the expulsion of the candidate due to any reason.

15. Those candidates who will be selected for admission under UEAP, UDP, Overseas Pakistani, Foreign Nationals and Afghan Nationals will not be converted in District merit seat after enrollment.

16. If at any stage of MBBS/BDS course, it is proved that the candidate has been admitted on the basis of false/incorrect documents/informative against admission rules, university has the right to cancel the admission after giving legal option to the candidate to defend himself/ herself.

17. Selected candidates shall have to deposit

fee within 15 days after displaying the final selection list, otherwise their names will be cancelled without any notice and no claim will be considered.

18. Those students who are studying in 1st year MBBS course against any seat of tagged districts are not entitled to Re-appear/Re-sit in Entry Test. If any selected student will Re-appear/Re-sit in Entry Test his/her admission will be cancelled immediately and University have the right to take legal proceedings against that student.

1. If the student wishes to leave the University, the deposited fee will be refunded as per PM&DC and HEC rules.

2. Fee is subject to revision by the University/Health Department Government of Sindh at any time during the course of study and will be applicable at once for all years.

3. Candidates selected for admission in 1st Year MBBS/BDS under any category will have to deposit fee within two weeks after display of the final list, failing which their names will be cancelled without any notice and no claim will be entertained.

4. The student will have to pay the prescribed fee for the remaining years at the start of each session within stipulated time period i.e. 15 days. The challan forms will be issued by the Directorate of Finance.

5. The examination forms will be issued from the office of the Coordinators of the concerned years.

6. If any student in subsequent semester/years fails to deposit fee/dues within stipulated time period, he/she shall not be eligible to appear in Examination. If student appeared in Examination without clearing dues the Controller of Examinations will be held responsible.

7. In case of student appeared in Examination with the permission of the competent authority the Controller of Examinations will withhold the Examination result till issuing of No Dues Certificate from Incharge Student’s Branch / Director of Finance.

8. The Incharge Student’s Branch / Director of Finance will be responsible to collect

the prescribed fee of remaining years from students. If any student fails to deposit the prescribed fee, the Directorate of Finance will issue notice to the defaulter student.

9. The Director of Admissions will provide the complete data of admitted students.

10. Late payment will be charged as per respective university’s policy.

11. Convocation and Degree fee will be charged from students at the time of submission of tuition fee of final year.

FEE FOR FAILURE / REPEATER STUDENTS 1. In case of students who are admitted under

semester system are declared fail in one semester but passed the other semester of the same year, they will be charged self finance fee, according to PM&DC guidelines.

2. In case of students who could not pass any exam semester / annual in two attempts have to pay the tuition fee according to PM&DC’s guidelines.

TEACHING SYSTEM & PROMOTION/DROPOUT CRITERIA

RULES FOR MIGRATIONThe following categories of students will not be allowed for migration:

1. Those who are admitted against:(a) Reserved seats(b) Overseas /UDP / UEAP under Self Finance.

2. Those who are admitted on the basis of merit cum-choice / reciprocal in the University not tagged to their district of domicile including those admitted in FJMC Lahore / BMC Quetta.

3. Those who have not passed the First Professional MBBS examination (Part - I & II both) and those who have not passed the First professional BDS examination.

4. Those student who do not fall in the above categories shall be allowed for migration if they fulfill the following requirements:

1) NOC from Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) is mandatory.

2) On mutual exchange basis between students of same class.

3) ONCE during the entire period of medical education of a student.

4) Student who gets NOC from other recipient University/ Medical college or provincial Government, out of Sindh Province, thus the seat falling vacant on this unilateral migration, will be forfeited.

1. DUHS, JSMU, SMBBLMC (Lyari) are following Integrated Modular Teaching System and Semester wise Examination System, that is five year, comprises of 10-semesters is implemented.

2. When a student clears two semester in (annual or retake) two attempts, he/she is promoted to next year and if he/she will not clear two semester in two attempts then he/she will has to repeat the year.

3. LUMHS and PUMHWS (Nawabshah) are following conventional teaching system and semester wise examination system is implemented.

4. SMBBMU (Larkana) is following conventional teaching system and annual examination system is implemented.

5. If any student could not clear Semester I, II, III, IV in maximum 4 attempts (availed or unavailed) then his/her enrolment will be cancelled and he/she will not be able to get medical examination anywhere in Pakistan.

5) Migration fee of Rs. 100,000/ (Rupees One Lac Only) will be charged by each university (relieving and admitting) from the student.

6) Migration of students to and from the Private Medical Colleges / Universities is not allowed under any circumstances.

7) All scholarships / financial assistance shall be cancelled once the student migrates to another college/ institution.

8) The migrated student shall not claim any compensation for the loss of time due to differences in starting/ending of academic sessions in examination scheduled between concerned institutions.

9) Migration to public or private medical institution will not be allowed to any student once admitted at Peoples University of Medical & Sciences for Women Nawabshah, Shaheed Benazirabad and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Lyari, Karachi.

10) Migration is only possible when there is any vacant seat available in the receipt insitute so that the total number of seat could exceed the designated quota.

11) Migration is not possible if the curriculum being followed in both universities different (Integrated Modular & Conventional).

MEDICAL BOARD FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES

Selected c andidates shall have to undergo a medical examination through Medical Board constituted by the University. The Selected candidates must produce following investigations.

Since the HSC (Pre-Medical) Examination has 200 marks in each science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) making a maximum total of 600 marks, therefore the acquired and maximum marks of A Level candidates will be multiplied by two.

245 x 2 /300 x 2 = 490/600

Now, 40% of 490 marks will be considered for weightage in the total marks for final merit of an A Level/Equivalent candidate to be at par with HSC (Pre Medical) candidate.

4. In case, the overall score of two or more candidates are equal, the candidates securing higher marks in the HSC (Pre-Medical/Qualifying Examination) shall be ranked higher in merit for the purpose of admission. If the HSC marks are equal the candidate securing higher marks in Matric shall be ranked higher in merit for the purpose of admission and if the Matric marks of two or more than two candidates are also equal only then the candidate older in age shall be ranked higher in merit for the purpose of admission.

NOTE: The production of equivalence certificate from IBCC shall be the responsibility of the candidate.

Marks shall be added or deducted from the total marks of the candidate in his/her HSC (Pre-Medical) qualifying examination in order to adjust the marks.

1. Ten (10) marks will be added to all Hafiz-e-Quran candidates subject to the clearance of Hafiz-e-Quran Interview, to be conducted by Hafiz-e-Quran Committee and production of legitimate certificate from an approved institution that he/she is a Hafiz-e-Quran. Interview Committee for Hafiz-e-Quran candidates constituted by the concerned Vice Chancellor to conduct interview of Hafiz-e-Quran candidates to ensure that he/she is a genuine Hafiz-e-Quran.

2. These 10 marks of Hafiz-e-Quran candidates shall be considered only for admission in MBBS/BDS course.

3. 10 marks per year shall be deducted from the cumulative score of three science subjects, if there is a gap of more than two years between the year of Matriculation and year of Entry Test.

WAITING LISTOn the Open Merit Admission, candidates who are interested only for open merit admission have to submit an application to clarify their non interest in self finance (or only open merit waiting).

For reciprocal seats, candidates have to submit Rs.18,700/- bank draft in favour of respective university (to be returned if they join the respective college/university within 1 week of the offer). If the selected candidate does not report within 1 week of the offer, the next candidate on waiting list (of reciprocal candidates) will be offered this seat and his/her admission fee draft will not be refunded. A

candidate can keep his/her name in only one waiting list.

On the day of Self Finance Admission (UDEP), those candidates who wish to keep their name on waiting list of UDEP have to submit bank draft of Rs.24,200/- Admission fee (refundable if the respective university could not admit within one month). Only these candidates will be considered to be interested for admission and their name will remain included in self finance waiting list.

CLOSING DATE OF ADMISSION• Admission to all categories will be closed

thirty (30) days after start of academic session and no admission will be given in any category including the reserved seats.

• Orientation class on first day of the class after admission in first year MBBS/BDS course will be considered as the first day of corresponding academic year.

• Enrolment form will be issued after the confirmation of submitted documents within 3 months of 1st day of academic session. Any other letter besides that will be considered fake.

• The selected candidates will be enrolled with the university by paying enrolment fee.

VACANT SEATS• The seats which remain vacant at the time

of selection will be filled by admitting the next candidate on merit under the same category.

• In case a seat falls vacant during first fifteen days of the academic year of admission, it will be filled by admitting the

next candidate on merit.• The provisions made in this prospectus are

liable to be modified, relaxed or amended by the university authorities from time to time and such changes will be applicable to all concerned.
