A brief history of the Group Tradelink was established in 1989 in London and procurement offices were set up in South East Asia and Brazil. The senior operating executives of the Tradelink Group were formerly employed within the Interwil Group, which had been established and built up by them over a quarter of a century into a respected international timber trading Group. During the following 25+ years Tradelink expanded to the current day when they have: Trading Offices in 7 countries: Canada, China, France, Portugal, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America; Procurement Offices in South America, North America, Malaysia, Singapore & China; and a Manufacturing Plant (Flooring, Decking, Components) in Brazil.

The extended Group’s customers benefitted from the international synergies provided by the network of offices worldwide, covering the procurement, shipping and marketing of forest products.

Procurement Tradelink has a world wide procurement division - these offices are staffed by specialists, well versed in local conditions and customs. Users of wood are often unaware of the enormous difficulties involved in securing supplies at source and complying with local and international regulations. The advantages to Tradelink’s customers of having experienced personnel in the timber-sourcing regions, procuring from selected suppliers, cannot be over-emphasised. Expert procurement officers & inspectors supervise the grading of products at source, in order to minimize the quality deficiencies prior to shipment. They also ensure that everything purchased passes very strict legal and environmental compliance procedures. This is invaluable to customers in relation to complying with international laws such as EUTR/Europe and the Lacey Act/USA. Our Procurement services are equally valuable to the suppliers, enabling them to market the various grades they produce.

Environment

The future of Tradelink’s business depends on the long-term availability of hardwood timber and allied wood products. The forests are vital to both local and global environments, economies and communities. The group attaches great importance to good environmental management with a sound and balanced attitude to the forests’ eco-systems and the lifestyles of their dependent peoples. Tradelink has achieved FSC and PEFC chain of custody certification in 1999 and are actively seeking to expand their sources of supply in FSC and PEFC certified forest products. Tradelink has also received FSC and PEFC Multi Site certification for the entire group. Tradelink complies with the UK Timber Trades Responsible Purchasing Policy Commitments (RPP) and strictly maintains its Environmental Policy and adopts a structured system of monitoring and assessing its suppliers by applying a robust and comprehensive due diligence procedure to collect information about each supplier and every shipment made in order to assess the risk of illegally harvested timber being present and take appropriate mitigating actions if any risks are identified. Tradelink is able to assure its clients in the EU that the Due Diligence procedures required for EUTR were already part of Tradelink’s procedures when the law came into being in March 2013. Tradelink also complies with other regulations such as Lacey Act in the USA. Responsibility towards customers and society as a whole demands a sound and balanced attitude to the protection of the environment, as well as ensuring supplies in the future. The Tradelink group has an on-going programme to monitor waste management and to conserve resources by re-using, recycling or recovering value of by-products at its manufacturing sites. Tradelink complies with the UK Modern Slavery Act, and is committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities, and to ensuring that its supply chains are free from such practices.

EUTR Compliance 10/06/2017 This document explains our obligations to meet the requirements of the EU Timber regulation (EUTR) which came into force on 03rd March 2013. Who is affected? The Regulation divides those who deal in timber and timber products into two categories: Operators and Traders.

Operators are those who first place timber products on the EU market and they carry the bulk of the responsibility.

Tradelink act as operators when importing the goods into Europe and arrange the customs clearance.

Traders are those who buy or sell timber or timber products already on placed in the EU market and are required

only to keep track of who they buy from and who they sell to for five years. This information is only needed for the

period up to the last point of sale between businesses. No information is needed on sales to end consumers.

Tradelink’s responsibility as Importer (i.e. the Operator)

We are required to exercise Due Diligence when placing wood on the EU market. It is down to us to implement a Due

Diligence system designed to minimise the chances of the wood coming from, or being made of wood which comes

from, illegally harvested sources. We therefore implement a risk management system based on:

1. Having access to information describing the timber and timber products, country of harvest, species,

scientific name, quantity, details of the supplier and information on compliance with national legislation.

2. Assessing the risk of illegal timber in his supply chain, based on the information identified above and taking

into account criteria set out in the regulation.

3. Having risk mitigation procedures in place that are adequate and proportionate to minimise the risk of

placing illegal products on the market.

4. FLEGT or CITES licenses automatically comply with EUTR requirements and 2 and 3 above are not required.

5. FSC, PEFC and other credible certifications are not exempt from EUTR due diligence. These certifications can

be used only to mitigate risk in the due diligence process making 2 and 3 above less complicated.

If you buy imported goods from Tradelink we can assure you that the above Due Diligence procedures are already

part of our current procedures in place today. We have been complying with other regulations such as Lacey Act in the

USA for years already and we were among the first to sign up to the UK Timber Trade Federation’s Code of Conduct

and Responsible Purchasing Policy in 2007. Our customers will not need to worry about due diligence but only comply

with EUTR’s requirements for Traders.

If you buy timber products from us on a forward basis with FOB, CFR or CIF incoterms and arrange your own import

into the EU we undertake to have done the Due Diligence required as for operators and to maintain the records for a

minimum of 5 years. We will disclose such information to you upon your signature of a Non-Disclosure Agreement

undertaking to use such information only in the event of a compliance audit for non-commercial purposes.

Further useful information and FAQ’s can be accessed on this website , set up by the EC and dedicated to the EUTR

I hope that this is clear but please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any questions.

Yours sincerely,

Responsible Purchasing Policy Commitments

Management Structure

The Tradelink group has appointed a director responsible for the implementation of this Policy and will

ensure that relevant environmental issues are discussed regularly at the highest level of management.

The Tradelink group will ensure that all employees associated with timber purchasing are aware of the Policy

and its commitments and are given appropriate education and training to allow its full implementation. Responsibility

The Tradelink group recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment, customers, suppliers

and staff to base commercial activities on well-managed forests. TTF Code of Conduct

The Tradelink group is committed to the Timber Trade Federation Code of Conduct and applies

the Environmental Code of Practice to all wood procurement activities.

Legality

The Tradelink group is committed to purchasing all timber from legal sources and will seek evidence

of compliance from suppliers that they are operating in accordance with the laws of the country.

The company unreservedly condemns illegal logging practices and will keep informed of international processes and changes in legislation.

Endangered Species

The Tradelink group will not trade in timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the CITES legislation

and will obtain the appropriate documents for trade in all other CITES listed timber species. Traceability and Supplier Monitoring

The Tradelink group will perform a Risk Assessment on all Suppliers, as documented by the RPP.

The assessment will seek to provide the clearest practicable information regarding the sources of raw

material used in the manufacture of wood products.

This information will form part of purchasing decisions and will be made available on request to

independent verifiers. Timber Certification

The Tradelink group supports international efforts to improve forest management, for example,

the development of credible timber certification schemes. The company recognises that the independent certification of forests and the process chain is a useful tool for providing assurances that the timber comes

from legal and well-managed forests. The company will only accept, or use labels of certificates that include environmental or sustainability claims, supported by publicly available standards drawn up in a fully

participatory, transparent and objective manner and backed by independent inspection.

Avoid Boycotts

The Tradelink group will not encourage boycotts or bans on specific species of timber. Notwithstanding

this, the company will cease to purchase any timber and timber products supplied in breach of the

Timber Trade Federation Code of Conduct and, in particular, the Environmental Code of Practice. Continuous Improvement

The Tradelink group is committed to work with relevant trade organisations, NGOs and governments to

develop its purchasing policy. The company is committed to continuously raise the proportion of timber

and timber products, in accordance with the stepwise approach, that originates from legal and sustainably managed forests. Reporting and Audit

The Tradelink group will report annually to the appointed auditors. The auditors will assess and verify

the company’s progress and compliance under the policy.
