CHANGES OF MY DECISIONS IN PRE-

PRODUCTION

Page 2: Decisions and revisions 2

WHAT DECISIONS HAVE YOU CHANGED/REVISED SO FAR FROM YOUR INITIAL IDEAS TO WEEK 4 OF PRE- PRODUCTION?In terms of actually filming my film opening I have decided to take advantage of the locations that are available around me e.g Downtown Dubai, the Desert and Dubai Marina. These locations are very unique and I thought that I could easily interpret my knowledge in my film opening by using these places. For example being able to show my understanding on the different type of camera shots. Originally, I was planning on filming in only two locations the character’s room and the desert, however, I am glad that I changed my decision as I think the use of different locations really bring the plot of the film opening together and will make it as interesting and as appealing as possible for the target audience. Another decision I have changed since I first started planning my initial idea is the the main character. I first planned on having the main character of the film opening to be a male. This is because, I thought the audience would prefer the film opening this way, however I gave out a questionnaire as my primary research to my target audience and the results showed that they would prefer to have the main character be female. As I am willing to consider my target audience as much as possible to make my film opening as successful as it can be, I eventually finalized on having the main character be a female and this was no struggle to adjust to.

WHAT ELEMENTS OF YOUR FILM OPENING DO YOU THINK MIGHT CHANGE? OR IS A WORK IN PROGRESS?

The main factors that I think might change from what were finalized from the initial idea planning are; the film title, the sound and possible the locations if I receive no permission. The only reason being, that I am not completely happy with how they turned out and if I were to have the chance to change any idea for example the title I would change it after the film opening is finished as I believe I will get the perfect final title by this time.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KEEP REVIEWING YOUR IDEAS THROUGH THE PRE-PRODUCTION PROCESS?It is important for me to keep on reviewing my ideas through the pre-production process as my ideas are continuously in development and can also change from time to time. For example, the locations I have decided to film my film opening act might change on the day due to weather conditions. It is also a very strong thought of mine throughout this process to keep linking back to the target audience and consider them on every decision that is made, as at the end of the day, the film opening will be a product that is targeted for them to enjoy. This is the reason why I created a questionnaire, reassuring that my ideas fit with the genre and that the target audience are willing to watch the final product that I produce. Another reason why it is important is because, as time passes throughout this process, new creative ideas start to evolve and will eventually put me in the situation that I will want to fit all ideas in the film opening as much as possible. However, being able to manage my time well and plan coordinately, I should be able to come to the realization that not all ideas have to be included and that all have to link in order to make the plot of the film opening make sense.
