THE ENVELOPE The message of Christmas is wrapped up in couple of verses of scripture con- tained in Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"-- which means, "God with us." Also, John 3:16-17 “For God so loved world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not per- ish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to con- demn the world, but to save the world through him.” Wowwhat a gracious gift we have received! I love the Christmas season with all that is repre- sents to us. I came across one of “those” Christmas stories that can be found in many collections. Though the author is unknown, it makes us mindful of our purpose during this Christmas season: It's just a small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no iden- tification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so. It all began because my husband, Mike, hated Christmasoh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it: over- spending, the frantic running around at the last minute, the gifts given in desperation. Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties…. I reached for something special just for Mike. Our son Kevin was wrestling at the junior level at the school he at- tended; shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team sponsored by an inner-city church. These youngsters, dressed in sneakers so ragged that shoe- strings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast to our boys in their spiffy blue and gold uniforms and sparkling new wrestling shoes. As the match began, I was alarmed to see that the other team was wres- tling without headgear. It was a luxury the ragtag team obviously could not afford. We ended up walloping them. As each of their boys got up from the mat, he swaggered around in his tatters with false bravado, a kind of street pride that couldn't acknowledge defeat. Mike shook his head sadly. "I wish just one of them could have won," he said. "They have a lot of poten- tial, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them." That's when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought an assortment of wrestling head- gear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. On Christmas Eve, I placed an envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the bright- est thing about Christmas. Each Christmas, I followed the tradi- tionone year sending a group of mentally handicapped youngsters to a hockey game, another year giving a check to a pair of elderly brothers whose home had burned to the ground the week before Christmas. The envelope became the highlight of our Christmas. It was always the last thing opened on Christmas morning, and our children would stand with wide-eyed anticipation as their dad lifted the envelope from the tree to reveal its contents. As the children grew, the envelope never lost its allure. The story doesn't end there. We lost Mike due to cancer. When Christmas rolled around, I was so wrapped up in grief that I barely got the tree up. But on Christmas Eve I placed an envelope on the tree, and in the morning it was joined by three more. Each of our children had placed an envelope on the tree for their dad. The tradition has grown and some- day will expand even further with our grandchildren standing around the tree with wide-eyed anticipation watching as their fathers take down the envelopes. Mike's spirit, like the Christmas spirit, will always be with us. What a heart felt impact Mike’s wife made upon their family. Well, dear friends, Christ Spirit is with us. Let’s put His Spirit back in Christmas. Let’s be Jesus with skin on to a world that desperately needs a witness of the Love of God. Blessings, Jeff Wiedenmeyer

THE ENVELOPE The message of Christmas is wrapped up in couple of verses of scripture con-tained in Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." Also, John 3:16-17 “For God so loved world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not per-ish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to con-demn the world, but to save the world through him.” Wow—what a gracious gift we have received! I love the Christmas season with all that is repre-sents to us. I came across one of “those” Christmas stories that can be found in many collections. Though the author is unknown, it makes us mindful of our purpose during this Christmas season:

It's just a small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no iden-tification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so. It all began because my husband, Mike, hated Christmas—oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it: over-spending, the frantic running around at the last minute, the gifts given in desperation. Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties…. I reached for something special just for Mike. Our son Kevin was wrestling at the junior level at the school he at-tended; shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team sponsored by an inner-city church.

These youngsters, dressed in sneakers so ragged that shoe-strings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast to our boys in their spiffy blue and gold uniforms and sparkling new wrestling shoes. As the match began, I was alarmed to see that the other team was wres-tling without headgear. "They have a lot of poten-tial, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them." That's when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought an assortment of wrestling head-gear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. On Christmas Eve, I placed an envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the bright-est thing about Christmas. Each Christmas, I followed the tradi-tion—one year sending a group of mentally handicapped youngsters to a hockey game, another year giving a check to a pair of elderly brothers whose home had burned to the ground the week before Christmas.

The tradition has grown and some-day will expand even further with our grandchildren standing around the tree with wide-eyed anticipation watching as their fathers take down the envelopes.

Breach Youth Church

Pursuing the moments,

Kenneth Curtis

When: New Years Eve-Dec. 31,7pm-7am Jan 1, 2013

What: Lock-in with food, games, tournaments,

prizes, and movies.

Where: Slater Center

Cost: $10.00 per student

Students need to get a ride from parents or the church people mover! No exceptions!

Time for a lock-in!. The students have begged, begged and begged some more. So, I figured, if we are doing this we are going all out! We are going to be there from one year into the next! It is going to be a fun night of games, food and movies. Students can come together, hang out and ring in the new year together! We are not allowing students to drive themselves because they will be tired in the morning and I want all our stu-dents to be safe going home in the morning. Parents may bring their student(s) or they can get a ride from the people mover.

November was an exciting month for Breach Youth ministries. We got together on Fri. Nov. 16 and had fun with the “Bigger or Better Bowling Bash.” The scaven-ger hunt turned out computer monitors, a vacuum, a bi-cycle and even some water skis. The students were even more excited about the debut of the very first Breach Worship Band! The students had been talking about and wanting to pursue a worship band for about a year. Well this month they took the stage for the first time and did a fantastic job! God also moved through our students as they went door to door during the “Treat-no-Tricking” event praying for the people of Jamestown.

The students will be hitting another landmark as they will be taking the stage on Sun. Dec. 9 at 6 pm for our first Christmas program. Students have been preparing for this since the beginning of October and we are get-ting excited as the performance date gets closer. So bring your family and friends and come learn what “The Christmas Heart” is all about! There will be treats in fellowship hall following the program.
