EMMER GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL
‘The EGsPress ‘- CHRISTMAS 2013
Annual Parent Questionnaire
You should have received one Parent Questionnaire for each child
you have in the school. Thank you so much for taking the time to
complete the form and return it, we are very interested in the
responses and the information is vital to us to learn about parent
perception, what we are doing well and areas that we should look
at improving. It’s not too late to hand the questionnaires back,
the deadline is 4th December and we will analyse the results
ready for Term 3.
Madejski Stadium Visit
On Thursday 28th November Sandy took 5 children from Years 5
and 6 to Madejski Stadium. The trip was organised by Chartwells
as a treat for those who have shown aptitude and enthusiasm for
cookery along with good manners and diligence when preparing
food. Bethan, Alfie, Albert, Holly and Finn were shown how
nutritious smoothies are made for the football players. They
were then given a tour of the stadium and tried out the seats in
the dugout.

Please help us to make sure that children stay safe by letting us know well in advance if you are going to be late picking up - even just by a few minutes, or if someone else is picking up your child. We are happy to send a message to your child to remind them and to the teacher to inform them. Please also help us by re-enforcing the message that we regularly pass on in assembly that if children cannot find their parent/carer at 3pm that they should return to the school office where there are always adults who will help out.

Emmer Green
Primary This Christmas we would like to pay
tribute to the group of people who
work throughout the year coming up
with fundraising ideas, making them
reality, pulling off some major events
and countless smaller ones. .
We are so lucky to have such a
dedicated PTFA who work entirely
voluntarily, without complaint and
with cracking results.
These pictures from the Saturday’s
Christmas Fayre capture the spirit
and essence of the PTFA’s objective -
a jolly experience for all attending
alongside the raising of much needed
funds for the school.

School PTFA We would like to thank every person
involved in the planning, co-ordinating and
helping with the Fayre and all other
events this year. We would love to
mention names but this would involve
another double page spread!
Thank You PTFA for
all the material
items and
experiences you
have given the
children.
Here’s to a well earned Christmas break
and another great year of fun and
fundraising!

Years 3 & 4 Hampton Court Trip
This term the lower juniors
have been studying The
Tudors. To consolidate all
the learning they have done
in a most memorable way,
three coach loads of
children and teachers set
off for a day at Hampton
Court. The children took
part in workshops and got
hands on experience of life
in Tudor times.
Maths Week
What do you get when you cross “Maths Week” with “The Circus”? This
question was well and truly answered 2 weeks ago when our annual week
of focusing on maths took place. The Circus theme meant that angles,
calculations, symmetry and plotting (amongst many other techniques)
were used to make circus models, devise magic tricks and create
effects. We will never forget the thrills and spills - who thought Maths
would be such fun?!
Children In Need
This year we all wore pyjamas or onesies to school and we raised money
for Children In Need in the process. We are delighted to report that
we collected £859.58 in total. In addition to our own efforts, Holly,
Amber and Rebecca made their own collection of £150 by keeping
silent ALL MORNING! And some very athletic Year 3 boys - Finley,
Aaron, Edward, Leon, Joey and Joseph - ran a sponsored 3 laps of the
school field and raised a further £156. Well done!
Christmas Party Lunch Day – Friday 20th December
Friday 20th December is the last day of this term and we will be
following our tradition of wearing non-uniform and having a whole
school Christmas party lunch in the hall. All children need to bring in a
packed lunch (no school dinners), we lay out rows of tables and have
crackers, hats and Christmas music. Staff, Governors and children all
eat together and celebrate the end of a very busy term and the start
of the Christmas holiday.
Victorian Day The Upper Juniors came
dressed as Victorians last
Wednesday. They experienced
a Victorian school day and for
most it was a relief to get
back to the Year 2013! There
was a dunce cap to be worn if
you didn’t meet the Victorian
teacher’s high standards (they
were so strict!). The teachers
had canes! There was horrible
gruel in the morning but luckily
lovely mince pies later when
the parents came in to see the
children in all their finery or
rags. As always we were
overwhelmed by the costumes
- there really was everything
from rags to riches.
