Cricket DEC 3rd: With a close defeat at the hands of NewVic Sixth Form College, Bsix had to come to a new strategy for winning their next match up against Newham Sixth Form College. They were unknown opponents and bsix had two new players in the team, Bradley Prospere and Wafiullah Hikmat. This was by far a stronger fielding team than that which had entered the tournament a month earlier. Sll with a lile rust, they managed to get themselves in prime posions for what was to be a worthy bang team. Bsix bowlers Wafiullah, Raqib and Hussain managed to come with a variety of bowls which had the baers bamboozled. There was a swiſt LBW on the first batsman and then the second shot the ball straight up into the ceiling of the sports hall which meant that it was an instant out. The final four were not so easy, and managed to drag the game out the full 10 overs with 2 players leſt to go. Now the changeover brought the opportunity for Bsix to claw back some points, but to the dismay of the team, things were sll not up to par on the bang, with that Bradley got ran out on the first run of opening batsman Mukhar, unfortunately the same fate befell Mukhar only moments later. Two batsmen down out of the six and these were to be Bsix’s top scorers. Next up Hasib who had a beer innings than expected, as a player more in tune with fielding he had not pracced much bang but nevertheless scored the most runs. DEC 3rd

It was time for Bsix to face Barking and Dagenham College. With Bsix full of confidence after beating Newham 7-0

last week, Bsix started bright and should have been at least 3 goals up within 20 minutes with Huseyin, Amin and Kelce

missing great opportunities.

After being on the back foot for the start Barking and Dagenham had one chance and put it away smartly and

that gave them the confidence and played really well and scored again just before half time to take a 2-0 lead into half

time.

So after a long team talk about where we was losing the battle on the pitch we started the second half how we

started the first and scored straight away with Huseyin setting up Kelce who’s left foot strike just about made it over

the line. So with the score being 2-1 and Bsix trying to get back into the game Barking and Dagenham counter attacked

and made it 3-1. But Bsix being Bsix and the never give up attitude Bsix scored with 10 minutes remaining when

Charlie’s square ball was finished by Huseyin.

So with the score 3-2 Huseyin had a great chance to make it 3-3 but was unable to get the contact on the ball

that was required, Amin overhead kick was heading for the bottom corner but a great save from their keeper kept the

scores 3-2 until 89 minutes when a mistake by Jordan was punished by their striker and with Bsix losing 4-2 Sam pinto

done great work on the right wing to cross it to Huseyin to make the score 4-3 but with one minute remaining Barking

managed to see out the game.

Basketball 12th Dec—Double Whammy:

Females: The 12th December saw the very first full female squad in basketball. Slowly growing

from the beginning of November, many of the team had never played basketball before or

hadn’t done for some years. They had been hungry for a game since playing in a 3v3

tournament late October.

It had been agreed, the team were to play Tower Hamlets in a friendly, Tower hamlets

arrived in amped spirits, with a much taller and bigger team on average. As both teams

prepared to start, the nerves were quite apparent, yet Bsix were confident. The referee took

his spot and prepared for the jump ball. Theresa Larbi took position as the ball was thrown up.

I t was an easy first possession for Bsix. The game was underway, excellent point played by

Geneva, bringing up the ball and setting the team plays that they’d practiced many times

before.

Playing a 2, 3 Zone formation it was a formidable defence and the Tower hamlets team

had obviously not practiced how to break down this strategy. The game went on back and

forth with our most aggressive and smallest player Zhaleh, making a move for each and every

lost ball. Bsix maintained a solid defence throughout, with Kat standing tall in the centre and

support from Sarah and Zhaleh but were unable to stop the shooting power of the Tower

Hamlets team. Tower Hamlets took a lead which grew rapidly throughout the match.

It became a passionate emotional rollercoaster of anger, joy, stress, disappointment and

pride as both teams fought till the bitter end. Geneva working hard as point guard, Angela

driving hard through the defence of Tower Hamlets – with a few ankle breakers and Theresa

taking big shots yet not finding the sweet spot of the bucket, Annette made some daring

drives towards the hole but was thwarted by some of the beastly members of the Tower

Hamlets team. The frustrations were building. The whole Bsix team battled until the final

whistle which saw a loss of 23 – 2 for Bsix. Nevertheless, the spirits of the team were high as

they gave it their all, their training had shown and the team bond was prominent as ever.

This game had shown the team clear strengths and weaknesses, now all know what to work on, the Bsix Amazons will be back! Bigger! Better! Braver!

Zhaleh Bahraimi, Angela, Geneva Bahsoom, Sarah Sadiq, Kat , Theresa Larbi and Annette Asiimwe

Males: Straight after the Females came the Males, and after witnessing the horrid defeat of their comrades, the males sprang into action to avenge the

fallen, yet not forgotten heroes. Tower Hamlets had been faced a year ago in another friendly, which was closely contested, so they had all to play for and

Bsix had to uphold the win that they’d achieved previously. Everyone’s blood red hot, the game started and from the jump ball, Bsix scored an early bucket,

the game played out in a ferocious back and forth that saw Bsix snatch an early lead. Tower Hamlets were clearly out matched on this occasion, unlike the

year before. Bsix had some new editions to the team for this special event. Volleyball’s Kamil Nowak came to play his first game, with a surprising and

unexpected return from Jamal Maalim who had clearly not lost his touch on the ball. Many of the usual faces could be seen on the court and as they had not

played a game in some weeks, they were out to destroy. The Bsix team tore into Tower Hamlets like a pack of rampaging wolves on a single sheep. There was

no let up for the entire game and Bsix took a large and uncatchable lead. With Aliunho attempting some NBA styled dunks. The comfortable lead had those

not usually stepping out of their comfort zone on

the court were pulling off moves they’d ony done in

practice. Dariusz Janik was on fire playing a highly

aggressive game. As the game began to wind down,

the coach allowed for everyone to get extra

minutes on the court as the win was a sure thing.

Despite Bsix being a far superior team, they

showed great sportsmanship and without gloating

praised their opponents and gave them the respect

deserved as they fought till the bitter end. Final

score 62 – 28 to Bsix.

Amazons Team: Geneva Gahsoon, Zhaleh Bahraini, Angela Nwandu, Theresa Larbi, Sarah Sadiq, Kat Brissett and Annette Asiime

Basketball Team: Dariusz Janik, Mohamed Hamlat, Mohamed Ali, John Canceran, Dainius Rauba, Aliunhao Fernadez, Kamil Nowak, Jamal Maalim, Chan Thiep and Leonidas Kousta

Jack Petchey Award—Trip and Celebration

DEC 28th: This trip was chosen by Jewel Ahamed after winning the Jack Petchey award

back in November. Jewel was nominated for the Jack Petchey award back in November by his

peers for outstanding attendance, work ethic and punctuality within his class. Making vast

improvements session to session.

A professional basketball game played by London’s very own representatives, the London

Lions. The first game after Christmas and it was definitely a sluggish affair. Many of the students

who’d attended this game had not seen a live basketball game before and so it was an eye

opener, particularly for those who play either for the college team or just recreationally. There

was another Jack Petchey event in December which saw the September Winner Geneva Bahsoon

putting together a thank you and celebration to the Bsix Amazons female team and sports

ambassadors for all the hard work that they had done across the term.

Taekwondo

Instructor David Licorish is still building up a strong team of taekwondo practioners,

each and every Thursday 4:30pm in the sports hall. For those of you interested in martial

arts, this is a great one for improving your kicking, stability, footwork, and agility. It is

Korean based and has a long history and connection with the Korean police force. If

competition is something you love, but do not want the same level of aggressiveness and

physical contact as Muay Thai, then this is fantastic, hone your techniques, learn new skills

and expand your arsenal. This is a mixed session, so all are welcome.

Taekwondo is an Olympic sport which is a pathway that any student is able to undertake

with focused training.

Tai Chi Mornings

December saw the first tasters of Tai Chi mornings, open to all

including staff, it is a refreshing and energising way to start the day.

Centering on your inner energies, you learn to improve your breathing,

strengthen your core and as a bonus learn a self defence. All this with UK

Tai Chi pushing hands Champion Sifu Michael Jacques. You can get involved

in the canteen 8am—8:45am every Tuesday and Friday.
