• We wrapped up our spring storytimes and began getting ready for summer, including confirming with the Streamwood PD DARE officers that they would come out to do their PreK DARE program with our storytime kids.

• The posters and flyers advertising van service were delivered, as were copies of the summer reading promotional video. The video was a huge success, as was noted when our ladies visited to promote van service and summer reading. Many kids commented on seeing the video, in particular seeing Super Librarian. Thanks again to Jennifer Kaap for writing an awesome script and for everyone else who helped out!

• It was a 2019 goal to improve the Polish language collection, and our first Polish books started to roll in at the end of the month. Our first order was mostly the Harry Potter titles. Our goal is to have 100 new Polish titles by the end of the year.

• In other foreign language collection news, out Spanish language collection has increased by over 700 titles since last year.

Popular Materials Outreach Report—Blanca Stephens Market at the Metra, May 18 Market @ the Metra was a successful neighborhood event among residents from Hanover Park and the surrounding areas. We started the day with plenty of sunshine, which brought in a lot of people. The weather however, changed drastically later on during the day and the decision was made to close the event early, around 2:30 PM due to rain and thunder. Over 150 people visited our outreach table. We gave away pens, candy, and children’s calendars for the months of May and June as well as information about how to obtain a library card. Mayor Craig, as always, was very grateful to the library for participating and supporting the community event. As a reference note, this year Village Clerk Eira Corral decided to have the Market @ the Metra event only during the spring, so no fall event will follow since September has proved to be too busy of a month in the community.

• Three round tables and four chairs were added to the children’s area, and two square tables were

moved to the adult area to accommodate the growing number of patrons who spend and increasing amount of time in the library.

• On May 18th Barb S., Steven Z., and several TAB members volunteered their time to participate in the Streamwood Park District’s Park Pride Day. The focus was Ralphs Woods and tasks included planting flowing, pulling weeds, and clearing litter from the park and the library’s parking lot.
