(Thank you email sent to Kevin Roehl from Ed Galfsky of Carnival Memphis)

Thank you again for the great honor of receiving a Crystal Award. I hope you and everyone with the AFP know how much we appreciate this recognition as well as your hard work to put on a great event. Having been in charge of dozens of luncheons over the past few years, my hat is off to you and the rest of the volunteers who made the event a success. We enjoyed it greatly and are very humbled by this honor. Thanks again, Ed

20 Questions with Chris ChastainEach newsletter we like to get to know one of our members a little bet-ter through a series of 20 questions. This month, Chris Chastain shares a few details on both a personal and professional level.

1. Full name (people know you as)? Chris Chastain 2. Date & place of birth? September 1974 - Little Rock, AR 3. How long have you lived in the area? I moved to Memphis in the summer of 1992, so a little over 17 years.4. Occupation? I raise money for the Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation in West Memphis, AR.5. Who was your most influential role model? By far, my father who taught me to be consistent in all aspects of my life.6. Favorite place to go, favorite trip, hike, etc.? Most anywhere it is warm, my girls are around and the sand meets the ocean...7. Favorite local business? Mango Street Baby in Saddle Creek 8. Favorite food? Dessert - chocolate and cheesecake run a very tight race.9. Favorite book? Collected Stories of Tennessee Williams 10. Favorite movie? Ferris Bueller’s Day Off 11. What do you waste your money on? Fountain Pens 12. What is the craziest & most adventurous thing you have done? Let’s leave out the craziest thing I have ever done... The most adventurous thing I have ever done was to sign up to compete in an Ironman race!13. What is your fondest memory? My fondest memory is getting to hold both my newborn baby girls.14. If you could change one thing about Memphis what would it be? I think it is happening right now, but more transparency in city government. 15. What do you think makes Memphis a good place to live? There are so many great things it is hard topick one!16. Tell me about one hidden Memphis treasure others should know about? Definitely “Deli Mexicana” on Germantown Parkway! If you haven’t been there, it will change your life - I promise.17. What do you do to de-stress? For a long time it has been running or riding my bike but now that I have kids, I usually try and take them to the park or to a playground to watch them play and interact with other kids. It is amazing what they learn just by running around and playing with other people that they don’t know!18. If you were to try any other profession for one day, what would it be? Just for one day? I would like to be one of the umbrella/chair rental guys in Orange Beach.19. What is one fundraising best practice you can share with AFP membership? When it comes to our mission or message, I think fundraisers rely on the internet and marketing pieces too much. We expect people to know what we do because we have a website and sent out a brochure. When pressed, many don’t have a message that is clear and concise that we can share at a moment’s notice. Many times, we only have two minutes in a buffet line to tell a potential donor why we raise money. I think having a great “elevator pitch” (and a business card!) can be a powerful tool!20. Complete this sentence: Chris is always counting his blessings
