Sacred Heart Pastoral Council Meeting minutes of October 13, 2015
1. Gathering and Welcome: Jeanette welcomed
everyone to the meeting. Fr. Joseph, Jeanette Steinbach, Eva Manderson, Patrick Matthews, Enrique Orozoco, Joe Solis, Nicolosa Mendez, Gloria Lyons, Sandy Pervin, Chris Rose and Laurice Meyers
2. Opening prayer: Fr . Joseph led us in prayer . 2a. Unscheduled: Jeanette introduced Chr is Rose. Chris is the part of the Archdiocesan PAC representing the North Coast and Columbia vicari-ate. He is here to observe since there he has not been to a meeting in a while. All present introduced themselves. (Emailed received from Chris 10/16: I did enjoy attending your meeting as it reminded me of the first 20 years I served on the council in Astoria, much like your church in terms of interest and activities going on. Seaside is smaller and very different because of the tourist we serve (70% of Mass attendance) and mostly retired people locally. Lots of changes in how the council works in the last 28 years since we moved here. We don’t meet every month anymore, never in the Summer, and our meetings are very laid back – no reports from staff, committees, or other councils. We try to stay focused on our Pastoral Plan, if it is working, are we being realis-tic ? Everybody has ideas of things to do or change, but, the bottom line is, WWJD (what would Jesus do)? That requires our time to pray and listen, probably the most difficult part of serving on the council. We don’t want to give our pastor bad advice.Thank you for your service to the Church,Chris
The Hispanic Charismatic Prayer Group would like to welcome the parishioners. To participate in Las Posadas. . The first *posada Las Posadas, ( Spanish: “ The Inns”) religious festi-val celebrated in Mexico between December 16 and 24. Las Posadas commemorates the journey that Jo-seph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem is search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesuswill be Wednesday 16,2015 in Gym @ 7pm

3. Fr. Joseph’s update: Fr . Joseph thanked Eva & Rachael, Patr ick and Joe for coordinating the R.E. programs. This is a great blessing to our Parish. Fr. has been advertising for a Bilingual (Spanish) Secre-tary, and has received applications. The R.E. Coordinator position will be advertised after a committee is formed to receive input from Parents/Cathechists/Students on what is needed for this program. The hope is with all the input to start advertising in January 2016. Fr. Joseph thanked all the volunteers for helping our in the office. Fr. mentioned that a new phone system is being looked into because the present system needs updating. The recommendation from PAC was that it is important to look into how it will effect the web-site and email addresses. If it saves the Parish money without forfeiting the services provided to Parishion-ers, PAC supports it.
4. Religious Education Program: Eva Manderson – Children’s R.E. R.E. program going well. Each week, it is organized better . Glor ia Lyons complimented Rachael/Eva on the program. It is very organized and helps the teacher be prepared. Eva would like to have a dinner for the Cathechists which Fr. supported. Fr. Joseph will also bless the ca-thechists periodically at Mass. There are about 100+ children registered. Patrick Matthews – R.C.I.A. He has three people in this program. It star ted October 8. Patr ick asked for help from Fr. for the scrutinies. He has a team of parishioners that will help him. Joe Solis – Confirmation Tracy and Joe are coordinating this program. They had 16 children when the program started October 11. 15 are getting confirmed. Need to make sure sponsors are available. Food is provided and being rotated by students and the Solis’. They are offering the Reason series which they both like. He is in need of a wall chart or an easel with a pad. Jeanette to check. Suggestion was made that parish-ioners can pray for the children using popsicles that the children decorated. This could also be done for the cathechists. Joe would like to offer this to the High Schoolers too which Fr. and members supported. The Solis’ would also like to start a library if anyone has any books that would appeal to the students. Hispanic Ministry: Enrique suggested moving the R.E. sign so it is more visible. Fr . asked him to talk to Paul Wostel. Catechetical Sunday is coming up and Enrique would like to send some of the cathechists to this conference. Fr. Joseph said that it was okay as long as the cathechists paid half the cost as was offered in the past. Liturgy & Worship Jeanette r ead a repor t from Suzanne. The fair was very successful. Not doing tur -key dinner instead it will be a BBQ beef dinner the 2nd weekend in November. Traditional blessing bread on Thanksgiving. Patrick mentioned that on Saturday there was a Rosary Rally to pray for the Bishop Synod on families. This was also done by 14,000 other parishes. This was coordinated by Anita Bender. Fr. Joseph suggested do bilingual prayers too. Patrick thanked Fr. Joseph for exposing the Blessed Sacrament. Eva would like a schedule from Thanksgiving to New Year for the Altar Servers, Jeanette to check with Suzanne. 5. Old Business: Picnic, Sept 13, 2015 Picnic was a success. There was a lot of food, bingo, games in the lawn and fellowship. It was suggested that we have more people volunteer next time. New Members: Tiffany resigned, Fr . is appointing Eva to the FAC. J eanette invited Glor ia and Stepha-nie Butcher to the meeting. Stephanie was unable to attend. Fr. Joseph would like to talk with all the poten-tial members. Vocations Ministry: This ministry star ted October 4, 2015. There is a sign up sheet at the vestibule for the 3 Masses. Bags with the crosses and prayers are provided. Each parishioner is called to receive the bag before Mass ends. Social Justice Ministry (7 Tenets/TEC/KofC): Jeanette mentioned the Warming Center that would be opening up when it was cold. Helping Hands will open in December. Contact was made with the County Jail to see if they would like a visit from Fr. TEC met Oct 6. The main discussion was Christmas baskets. SHP usually does 30. The Fire Dept. will not be providing toys this year. TEC served 56 families with about $2000. Issue is that TEC runs out of money. Suggestion was made that SHP does one dinner or breakfast to support the efforts of the other Churches in TEC that provide dinner on Monday, Tues, Wed and Thursday. 6. New Business: Latin Mass Fr . Gabr iel has been given permission to say Latin Mass the 1st Saturday of each month. Fr. Joseph said that he is okay with it if there is a group who will take charge of coordinating this. They would have to promote it. Discussion on what to do when there is a wedding or a funeral. 7. Goals: Pastoral Plan renewal: Jeanette asked for Chr is’s opinion. He suggested looking at the current visioning document and edit it. PAC guidelines: He will send examples of other Parishes. 8. Prayer and Adjourn: Fr . thanked everyone for their advice and input. He closed with a prayer .
